<strong>Udaipur</strong> <strong>is</strong> a famous h<strong>is</strong>torical destination. It <strong>is</strong> known for its h<strong>is</strong>tory, culture and scenic location <strong>of</strong> Rajput<br />

The <strong>city</strong> palace <strong>is</strong> located on <strong>the</strong> east bank <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lake Pichola and several palaces are built in <strong>the</strong><br />

same <strong>co</strong>mplex. It was built over 400 years being <strong>co</strong>nstructed by several kings <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> dynasty <strong>of</strong> S<strong>is</strong>odia<br />

clan.<br />

It <strong>is</strong> built in ostentatious style. It <strong>is</strong> <strong>co</strong>nsidered as a largest <strong>of</strong> its type in Rajasthan, and built on a hilltop<br />

that gives a panoramic view <strong>of</strong> its surroundings, including several h<strong>is</strong>torical monuments such as Lake<br />

Palace, Jag Mandir on ano<strong>the</strong>r <strong>is</strong>land in <strong>the</strong> lake, Jagmandir close to <strong>the</strong> palace, <strong>the</strong> Monsoon Palace on<br />

<strong>the</strong> top <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> overlooking hillock.<br />

All <strong>the</strong> palaces were built over a long period from 1559 onwards, by 79th generation <strong>of</strong> S<strong>is</strong>odia dynasty<br />

or Sun dynasty. The palaces are facing east behind a lovely facade <strong>of</strong> 244 meters length and 30.4 meters<br />

height.

It was served as a refuge to safe haven seekers on two different occasions. It <strong>is</strong> a three storey palace,<br />

including <strong>the</strong>se impressive architecture, Gul Mahal, which was built first as a refuge for Prince Khurram;<br />

<strong>the</strong> elegant facade flanked by four carved statues <strong>of</strong> elephants on ei<strong>the</strong>r side at <strong>the</strong> jetty entry on <strong>the</strong><br />

lake from <strong>the</strong> <strong>city</strong>; <strong>the</strong> Garden Courtyard and <strong>the</strong> Darikhana on its nor<strong>the</strong>rn side; Bara Patharon ka<br />

Mahal (palace <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 12 stones); <strong>the</strong> Zenana Mahal – a sou<strong>the</strong>rn extension to <strong>the</strong> Gul Mahal; and <strong>the</strong><br />

Kunwar Pada ka Mahal.<br />

On <strong>the</strong> top <strong>of</strong> Moti Magari or Pearl Hill which overlooked at <strong>the</strong> Fateh Sagar Lake in <strong>the</strong> <strong>city</strong>, has a<br />

memorial statue <strong>of</strong> Maharana Pratap, a Rajput hero <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> S<strong>is</strong>odia dynasty, which has a bronze statue <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Maharana astride with h<strong>is</strong> favourite horse Chetak.<br />

The Jagd<strong>is</strong>h Temple was built in 1651, <strong>is</strong> a large Hindu temple in <strong>the</strong> middle <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>city</strong>. It was<br />

originally <strong>called</strong> Jagganath Rai. It <strong>is</strong> a major monument in <strong>the</strong> <strong>city</strong>, it attaches two storey mandapa, to<br />

a double storey saandhara sanctum. The mandapa has ano<strong>the</strong>r storey tucked within its pyramidal<br />

samavarna (bellro<strong>of</strong>) while <strong>the</strong> hollow clustered spire over <strong>the</strong> sanctum <strong>co</strong>ntains two more, non<br />

functional stories.<br />

The Sahelion ki Bari lies in <strong>the</strong> nor<strong>the</strong>rn part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>city</strong>, and foutain and kiosks, a lotus pool and<br />

marble elephants. It was built by Rana Sangram Singh. It laid to fourty eight woman attendants who<br />

ac<strong>co</strong>mpanied a princess <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>city</strong> as a part <strong>of</strong> her dowry. The gardens are set below <strong>the</strong><br />

embankment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fateh Sagar Lake have beautiful lotus pools, marble pavilions and elephant- shaped<br />

fountains.

Lake Palace was built by Maharana Jagat Singh II(1743 – 1746), <strong>the</strong>refore it was intially known as<br />
