31981 (100th BG) collided with 43-38457<br />

during <strong>com</strong>bat mission Dec 31, 1944<br />

and both aircraft became locked<br />

together. Four crew parachuted out of 38457<br />

and seven from 31981, but pilot and<br />

copilot stayed at controls of 31981 and<br />

managed to crashland the <strong>com</strong>bination in<br />

a German field.<br />

31986 (100th BG, 349th BS) damaged by flak<br />

on raid on Wiesbaden Nov 9, 1944<br />

and crew bailed out over Belgium, one<br />

crew member being killed during<br />

bailout. Plane crashed near Perle,<br />

Belgium. MACR 99933.<br />

31988 (381st BG) crashed and burned on<br />

takeoff Apr 22, 1944 at Polebrook.<br />

31989 (95th BG, 336th BS, *Black Magic*)<br />

diverted to Switzerland Feb 25, 1945<br />

after being severely damaged by flak<br />

and fighters over<br />

southern Germany. Crew bailed out<br />

safely but aircraft flew on<br />

and crashlanded in forest clearing at<br />

southern end of Lake<br />

Baldegger. Plane later dismantled,<br />

parts stored at<br />

Dubendorf and scrapped after the war.<br />

Canteen*) to Kingman, AZ<br />

Feb 26, 1946 and subsequently scrapped.<br />
