Submit Recipient Names Starting In September<br />

In recognition of the long tradition of excellence in community<br />

college teaching and leadership, the League established the<br />

John & Suanne Roueche Excellence Awards in <strong>20</strong>12. These<br />

awards are open to League Alliance member institutions<br />

to celebrate contributions and leadership by community<br />

college faculty and staff. Recipients will be recognized in a<br />

series of activities and promotions, and honored at special<br />

events at the League’s Innovations Conference each spring.<br />

The Conference Registration Desk (Sheraton Chicago<br />

Ballroom Promenade, Level 4) is where participants<br />

pick up their registration materials and conference<br />

badges, obtain information about the program, and<br />

ask questions about the League for Innovation.<br />

JOHN E. ROUECHE AND TERRY O’BANION<br />

INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP AWARD WINNER<br />

The John E. Roueche & Terry O’Banion International<br />

Leadership Award is presented to outstanding<br />

individuals whose accomplishments and<br />

professional contributions to higher education<br />

and the community college field are recognized as<br />

motivational, inspirational, and transformational. An<br />

awards committee, consisting of national experts<br />

and selected League leadership, reviews nominations<br />

and confirms final designations. An award winner is<br />

honored at each year’s Innovations conference.<br />

EDUCATIONAL TESTING SERVICE O’BANION PRIZE<br />

Named in honor of Dr. Terry O’Banion, President<br />

Emeritus and Senior League Fellow of the League<br />

for Innovation in the Community College, the<br />

Educational Testing Service O’Banion Prize is given<br />

annually to an individual who has greatly influenced<br />

a transformation in teaching and learning, or<br />

to a college that best exemplifies the ideals and<br />

characteristics of a learning college as established by<br />

O’Banion and the League.<br />

JOHN & SUANNE ROUECHE EXCELLENCE<br />

AWARDS<br />

The <strong>20</strong>15 John & Suanne Roueche Excellence<br />

Awards, celebrating outstanding contributions and<br />

leadership by community college faculty and staff,<br />

will be presented at Innovations <strong>20</strong>16. The League<br />

is proud to continue a long tradition of recognizing<br />

excellence in community colleges across the nation<br />

and the world, and has incorporated special events<br />

into the conference program to congratulate awards<br />

recipients.<br />

Excellence Awards Kick-Off<br />

At this exclusive event, <strong>20</strong>15 recipients will be<br />

congratulated and celebrated for their exemplary<br />

work. The Kick-Off (Sheraton I/II, Level 4) will<br />

take place on Sunday, 3:30-4:15 PM. (Due to space<br />

limitations, this event is for <strong>20</strong>15 Excellence Awards<br />

recipients only.)<br />

Excellence Awards Photo and Video Sessions<br />

Moraine Valley Community College representatives<br />

will be on hand during Receptions in the Exhibition<br />

Hall (Riverwalk Hall, Level 1) on Sunday, 6:30-8:00<br />

PM, and Monday, 5:45-7:30 PM, to take photos and<br />

videos of <strong>20</strong>15 awards recipients who would like to<br />

participate. Videos and photos from these interview<br />

sessions, along with previously submitted photos,<br />

statements, and YouTube videos, will be shown at<br />

the Excellence Awards Kick-Off and the Excellence<br />

Awards Celebration and Closing Session.<br />

Excellence Awards Celebration and Closing Session<br />

The Closing Session (Sheraton Chicago Ballroom,<br />

Level 4) will pay special tribute to <strong>20</strong>15 Excellence<br />

Awards recipients. The Awards Program, featuring<br />

congratulatory ads, will be distributed to<br />

participants, and John and Suanne Roueche will<br />

provide the keynote address. As the session comes to<br />

a close, recipients will be asked to participate in the<br />

ceremonial donning of their medallions. This event<br />

will take place on Wednesday, 10:30 AM-12:00 PM.<br />

(Friends and family members of awards recipients are<br />

welcome to attend.)<br />

Innovations features an engaging exhibition of<br />

products and services provided by League for<br />

Innovation Corporate Partners. During functions held<br />

in the Exhibition Hall, conference participants visit<br />

with Corporate Partners, socialize with colleagues,<br />

and make new acquaintances as they enjoy light<br />

hors d’oeuvres, a brunch, coffee, or refreshments in<br />

PASSPORT<br />

Participate in the Passport game! Step 1: Get your<br />

Passport at the Conference Registration Desk. Step<br />

2: Take your Passport to participating booths in the<br />

Exhibition Hall to hear about wonderful products<br />

and services, and to receive vendor stamps. Step<br />

3: Submit your fully-stamped Passport to booth<br />

#518 by 2:45 PM on Tuesday to enter the drawing<br />

for amazing prizes. (Participants do not have to<br />

be present to win; prizes will be mailed after the<br />

Security at the hotel is available 24 hours a day.<br />

Participants who need to contact security, require<br />

first aid, or have an emergency should proceed to<br />

the nearest house phone and dial 88 for assistance.<br />

LOST AND FOUND<br />

During the conference, lost items are turned in and<br />

held at the Conference Registration Desk. After the<br />

conference, items will be left with the Sheraton<br />

Grand Chicago loss prevention department.<br />

RECORDING PRESENTATIONS<br />

Video, audio, or photo recording of conference<br />

presentations is not permitted without the express<br />

written consent of the League for Innovation, except<br />

by presenters who want to record their own sessions.<br />

The League reserves the rights to all recordings or<br />

reproductions at its conferences and meetings.<br />

CONFERENCE EVALUATION<br />

Your feedback is important to us! A link to the<br />

online conference evaluation will be emailed to<br />

all participants following Innovations <strong>20</strong>16. Please<br />

Colleges. Carroll serves on the<br />

National Council on the Humanities, having<br />

Association, University of San Diego, and San<br />

Jill Wakefield is a visionary leader<br />

who is recognized for developing<br />

strategic partnerships and<br />

of the Seattle Colleges in January<br />

<strong>20</strong>09 after serving five years as President at South<br />

Seattle College. While Wakefield was President, the<br />

college was the first in the state to offer an applied<br />

green and sustainable curriculum and programs,<br />

and stimulated numerous grants and initiatives<br />

Professor at Louisiana State University (LSU) Health Sciences Center School of<br />

Public Health. Her research interests and teaching areas include health policy,<br />

quality, workforce, and finance. Honoré is widely regarded as the leading<br />

national expert on public health finance given her pioneering work to define<br />

the field, conduct research, and develop publications that spans over 15 years.<br />

Prior to returning fulltime to LSU in June <strong>20</strong>15, Honoré served for eight years<br />

John Edward Roueche is President of the Roueche Graduate Center, National<br />

American University. Previously, he served as the Sid W. Richardson Regents<br />

Chair and as Professor and Director of the Community College Leadership<br />

Program at The University of Texas at Austin. Roueche is a graduate of Mitchell<br />

Community College. He has served as a high school history and English<br />

teacher, community college Dean of Students and Instructional Dean, and<br />

faculty member at UCLA and Duke University. Roueche has spoken at more<br />

than 1,300 colleges and universities on topics of teaching and leadership excellence. He is<br />

the author of 37 books and has served as Principal Investigator for more than $40 million in<br />

projects funded by major American foundations.<br />

ABOUT THE LEAGUE<br />

The League for Innovation in the Community College (League) is an international nonprofit<br />

association dedicated to catalyzing the community college movement. CEOs from the most<br />

influential, resourceful, and dynamic community colleges and districts in the world comprise<br />

the League’s board of directors and provide strategic direction for its ongoing activities.<br />

These community colleges and their leaders are joined by more than 800 institutions that<br />
