aviśeṣa viśeṣajña pratibuddhāprabuddhayoḥ |<br />

praktīnā ca yo veda so ’viśeṣa iti smtaḥ || 12.29<br />

29. ‘That state <strong>of</strong> mind is called "indiscrimination," O thou who art discriminating,<br />

which thinks there is no difference between the illuminated and the unwise, and<br />

between the different evolvents.<br />

namaskāravaṣaṭkārau prokṣaṇābhyukṣaṇādayaḥ |<br />

anupāya iti prājñairupāyajña praveditaḥ || 12.30<br />

30. ‘Uttering "namas" and "vaṣaṭ," sprinkling water upon sacrifices, &c. with <strong>or</strong><br />

without the recital <strong>of</strong> Vedic hymns, and such like rites, — these are declared <strong>by</strong> the<br />

wise to be "false means," O thou who art well skilled in true means.<br />

sajjate yena durmedhā manovākkarmabuddhibhiḥ |<br />

viṣayeṣvanabhiṣvaga so ’bhiṣvaga iti smtaḥ || 12.31<br />

31. ‘That is called "in<strong>or</strong>dinate attachment," <strong>by</strong> which the fool is entangled in external<br />

objects through his mind, speech, actions, and thoughts, O thou who hast shaken<br />

thyself free from all attachments.<br />

mamedamahamasyeti yadduḥkhamabhimanyate |<br />

vijñeyo ’bhyavapātaḥ sa sasāre yena pātyate || 12.32<br />

32. ‘<strong>The</strong> misery which a man imagines <strong>by</strong> the ideas "This is mine," "I am connected<br />

with this," is to be recognised as "gravitation," — <strong>by</strong> this a man is b<strong>or</strong>ne downwards<br />

into new births.<br />

ityavidyā hi vidvāsaḥ pacaparvā samīhate |<br />

tamo moha mahāmoha tāmisradvayameva ca || 12.33<br />

33. ‘Thus Ign<strong>or</strong>ance, O ye wise, being fivefold in its character, energises towards<br />

t<strong>or</strong>p<strong>or</strong>, delusion, the great delusion, and the two kinds <strong>of</strong> darkness. 1<br />

tatrālasya tamo viddhi moha mtyu ca janma ca |<br />

mahāmohastvasamoha kāma ityavagamyatām || 12.34<br />

34. ‘Know, that among these indolence is "t<strong>or</strong>p<strong>or</strong>," death and birth are "delusion," and<br />

be it clearly understood, O undeluded one, that desire is the "great delusion."<br />

yasmādatra ca bhūtāni pramuhyati mahātyapi |<br />

tasmādeṣa mahābāho mahāmoha iti smtaḥ || 12.35<br />

35. ‘Since <strong>by</strong> it even the higher beings are deluded, theref<strong>or</strong>e, O hero, is this called the<br />

"great delusion."<br />
