WHO ARE YOU?

CAREERS & APPRENTICESHIPS FAIR
This year we held our Fair on both our East and West site for
our Year 8 students (who will shortly be choosing their options)
and also our Year 11, 12 and 13 students who are thinking
about their next steps. The Fair is aimed to encourage our
students to begin investigating future career options available
to them.
We had a variety of businesses, colleges and universities in
attendance, including Aesica, Tesco, NHS Pharmacy, Brogdale
CIC, Aldi, Swale Skills Centre, Mid Kent College, Kent Training &
Apprenticeships, Swale Borough Council, Canterbury College &
Swale Campus, University of Kent, Canterbury Christ Church
University, the Army, Carillion and McDonalds.
The exhibitors commented on how great our students are and how
nice it was to have such an event for students to be able to
investigate different pathways.
Students were very interested to learn about apprenticeship routes and universities
pathways, collecting prospectuses and information on both. It was lovely to see
students engaging with visitors and asking questions about their future opportunities.
WHO ARE YOU?
The Academy has established a partnership with a company called
‘Humanutopia’ who work with young people to help them overcome
the barriers they face to unlock their full potential. All students in
Years 7—10 will be participating in a series of sessions over the next
few weeks.
Feedback from the sessions so far has been extremely positive. Here
are just a few of the comments relating to four of the five main outcomes
that Humanutopia aim for:
Hope “I felt more motivated”
Confidence “I can speak to more people” “I have confidence to talk to
new people”
Happiness “I felt good that I was brave enough to speak”

Relationships “I made some new friends” “When I got home, I spent
time with my family instead of going to my room”
And for the fifth outcome, Employability, we are now receiving
applications from students to take “The Heroes Journey”, a volunteer
programme designed to help young people develop essential life skills,
break negative cycles and become good role models to younger
students.

Recent research by the Nuffield Foundation has found that pupils who attend after-school clubs
one or two days per week make significantly more progress than predicted.

MONTH
MAY 2016
National Walking Month is a campaign to promote the
benefits of walking and to get everyone walking, whatever
your level of fitness. Walking is simple and free and one
of the easiest ways to be more active, lose weight and
become healthier.

WHAT’S YOUR SPORT?
FIT CLUB
Every Wednesday, 7pm until 8pm
Every evening and weekend there are a
whole host of activities on offer, for all age
groups on both our East and West Campus.
From Archery to Acting School, Boxing to
Badminton there’s something for everyone to
enjoy.

On Target Multisports will be holding a club every Monday in
our East Campus sports hall.
The club is aimed at primary children who are currently in
Reception up to Year 4.
As well as being enjoyable, the club helps development of
fundamental movement and sports skills, taught through
sports such as Football, Basketball, Cricket, Handball and
many more!
