SMALL BOATS FOR RESCUE
Detective Dave Norman, NYPD Emergency Service Unit
This seminar will provide an overview of small crafts that are typically
used by fire, police, and rescue units. It will include a classroom lecture
and interactive training covering the practicality of certain boats, their
design, and problems associated with each type. Towing, launching,
equipment, and maintenance for daily operation will also be reviewed.
No prior training is required. This seminar is for all personnel involved
in the rescue process.
YOU MUST KNOW HOW TO SEARCH
Sr. Chief Andrew Merchel & Petty Officer John Lowell,
United States Coast Guard, Station Jones Beach
The Coast Guard has several different types of search patterns utilized
depending on the situation at hand. In this seminar, Coast Guard personnel
will review some of the most common search patterns used.
IF IT CAN HAPPEN TO US,
IT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU
Sr. Chief Andrew Merchel & Petty Officer John Lowell,
United States Coast Guard, Station Jones Beach
In this seminar, Coast Guard personnel will discuss the events of February
25, 2016, that resulted in a 25-foot Coast Guard safe boat overturning
in the East Rockaway Inlet with five crewmembers on board.
The instructors will explain how training and the use of proper personal
protective equipment were the significant reasons why no Coast Guard
members sustained serious injuries during this incident.
WHAT WE CAN DO FOR YOU AND
WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR US
Sr. Chief Andrew Merchel & Petty Officer John Lowell,
United States Coast Guard, Station Jones Beach
Coast Guard personnel will discuss the assets they have available to
assist local first responders and explain what they are looking for from
local fire/rescue service providers during this seminar.
THESE ARE NOT YOUR NORMAL EMS CALLS
Dr. Jonathan Eckstein, St. John’s Episcopal Hospital
Water rescue calls can be challenging to both rescue crews and EMS
personnel. EMS can be faced with limited access and sometimes delayed
access to the patient. In this seminar, the instructor will review
drowning, diving emergencies, hypothermia, and traumatic injuries
that crews might be faced with when it comes to a water rescue. He
will discuss the importance of quickly identifying the patient’s issues
and the need to provide aggressive patient care.
