A word from the
Trustees
2016 promises to be a busy and exciting time for Dorset
and Somerset Air Ambulance as a number of projects
come to fruition in a relatively short space of time.
In April, we move to having a doctor on board our
helicopter, seven days a week. This is both financially
and clinically challenging, however, evidence from those
already using this model shows that it is absolutely the
right decision to make. This improvement has been
underpinned by our paramedic team continuing their
studies to ensure they are fully qualified to deliver the
highest level of critical care. To undertake these studies is
no mean achievement and it is wonderful that their hard
work was rightly recognised at the 2015 HSJ Awards. The
Trustees are thrilled that they have been acknowledged
in this way and congratulate them all.
Our new helicopter will arrive later this year. It has
been fantastic to be able to research and select the best
aircraft that we believe will serve our requirements,
knowing that we have sufficient funds to do so. This
is thanks to the wonderful support that the Charity
receives and I personally thank everyone for their
continued support.
Simon Michell stood down from the Board of Trustees
after a nine-year period at our December meeting. He had
been Chairman of the Board for the last three years and
his commitment and leadership throughout this period
has been outstanding. Simon has been instrumental in
the Charity’s development over the years and we thank
him for his service.
I am delighted to have been asked to take on the role
of Chair and look forward to working with the executive
and clinical team during this very exciting year ahead.

13 years of service
Our best wishes go to Janet Gibbs, who has left
the Charity after 13 years of service. Janet joined
the Charity back in 2003 when our offices were
located in a portakabin at Taunton Ambulance
Station. She continued to work part time in our
administration department based at head office
in Wellington. We wish her well for the future.
