Spring and Summertime for<br />

South Downs Leisure!<br />

So what’s new?<br />

After a wet and windy Winter, SDL welcomes<br />

the new season with plenty on offer to keep<br />

you active!<br />

Due to popular demand, we’ve added<br />

additional Pilates and Yoga classes, as well<br />

as ‘Rave Aerobics’; a rave music inspired,<br />

intense and fun dance class, complete with<br />

glow sticks and whistles! We’ve also added<br />

new classes to the schedule, such as Box to<br />

the Beat, adult non-contact Boxing, Freestyle<br />

Fitness Yoga, HIT Spin and more.<br />

In addition to our regular timetable, we<br />

are proud to deliver a range of wellbeing<br />

initiatives made possible only through your<br />

support. These include our Exercise Referral<br />

Programme, Disability Sport Sessions and<br />

partnership with other local charities. For<br />

Forthcoming Events<br />

We have many exciting events to look forward<br />

to. Field Place Manor House welcomes the<br />

outdoor theatre production of the Emily Bronte<br />

classic, ‘Wuthering Heights’(August 24th).<br />

We will also be hosting a Wimbledon style<br />

Tennis Tournament and BBQ on 24th June.<br />

Additionally, we are also tying in with Euro 2016<br />

throughout June and the Rio Olympic Games<br />

in August where we will be organising a variety<br />

of different sports events and tournaments.<br />

FIT4 membership is an allinclusive<br />

fitness package, spread<br />

across FIVE leisure sites; consisting<br />

of four well-equipped gyms, swimming<br />

pools/spa facilities, over 370 fitness classes along with a variety<br />

of racquet sports and other activities (waiting lists and time<br />

restrictions may apply for some activities, visit our website for<br />

full details).<br />

Centre Membership<br />

Non-FIT4<br />

Centre Membership is a great option for those more<br />

infrequent users of our facilities or for those that are<br />

affiliated with one particular sports related activity. For<br />

example, if you are only interested in playing Badminton<br />

or swimming and can only attend once a week, Centre<br />

Membership would be your cheapest option.<br />

When becoming a Centre Member, you pay a one-off<br />

fee each year and then receive a reduced member’s<br />

rate on activities. Centre Membership also means that<br />

you get early booking priority with the ability to book<br />

up to 7 days in advance.<br />

Annual Centre Membership Prices:<br />

Adult Member - £31<br />

Juniors/Over 60’s - £20.50<br />

Family (2 adults and 2 juniors) - £65<br />

Non-Members<br />

Where space is available, non-members are welcome to use our facilities on a pay per session<br />

basis. For customers using our gyms, the cost is just £9 per session (£6.80 per session at Davison<br />

Leisure Centre and Worthing College). For our fitness classes, please go to pages 9-23 for<br />

class descriptions and non-member prices. For all other activities, please speak to us in person.<br />

Please note: non-members can only book 3 days in advance so availability may be<br />

limited and payment will need to be taken with your booking.<br />

staff will provide you with a warm welcome and are on hand to<br />

help you choose the activities that best suit your needs.<br />

Tips for attending classes<br />

• South Downs Leisure reserve the<br />

right to alter the class timetables or<br />

substitute activities without prior notice if<br />

circumstances dictate.<br />

• If you are unable to attend a class, please<br />

cancel it online or notify us within one hour<br />

of the booked class start time. This ensures<br />

everyone has a chance to attend classes.<br />

FIT4 Members<br />

Failure to cancel may result in a booking charge<br />

being applied.<br />

Centre Members and non-members<br />

In the event of a cancellation of a booking a<br />

refund will not be given.<br />

• Wear appropriate exercise clothing and<br />

trainers<br />

• Bring a bottle of water and a small towel<br />

• Advise the instructor of any health related<br />

problems or injuries you may have<br />

• If you are asthmatic please bring your<br />

• Make sure you don’t come to a class<br />

hungry, thirsty or having just eaten<br />

• Arrive at least 5 minutes before the start<br />

• Please bring an exercise mat and<br />

• No spectators are allowed in the studio<br />

Run Couch to 5k<br />

If you are interested in running but been scared to<br />

give it a go then the Couch to 5k program is for you.<br />

It's aim is to get just about anyone from the couch to<br />

running 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) or 30 minutes in just<br />

9 weeks. Sessions are at a pace that suits all fitness<br />

levels and doesn't leave you feeling exhausted.<br />

accompanied on a 1 adult : 1 child basis.<br />

This is regardless of whether the child is<br />

wearing a buoyancy aid.<br />

Mixed Ages<br />

Where an adult has 1 child aged 3 or under<br />

and another aged 4, 5, 6 or 7 then the younger<br />

child must wear an appropriate buoyancy aid.<br />

4 - 7 Years Old<br />

Children Aged 4, 5, 6 or 7 years must be<br />

accompanied on a 1 adult : 2 children basis as<br />

a minimum.<br />

This is regardless of whether either child is<br />

wearing a buoyancy aid.<br />

8 Years & Over<br />

Children aged 8 years and over do not need to<br />

be accompanied. It is therefore down to<br />

parents to be confident that their child’s<br />

swimming ability is of a suitable standard to<br />

This policy has been written following Risk Assessments being carried out taking into account the design,<br />

layout and type of pool; the swimming ability and age of children and whether approved buoyancy aids are<br />

being worn by non-swimmers. We have also used Guidance from Chartered Institute For The Management<br />

of Sport And Physical Activity (CIMSPA) and the Health & Safety Executive (HSE).<br />

Adult swimming lessons are run during term time on Wednesday and Sunday<br />

evenings for Beginners and Improvers. It’s never too late to learn!<br />

Beginners<br />

Course for complete beginners who want to<br />

gain water confidence and learn to swim.<br />

Improvers<br />

Course for adults who can swim but want to<br />

improve their technique.<br />

Front Crawl Technique Clinic<br />

This is a 30 minute session to improve your<br />

Front Crawl. This will be small group aimed<br />

at competent swimmers who want to refine<br />

their stroke technique and breathing.<br />

Fees: Fit4 £2.60, centre members £6.10<br />

and non-members £7.40.<br />

Adult Coaching – Coaching sessions are<br />

available every day except Saturday. Coached<br />

training sessions aim to improve stamina and<br />

stroke technique. These sessions are suitable<br />

for strong swimmers and triathletes, but there<br />

is a lane available on Tuesdays and Thursdays<br />

for those wanting to begin training.<br />
