School-Age & Early Childhood Registration information
Every camper is special. We want to ensure
that every camper has a wonderful and
memorable experience at camp, and that
requires your help. Please carefully review the
information in this booklet, information you
will receive after registration and information
that is sent home from camp. The registration
fee is non-refundable, and non-applicable to
camp tuition. The JCC is not responsible for
unintended, unforeseen absences. The JCC
reserves the right to cancel any camp for lack
of minimum enrollment; balances paid will be
transferred or refunded. You will be notified in
advance of any cancellations.
How to register
Use the appropriate registration form (starting
on page 9) and return it with the required
payment. Use one form per child. Once
registration is received, other forms will be sent
to you, which must be completed and returned
at least two weeks before camp starts. Full
payment is due per the deadlines at right.
Deposit and billing
With each child’s registration form you must
include the following at minimum:
• $35 per week deposit
• $20 non-applicable, non-refundable
registration fee
Registration will not be considered without both
the deposit and the registration fee. Note: Mail
and billing will be sent to the child’s address.
The JCC accepts cash, checks and credit
cards. There will be no third party billing.
Sibling discount
A 2% discount will be credited for each child’s
camp tuition when more than one child from
a family attends at least one session in the
same camp (both in School-Age Camp or both
in ECDP Camp). This credit will be calculated
following the end of camp once all registration
changes are recorded. The credit can ONLY be
applied toward other JCC, ECDP or Children’s
Programs (not including fundraisers or
membership). The credit must be used by Dec.
31, 2016. If a sibling does not attend a program
for any reason, the credit will not be given.
What tuition includes
Camp tuition includes materials, transportation
(School-Age Camps only), a camp T-shirt,
daily snacks, field trips and cookouts. Parents
will receive advance notice of special events
and optional program activities that require an
additional fee. Because camps are programmed
by session, campers who do not attend all five
days each week may miss field trips, special
programs and activities. Unfortunately, we are
unable to change or substitute days for which
a child has been registered to accommodate a
specific trip or event.
Scholarships/financial aid
Every child deserves a summer camp
experience. For that reason, the JCC offers a
limited number of scholarships for camps and
memberships. Scholarship applications must be
received by May 13, 2016. Please call the JCC
for a scholarship application.
Tax credits
The JCC’s summer day camps may qualify for a
childcare tax credit. Contact your tax advisor for
Yachad, meaning “all together” in Hebrew, is
Camp Rishon’s inclusion program for children
with special needs.
What is inclusion?
• Incorporating everyone with their strengths
and challenges, and allowing everyone to
contribute.
• Creating a sense of community among all
participants.
Why do children need inclusion?
• Fosters the development of a feeling of
belonging.
• Embraces the acceptance of individuality
among peers.
• Develops a sense of independence.
What do we do?
• Hands on learning.
• Provide additional support staff.
• Gross motor and fine motor development.
• Improve social interactions and social skills
among peers.
• Make accommodations as necessary by
altering teaching methods without lowering
standards.
• Modify activities to better meet individual
needs.
There will be no additional cost to enroll your
child in Camp Rishon’s Yachad Program
provided our grant funding is renewed again
this year.
Is Yachad right for my child?
Because individual needs vary, the first step
is to see if our Yachad Program is a good fit
for your child. Please contact Mick Hagan,
inclusion specialist, at 315-445-2360, ext. 129.
Space is limited, so don’t delay!
What you need to know...
Camp runs for 8 weeks
Camp Rishon offers children entering grades 1-6 a variety Monday–Friday
of adventurous and enriching programs which provide
June 27 – August 19
opportunities to establish lasting friendships and gain
No camp on July 4
experience “by doing.” Our diverse Specialty Camps offer
campers exciting new challenges and familiar favorites, while our Nitzanim Camp
combines the spirit and energy of a comprehensive day camp program with weekly
themes, field trips, occasional overnights and special events.
Program Options
Nitzanim Day Camp
This camp is geared toward the child who
wants an exciting variety of activities. It is many
of the specialty camps all rolled into one with an
emphasis on weekly themes. Specialists lead
activities in arts and crafts, sports and games,
Israeli culture with a visiting Israeli scout
counselor, drama and nature.
Daily Red Cross instructional and recreational
swimming and a weekly Shabbat celebration
round out some of Nitzanim’s highlights.
