Bill Murray Thurmont Police Officers Receive Promotions On July 1, two Thurmont Police Officers were promoted to the rank of Corporal. OFC Mark Debord and OFC Bill Murray competed in the promotional process and were approved for promotion by the Board of Commissioners. Both officers are five-year veterans. Cpl. Debord is DRE certified and throughout his career he attended DUI College and Gang Awareness training. Cpl. Debord received Officer of the Year in 2008 and serves the agency as a technical support person for in-house computers and In-Car Camera systems. Cpl. Murray has attended Basic Death Investigation training sponsored by the FBI and Gang Awareness training. Cpl. Father and Son Announce International Product VoicePlex, a company started by father and son Daniel and Robert Kosek of Thurmont, has just announced Traveler, a VoIP telephone service that allows for an affordable voice-quality international communication connection through a smartphone or computer. Dan brings 34 years of tele/ data communications experience to VoicePlex while Robert contributes 10 years web programming. They had been looking to start a family business when Dan’s job in sales and marketing closed in January. They’ve started their company by working with a focus on supporting Apple’s products because, Dan says, “They haven’t been well supported this way.” The client App (application) software is currently available for the iPhone , iTouch and iPad. Traveler also works with PC/MAC softphones like Xlite and SIP desk phones. The Traveler application was added to the Apple iTunes Appstore on July 28. Traveler will become available as an Android App within six months. Traveler is ideal for the mobile international traveler as a costsavings alternative to expensive international cellular calling. Chapin Gray Grill Opens The name Chapin Gray was derived from the family names of Gray and Chapin in lineage to the proprietors of Chapin Gray Grill, brothers - Josh and Jason Lawler. The Lawlers along with their parents, Don and Maureen (Reenie Gray) Lawler, add this venture which is the third generation of restaurant legacy in their family. Reenie’s mother and father, Karl and Ruth Gray, started the Hill Top Inn in Blue Ridge Summit in 1968 and ran that business until it was sold in 1981. Don and Reenie ran Summit Plaza from 1986-2005. On June 22, Josh and Jason opened the Grill which is located at 1665D Waynesboro Pike in Fairfield, half way between Jack’s Mountain Road and the Rt. 116 turn off towards Fairfield. Both Josh and Jason grew up helping at the Summit Plaza from a young age. Josh has worked at other restaurants including the Kountry Kitchen in Thurmont.
