van looking after two highly strung full-factory rally riders. Plus, chronic jet<br />

lag and a distinct lack of TV where I was staying meant I managed to miss<br />

almost all the action. In fact I would go as far as to say I was almost as out<br />

of touch with what was going on in the Dakar as if I’d actually been on the<br />

event itself. And if you’ve ever been you will know that that’s very out of<br />

touch indeed…<br />

On the upside, I did manage to get some quality riding in while over in the<br />

Land of the Long White Cloud. And the more I rode the more I started to<br />

think what a perfect place it would be for a Sport Adventure off-road holiday.<br />

Granted you have the aforementioned jet lag to contend with, and it ain’t<br />

cheap to get there, but those small inconveniences aside, there’s no denying<br />

that it is a very big country with a lot of hills in it and not a lot of people. A
