A MESSAGE FROM THE CAMPING SERVICES DIRECTOR... 

Camp Sturtevant is proud to offer summer programming that helps all campers increase their selfesteem, 

confidence, and personal growth through progressive and age-appropriate activities. Playing 

is a crucial part of any child’s development and we have no shortage of that during a summer at Camp 

Sturtevant! As I return to participate in another fantastic year of YMCA summer camp, along with 

enthusiastic staff of new and returning camp counselors, I am more than excited to bring the camp 

experience to the youth of our community. Experiencing camp is a priceless opportunity, and I have seen 

first hand how it has changed lives! The energy at Camp Sturtevant is contagious and I am honored serve 

our community within this beautiful space. 

One of our biggest changes this year is our extended check in time! We have heard your feedback 

and we are happy to offer check in time as early as 6:30am at our YMCA Branch locations! Also new 

to camp is the addition of our Garden Center. It is incredibly crucial for campers to get their hands in the 

dirt and it is why we are bringing our Woodson YMCA Community Garden program out 

to camp. We know you have many choices to make in regards to your child’s activities 

this summer. We are always here to help, please contact us with any questions. It’s 

going to be a great season. Camp is just like regular life… only better!

DAY CAMPS • KINDER KUBS 

SUN, FUN AND FRIENDS 

KINDER KUBS (AGES 3-5*) 

Kinder Kubs Preschool Camp is a great way to add zest to your child’s summer. With winding 

nature trails, beautiful beaches, and play areas to explore, camp will provide a comfortable 

and welcoming location where each day songs will be sung, adventures will be had, and 

activities will be enjoyed. As part of the overall camp experience, Kinder Kubs will have 

opportunities to join Camp Sturtevant and their programs as well as small group activities 

within their own program. Field trips, fun in the sun at Marathon Park Splash Pad, and 

adventures at Camp Sturtevant are all part of the program. Stressing safety, we offer low 

camper to counselor ratios with Junior Staff assisting along the way. Schedules will be sent 

home on the first day of camp each week that will outline the week’s activities and themes. 

Full day campers must bring a sleeping bag for rest period. *Children must be potty-trained. 

Drop off begins at 6:30 am at YMCA branches. (See transportation options on page 8)

DAY CAMPS • PIONEERS & TRAILBLAZERS 

PIONEERS DAY CAMPERS (AGES 5-6) 

TRAILBLAZERS DAY CAMPERS (AGES 7-8) 

Join us for a week or an entire summer at Day Camp Sturtevant. 

During each week campers will have the opportunity to experience 

the outdoors, Camp Sturtevant style. Activities include large 

group games, crafts, BB guns, archery, canoeing, kayaking, 

swimming, high ropes course, low ropes course, nature, weekly 

theme activities, sports and much, much more! Counselors are 

college age adults who have been selected and trained with 

special care in the areas of safety, child development, creativity 

and understanding of children. Camp Sturtevant staff act as 

positive adult role models for their campers. Day Camp programs 

are offered in Half Day options during the Summer School 

sessions or Full Day options during the entire summer break. 

Included in the program will be: field trips to area attractions, 

exploring the river in kayaks or canoes, soaring on the high ropes course, playing 

as a team during a Big Fun Rec game, learning a variety of skills as part of the 

camp themes and enjoying your summer outdoors. Drop off begins at 6:30 am 

at YMCA branches. (See transportation options on page 8) 

OVERNIGHTS! 

For campers ages 8 and up, 

we will offer two overnights

Designed for the older camper, Leadership Camp is a natural 

extension of the Camp Sturtevant experience. Recognizing 

the changing needs for more adventure and more challenge, 

it is all the more meaningful because it is shared with 

others. This is a unique camping experience, enhancing the 

development of outdoor living skills, natural awareness, and 

close relationships with others. 

Leadership Camp offers week long experiences built around 

3 and 4-day trips around the state of Wisconsin. Trips to 

the Porcupine Mountains, Northwoods region, Peshtigo River, 

State Parks and National Recreation areas highlight the 

summer. 

*If trips do not have a minimum of 6 campers, participants 

will be offered an alternate experience.

vast canyon peaks and rushing waterfalls.

One last splash for the summer. Camp and play in 

the Dells. We’ll be getting wet all week! 

RANCH CAMP (AGES 8-16) 

From feeding and grooming, to doing work around the corral, 

campers will gain basic horse care and riding skills at beautiful 

Aspirus YMCA Ranch Camp in Weston. As part of their riding 

experience, ranch campers will take to the trails as they enjoy 

a trail ride on one of our scenic riding trails. Ranch campers 

will also join with the day campers and participate in camp 

activities such as archery, air rifles, Big Fun Rec, Ga ga, 

swimming and more! (See transportation options on page 8) 

RANCH HANDS 

Ideal for ages 

8-13 with little

YMCA Resident Camp, through its spirited counselors, 

adult leaders, strong programs, and commitment to 

young adults, offers a traditional camping experience 

that will assist campers to grow personally, appreciate 

diversity, clarify values, improve personal and family 

relationships, and develop outdoor skills…all while 

having fun and making new friends in their close-knit 

cabin groups. 