Nitzanim weekly field trips will take place
on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays
depending on the week. One day each week
is supplemented with a field day with themed
activities. Fridays are known as super Friday
where campers are given the opportunity to
choose between traditional (i.e. sports and arts)
and alternative activities (like slip and slide,
scavenger hunts, wacky water fun and much
more) to create their own schedules.
Specialty Camps
We offer over 30 different Specialty Camps for
kids to explore a specific interest area for an
entire week. From rocketry and basketball to
Overnight Fun
Campers have the opportunity to attend our
optional Thursday overnights for an additional
fee when enrolled in weeks 2, 4, 6 and 8. In
addition to two overnights here at the JCC,
we’ve got some cool off-site destinations lined
up! (See below schedule.) All overnights include
dinner on Thursday as well as breakfast and
lunch on Friday. Campers must be enrolled in a
school-age camp the week of the overnight.
Following is the 2016 overnight schedule:
WEEK 2 | Thursday, July 7 at the JCC
Kick off this overnight with an awesome magic
show!
gymnastics and horseback riding, the toughest
part will be deciding which camps to choose!
In addition to each camp’s special area of
focus, campers participate in daily Red Cross
swim instruction and recreational swimming.
Some swim times may be limited due to
schedules and possible travel times. A typical
Specialty Camp day includes 30 minutes of
instructional swim, approximately 45 minutes
of recreational swimming and 2-4 hours of
concentration time at the specialty activity.
Space may be limited and a minimum and
maximum enrollment may apply for certain
camps. See the specific camp information
you will receive after registration for additional
Membership Application
I, the undersigned primary member, for myself and all
persons listed above, hereby affirm the following:
I am applying for membership with the Jewish Community
Center (JCC) of Syracuse. I agree to abide by its rules
and bylaws. I understand that all members 18 years and
older may participate in the JCC’s annual meeting.
and does not reflect a month-to-month membership
commitment. If paying by monthly automatic payments
from a credit card, I authorize the JCC of Syracuse to
automatically charge my credit card account for each
consecutive month of the plan.
I understand that membership dues are automatically
renewed each year unless I give notice in writing. Note
that the JCC of Syracuse reserves the right to cancel a
membership for any reason at any time with appropriate
notice. I understand that membership is not transferable
and membership dues are non-refundable.
I have read and agree with these membership terms as
acknowledged by my signature below.
Our Early Childhood Camps encompass the high standards Monday–Friday
of our school-year Early Childhood Development Program. June 27 – August 19
We believe camp should be the place for making new friends
No camp on July 4
and having fun-filled days. Our goal is to provide a summer of
developmentally appropriate, interactive, outdoor activities that are sure to create
special memories for even our youngest campers.
General information
Staff
Year-round Early Childhood Director Jo David
and Assistant Director Pam Ranieri supervise
our Early Childhood Camps. Experienced
early childhood professionals from our schoolyear
program and carefully selected college
students staff our camp groups. These skilled,
trained counselors care about children and
offer guidance, support, encouragement,
enthusiasm and love.
Schedule
Our camp activity schedules are based
on a five-day week. To accommodate
varying family needs, we allow campers to
choose to join us for fewer days in a week
on Tuesday and Thursday or Monday,
Wednesday and Friday. Campers that
choose these lesser time options will get
to experience a wide variety, but not all, of
the activities summer camp offers. Tenokia
have the extended full-day option only.
Important pick-up information for
9 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. campers: If you also have
children attending the JCC’s School-Age Camp,
please come pick up your ECDP camper first by
3:45 p.m.
Groups
Children are placed according to chronological
appropriate and safe program. Absolutely
no exceptions can be allowed. All programs
(except off-site field trips for Gesher and
Yeladim campers) are held at the JCC. Each
group has their own individual, air-conditioned,
brightly lit and developmentally equipped room
to utilize as their special indoor home base.
Following our licensing policies, our five unique
Early Childhood Camps are:
learn valuable skills such as teamwork and
cooperation as they prepare to become a future
Camp Aide or CIT. Participants will still be
able to enjoy the daily camp experience while
taking on more responsibility than the average
camper. The Junior Camp Aide fee is $100 per
week for JCC of Syracuse members and $150
per week for non-members.
Camp Aide
group and assist the counselors and CITs.
Camp Aides will have the added advantage
of participating in the programs of their group.
included in this camp. Camp Aides may be
required to attend a meeting/training with the
Camp Director. Though there is no guarantee of
with the Camp Aides in order to accommodate
their interests. Requests are encouraged,
