<strong>Chittorgarh</strong> is a city <strong>in</strong> <strong>Rajasthan</strong>. It lies on the Berach<br />

River, a tributary of the Banas River. It was the former<br />

capital of the Sisodiya dynasty of Mewar. It has a<br />

history of Kshatriya Rajputs, the great warriors. Even<br />

now, every child of Mewar is grow<strong>in</strong>g to hear stories<br />

of the Rajputana. The great warriors Rana Kumbha,<br />

Maharana Pratap were belonged to this land. Rao<br />

Jaimal and Patta are the two chiefta<strong>in</strong>s of Mewar,<br />

Gora and Badal was became the legendary warriors.<br />

Choittorgarh or Chittor Durg or Chittor Fort was<br />

siege thrice and <strong>co</strong>mmitted thrice johars by Rani<br />

Padm<strong>in</strong>i, Rani Karnavati, and ladies and children.<br />

It also was worshipped for Meera. <strong>Chittorgarh</strong> is<br />

the largest fort of India. This place has six<br />

<strong>in</strong>terested and historic monuments. <strong>Chittorgarh</strong> fort,<br />

Vijaya stambh, Kirti Stambh, Rani Padm<strong>in</strong>i Palace,<br />

Rana Kumbha’s Palace, and Kalika Mata Temple.


First look at the “<strong>Chittorgarh</strong>”. This is the largest fort <strong>in</strong> India.<br />

It is one of the world heritage sites. It was the first siege by<br />

Allaud<strong>in</strong> Khilaji, se<strong>co</strong>nd Bahadur Shah, third by Akbar. These<br />

<strong>co</strong>nsequences <strong>in</strong> more than 13000 johars <strong>co</strong>mmitted by the<br />

ladies and children, first johar <strong>co</strong>mmitted by Rani Padm<strong>in</strong>i the<br />

wife of Rana Ratan S<strong>in</strong>gh, later by Rani Karnawati. You can<br />

hear the history of this place by every kid <strong>in</strong> the town. They<br />

will tell you every bit. You can’t describe the heroism of the<br />

warriors <strong>in</strong> writ<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

When you look at the walls you will feel the <strong>co</strong>urage the honour <strong>in</strong> the stand<strong>in</strong>g the place where the yarn<br />

<strong>co</strong>mmenced of <strong>in</strong>dependence. Visit<strong>in</strong>g to the fort you will explore more that you know. This fort is roughly <strong>in</strong><br />

a fish shape, has a circumference of 13 kilometer and 700 acres area. It has a bridge en<strong>co</strong>mpasses<br />

through Gambhiri river and supported by ten arches, apart from two tall towers. The fort has seven gates<br />

the Paidal Pol, Bhairon Pol, Hanuman Pol, Ganesh Pol, Jorla Pol, Laxman Pol, and Ram Pol, the f<strong>in</strong>al and<br />

ma<strong>in</strong> gate.


The fort <strong>co</strong>mplex <strong>co</strong>mprises with 65 historic built structures, among them 4 palaces <strong>co</strong>mplex, 19 ma<strong>in</strong><br />

temples, 20 functional water bodies. Every bend has some <strong>in</strong>volvement <strong>in</strong> the history, may be for this<br />

reason every crook tells the history. The architecture and the eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g followed at that time is just<br />

fantastic even though the lack of techniques. The old architecture is still beautiful.<br />

Explor<strong>in</strong>g more about the place next move to “Vijaya Stambh” is<br />

known as a “Tower of victory” erected by Rana Kumbha after victory<br />

over Muhmud Shah Khilji <strong>in</strong> year 1458 to 1468. It is 122 ft. tall and has<br />

a narrow staircase of 157 steps. You can take an awesome look from<br />

the top of the build<strong>in</strong>g (8th floor) of the city. It is carved and doomed<br />

build<strong>in</strong>g, its look so attractive <strong>in</strong> the night wrapped <strong>in</strong> the lights.<br />

Rana Kumbha palace” is situated near to the Vijaya Stambh leads to<br />

the ma<strong>in</strong> gate of the palace, this palace is Rana Udai S<strong>in</strong>gh’s birth<br />

place. The most famous story is related to Panna Dhai, who saved him<br />

by substitut<strong>in</strong>g her own son <strong>in</strong> his place as distraction who was killed by<br />

Banbir.


She was a loyal and brave servant of the Rani. The palace has splendid<br />

canopies of bal<strong>co</strong>nies. The only entry gate is the Suraj Pol which leads to<br />

the <strong>co</strong>urtyard. It has underground cellars where the Ranis <strong>co</strong>mmitted the<br />

johars along with other ladies.<br />

The famous poetess “Meera” also lived <strong>in</strong> the palace.<br />

The “Kirti Stambh” is degambara Ja<strong>in</strong> monuments. It is known as<br />

“Tower of Fame”. It is 72ft. high tower smaller than Vijaya Stambh. It<br />

built by a Bagherwal Ja<strong>in</strong> merchant jijaji Rathod. It is dedicated to<br />

Ad<strong>in</strong>ath the first thirtanker of Ja<strong>in</strong> religion, the lowest floor has another<br />

figures Ja<strong>in</strong> pantheon.


The place also re<strong>co</strong>gnized as H<strong>in</strong>du div<strong>in</strong>e spirits one<br />

of them is the most famous sa<strong>in</strong>t and poetess “Meera”<br />

she was an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna.<br />

The”Meera Temple” is built <strong>in</strong> Rana Kumbha’s rule. It<br />

symbolizes the one god with one head of five human<br />

bodies and Vernas. The architecture is built <strong>in</strong> Indo<br />

Aryan style. Meera’s poetries are sculptured on the<br />

walls.<br />

“Rani Padm<strong>in</strong>i Palace” is a white build<strong>in</strong>g. It is<br />

surrounded by the water moat. It is the palace where<br />

Allud<strong>in</strong> Khilji was permitted to glimpse of mirror image<br />

of Rani Padm<strong>in</strong>i wife of Rana Ratan S<strong>in</strong>gh, it was charm<br />

of her beauty for which Allud<strong>in</strong> Khiji began the battle to<br />

possess her, but unfortunately Rana Ratan S<strong>in</strong>gh<br />

defeated <strong>in</strong> that battle and Rani Padm<strong>in</strong>i <strong>co</strong>mmitted the<br />

johar. The bronze gate which was embellished on the<br />

palace was taken by Akbar to Agra.


This place has a lot more places to visit <strong>in</strong> <strong>Chittorgarh</strong>. You can take camel safari, elephant safari and<br />

horse ride here. Taste the <strong>Rajasthan</strong>i, but a different spicy food. The food is actually has varied<br />

ac<strong>co</strong>rd<strong>in</strong>g to tradition which <strong>co</strong>mes from the k<strong>in</strong>gs and climate of the place.
