GRADE 7/8 ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS TEACHER
Ms. Rafferty started her teaching career here at McCloskey Middle School three
years ago. Her inspiration comes from her old Middle School English teachers:
Mrs. Halacy and Mr. Borden. She believes that there is no greater feeling than
when something clicks in a student’s mind. When a student hits a hard obstacle,
Ms. Rafferty lets them talk their way through and come to their own conclusions
before she gives them the answer. By the end of the year, she wants her
students to be prepared for high school and have a mature understanding of
why an education is important. If Ms. Rafferty was not a teacher, she would be a
television host. Outside of school, she loves to run track and go shopping. In
college, Ms. Rafferty went to the nationals for track and won ninth place.
She also hates watermelon.

This is a survey I have been working on for the past few weeks. I asked
students and staff their favorite type of pie. In first place with 27.33% is Apple
Pie. In second place with 26.40% is Banana Pie. In third place with 19.88% is
Boston Cream Pie. In fourth place with 17.08% is Blueberry Pie. In fifth place
with 8.07% is Pumpkin Pie. Now, last and certainly not least, is Lemon Pie
with a very small 1.24%. Thank you to everyone who participated, and I will

Death Of Music Legends

So in the past few months we have all heard terrible news about
all these “original” music artists passing away one after
another.
It is a very sad time in the music world and in the world in
general.
After hearing about Prince’s (Prince Roger Nelson) death, I began to wonder in
random thoughts as to what the music world is going to be like when I am an
adult. Would people remember the greats, the way the world of music was created?
Would my own children get to know who was who and the impact these greats
really had on the world? People speak and remember big events and names for
things like civil rights, the endless wars, but few remember the Music.
Game Review:
Garageband
Although this is only a program, the
Garageband music creation
program is a great program for
novice to pro music creators. The
program has a lot of features, from
right down to changing on note’s
bass and pitch to a HUGE selection
of instruments. To compose a song,
you can simply select your prefered
instrument and hit record. You can
either use your keyboard keys to
create different pitches or click on
the keyboard on your screen, and
don't worry about mistakes, there
is always the redo option. Don't fret
if you don't want to compose on
your own, there are templates, and
apple has given you the advantage
of creating pre made loops, aka
apple loops or apple tracks. When
you're done, you can even share
your compositions with friends or
even to itunes! Garageband is a
great program for starters to
experts, and you can really get in
depth in the program to create
amazing songs.
It was the music of a bunch of greats from classical composers like Beethoven to
Sinatra, the Beatles, Hendrix, Bowie, and Prince. The list is endless. It was to
music that wars were won, to music we walked our protests to change laws, to
music that creates today’s lives.
Prince and Bowie were pioneers in the musical world. Just like all others, but they
stood for more than just music. Prince’s music touched on cultural equality paving
the way for future generations.
I think we should all take some time and remember some of these greats and keep
their legacies going in our future generations. Our great states and lawmakers
should stop short-changing public schools of government funding for school arts
/music programs and instead maybe turn the clock back to give us classes that
teach us trades so when we do graduate we become adults who have a clue of basic
life skills. Maybe they should cut sports instead like football or cheerleading which
have no relevance in life unless you plan to be professional or a teacher. There is a
very low rate of a graduating class vs if we had left the art/ music programs
alone--at least 30-40% would be either a musician, artist, teacher, or dancer. So it
makes more sense that we young minds keep the music flowing we are more
productive when we can hear the music​.

Geologic Time Scale

The Geologic Time Scale is a
chronological measurement that
holds all the events that happened
from 4.6 billion years ago to present
2016.
Earth began at 4.6 billion years ago.
It began as the Pre­Cambrian time.
During that time the first organisms
such as jellyfish,algae,and bacteria
came in. After the extinction event
came the Paleozoic Era.
The periods were:
­The Cambrian Period when more
invertebrates came in.
­The Ordovician Period was when
the first fish came in. Those were fish
without teeth.
­The Silurian Period was when fish
with teeth came in. The first land
insects came in.
­The Devonian Period was when
sharks and bony fish were common.
Lungfish came in. The first
amphibians came in.
­The Carboniferous Period, the first
reptiles came in. Winged insects
evolved.
­The Permian Period had reptiles that
were warm­blooded. At the end,
many animals were extinct.
­The Triassic Period had the first
mammals and DINOSAURS! But
they were not as dangerous. There
was a supercontinent called Pangea.
­The Jurassic Period had the big
dinosaurs. Dinosaurs like Allosaurus
and Stegosaurus came. The first
birds came in.
­The Cretaceous Period had
Dinosaurs like the Triceratops and
TYRANNOSAURUS REX!! Then a
massive extinction came in.
­The Paleogene or Tertiary Period
had The first
elephants,rhinos,bears,and other
mammals.
­The Quaternary Period had
mammoths and Saber toothed cats.
Then they were extinct. Then we
came in.

Uxbridge Article

Uxbridge is a town that is located in
southern Massachusetts. It is a quiet
town that is found 36 miles southwest
of Boston and 15 miles
south­southeast of Worcester. It
borders
Douglas,Mendon,Millville,Northbridge
,Sutton,Burrillville Rhode Island,and
North Smithfield, Rhode Island.
Uxbridge has the Blackstone River
and Canal flowing through it, and
people can find the historic Cormier
Woods here as well. If people want
to eat, they can do so at the Burger
Grill and the Depot Cafe.

artist from Newspaper Club will draw
it! It can be anything! The next issue
after this will have one drawing from
the box. So if you want to see your

Game review: Skyrim
Skyrim is a virtual
