Mahabaleshwar is the source of Krishna River that flows across the Maharashtra, Karnataka,
Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. The legendary source of the river is a spout from the mouth of a
statue of a cow (gomukh) in the ancient temple of Mahadev (Lord Shiva) in the old Maharashtra, it is a
faith that Krishna is Lord Vishnu itself due to a curse of Savitri, and Lord Shiva and Lord Brahma are
forming its tributary rivers Venna (Venni) and Koyna by themselves. An interesting thing is that four
more rivers are flowing from the cow mouth apart from Krishna, but they all travel some distance
before merging in Krishna. These rivers are Venna, Koyna, Savitri, and Gayatri. If you are travelling by
train then the view of Krishna from the bridge is an iconic view, its intense flow and echo by the
flowing water is amazing.
