CLS MATCH REPORTS 26 COVENTRY BEARS vs. ALL GOLDS CLS REPORT PERFECT START FOR ALL GOLDS COVENTRY BEARS 28 – 34 ALL GOLDS CLS Saturday 2nd April, Xcel Leisure Centre, Coventry WRITTEN BY CHRIS WILSON Three tries from wing Lewis McKissick all engineered by the excellent Brad Kislingbury laid the foundations for a debut win in the competition for the All Golds’ Conference League South side. However, they had to show grit to dig out the win having let a 20-12 interval lead slip. After Rory Sharratt wriggled over the line from close range to open the scoring with the Bears yet to touch the ball, the first half developed very well for Alex Davidson’s men. Though the Bears levelled the scores, McKissick went over twice in four minutes to give the All Golds the advantage. The sides exchanged scores before half time with McKissick completing his treble seven minutes before the break. The Bears resumed the second half with more determination. They patched up their weakness down the right and began to run with more purpose. Tom Tsang scored with a neat chip and chase but Harry Kidd went over to keep the All Golds’ noses in front. Two tries in as many minutes from the Bears turned the game on its head and put them two points in front. Things got heated as both sides conceded penalties for dissent while in possession and it was a miracle that the referee kept his cards in his pocket. The All Golds finished strongly and captain Sharratt forced his way over to put the All Golds back in front and Liam Rice- Wilson’s conversion and late penalty saw them home. ALL GOLDS CLS vs. VALLEY COUGARS REPORT NO HOME COMFORTS ALL GOLDS CLS 28 – 36 VALLEY COUGARS Saturday 9th April, Gordon League RFC, Gloucester WRITTEN BY CHRIS WILSON A young All Golds side made a promising start against the Valley Cougars but were eventually overwhelmed and a brief second half fightback came too late to save them from a disappointing home defeat. As against Coventry, the All Golds built a lead but proceeded to fritter it away. However, unlike against the Bears, they were unable to recover and seal the win as the 2014 champions showed too much power and organisation for the home side. Making their debut at Gordon League, the All Golds took advantage of early rustiness from the Welsh side and posted three good tries to lead 18-4. Jack Uren, with a fine run from dummy half, James Walter after a good offload from Chris True and Dieter Thomas with a solo effort all crossed under the posts to give Liam Rice-Wilson three easy shots at goal. Once the Cougars had found their feet, they ground their way upfield and used their powerful pack to batter their way over the whitewash. With a 22-18 lead at the break and running down the hill, the visitors increased their lead early in the second after Sam Hodge was sin-binned for a professional foul and by the time they had two men in the bin themselves in the last fifteen minutes, the Cougars led 36-18. Late tries from Hodge and Walter came too late to save the game for the home side. NOTTINGHAM OUTLAWS vs. ALL GOLDS CLS PREVIEW CHAMPION OUTLAWS AWAIT ALL GOLDS CHALLENGE WRITTEN BY CHRIS WILSON THIS WEEKEND THE ALL GOLDS’ CONFERENCE LEAGUE SOUTH SIDE FACE THEIR TOUGHEST FIXTURE TO DATE AS THEY TRAVEL TO CHAMPIONS NOTTINGHAM OUTLAWS. The Outlaws lead the table again this season and the task has been made doubly difficult by the fact that they suffered their first league defeat of the campaign last weekend at the hands of London Chargers. The All Golds, too, were defeated last time out and will be looking to make amends with a strong performance this weekend. Head coach Alex Davidson is once more looking forward to the challenge and picks some positives from the 36-28 defeat by the Valley Cougars: “Last time out we required more rugby intelligence in contact and in our play,” he said, adding: “Some more physicality wouldn’t have gone amiss!” “Doing what we do well we caused Valley major problems, demonstrated by the length of the field set finishing with Sam Hodge’s try in the corner.” Hodge leapt to catch Liam Rice-Wilson’s pinpoint kick to the corner and touch down for the score that sparked a late revival, but one which came too late. Meanwhile, having won their two opening games by comfortable margins, the Outlaws came a cropper in the capital going down 26- 16 to the Chargers, but they are not a champion side for nothing and will be looking to bounce back on home turf. “This week will be no different with Nottingham’s physical pack who are well drilled,” Davidson added. “This week I’m looking for improvements from the lads to progress them as players. “Some lads are really standing out currently and hopefully they’ll continue to do so.