A Jewel in the Northwoods of 

Wisconsin, Camp Jorn YMCA is 

situated on the shores of pristine 

Rest Lake in Manitowish Waters. 

Since 1953, Camp Jorn has been 

delivering mission driven programs 

that have a positive impact on 

the lives of young people. 

Campers will spend their week water skiing, riding horses, 

swimming, kayaking, playing a variety of sports and games, 

enjoying time around the campfire with friends and cabin 

mates – all the while making memories to last a lifetime! 

Transportation: There will be one way or round-trip bus 

transportation available from YMCA Camp Sturtevant.

Campers must register for the bus and bus fee is due at time of registration.

Student busing to camp. 

YMCA SUMMER SCHOOL CAMPS

There is no better way to spend the afternoon than at Y Camp! The Camp 

Sturtevant Afternoon Programs offer campers who are participating in summer 

school a chance to experience afternoon activities, swimming, and outdoor 

adventures. The program follows the school district’s summer school program 

calendars. 

• D.C. Everest students NEED to be bussed to Camp Sturtevant. 

• Wausau students will need to be transported to Camp Sturtevant. 

• Busing back to the Wausau and Aspirus YMCAs is available.

A time for moms to create a special memory 

with their son(s), ages 5-12, in the outdoors. 

Join us for an adventure full of canoing, 

swimming, scavenger hunts and of course, 

camping! Participants also get goodie bags 

and have chance to win prizes in drawings. 

Cost: $45 per parent/child combo 

and $14 per additional child.

Funds raised from this event go towards 

our Community Partners Campaign.

WOODSON YMCA CAMPING SERVICE PROGRAM POLICIES 

Registration/Cancellations 

Campers must register for full weeks of summer camp at a time. We cannot allow individual day enrollments. In addition to the 

Woodson YMCA policies laid out in its Program Guide, camping program participants are subject to the following guidelines: 

To be eligible for any credit, it is the parent/guardian responsibility to cancel out of programs. If a cancellation does not occur 

and there is no attendance, credit may not be issued. All cancellations MUST occur before the program’s first day. Campers 

are not eligible for refunds or credits for partial or single day absences and/or illnesses. Deposits are transferable within the 

program i.e. from one week to another and must be made at the time of the session. The Camping Services staff may review 

each situation based upon circumstances and any adjustments or changes to fees and policies will need to be approved by the 

appropriate Camping Services staff.

The balance of each week is due at least two (2) weeks prior to the start of the week OR an additional $10.00 late fee will be

Financial Assistance 

Understanding that families have differing abilities to pay, we pride ourselves in working with and extending the opportunity 

to all children and families the chance to experience a YMCA Camp program. Preschool Camps, Day Camp, and Half Day 

programs are licensed through the State of Wisconsin and therefore able to accept families that receive assistance through 

the Department of Social Services. As always, Financial Assistance in the form of full and half scholarships is offered to 

qualifying participants through the YMCA Community Partners Campaign. Families who would qualify for a school district’s 

Free and Reduced Lunch Program will qualify for Financial Assistance for camp.

REGISTRATION & DEPOSITS 

Bring in or mail completed Registration Form with the non-refundable deposit to 

secure each camp week spot to: Camp Registrar, Woodson YMCA, 707 Third Street, 

Wausau, WI 54403. Changes in registration require a minimum of 2 weeks notice. 

I understand/authorize: 

• All registration/deposit/refund policies (see last page) 

• The use of Deep Woods Off w/25% DEET bug repellent and NO-AD 45 Sunscreen 

for my child OR that I may opt out of the camp provided sunscreen and bug 

repellent and may indicate the type on the provided Health History Form 

• My child to take part in camp activities including bus trips, field trips, equine, 

high adventure, shooting sports, and water based activities 

• In case of injury or illness the Camp Director or staff to secure medical attention 

if unable to communicate with me or an emergency contact 

• I have been notified of any pets at centers/camps and the contact my child may 

have with them 

• The Woodson YMCA, Inc. does not provide insurance for its program 

participants and is not responsible for personal property damages or loss 

• That upon request, a copy of the applicable parts of the Department of Children 

and Families 252.41(1)(h) and a copy of the care policies of the camp will be 

available. That each year I must submit NEW Registrations, Health Histories 

(back of brochure) and Immunizations
