Atha kho Bhagavā Gayāsīse yathābhirantaṁ viharitvā,<br />

<strong>The</strong>n the Gracious One, having dwelt at Gayā’s Head for as long as he liked,<br />

yena Rājagahaṁ tena cārikaṁ pakkāmi,<br />

left on walking tour for Rājagaha,<br />

mahatā Bhikkhusaṅghena saddhiṁ,<br />

together with a great Community of monks,<br />

bhikkhusahassena sabbeheva purāṇajaṭilehi.<br />

with a thousand monks all of whom were formerly yogis. 189<br />

Atha kho Bhagavā, anupubbena cārikaṁ caramāno,<br />
