Wissenschaftler des IHP sind aktiv beteiligt in Gremien der europäischen Technologieplattformen, u. a. ENIAC, ARTEMIS, EPoSS und eMobility. Die neue 0,13-µm-SiGe-BiCMOS-Technologie des IHP ist mit 300-GHz-HBTs ein bedeutender Schritt auf dem Weg zu höheren Arbeitsfrequenzen und geringerem Leistungs- und Flächenbedarf für komplexe Schaltungen und Systeme. Langfristig sind es für das IHP wichtige Ziele, siliziumbasierte Bauelemente und Systeme mit Arbeitsfrequenzen bis zum Terahertz-Bereich sowie in Silizium integrierte Lösungen für die optische Datenübertragung zu entwickeln. Die kostengünstige Erzeugung von Terahertz-Strahlung ist sowohl Grundlage für drahtlose Kommunikationssysteme mit höchsten Datenraten als auch für bildgebende Anwendungen auf attraktiven Gebieten wie Sicherheit, Materialanalyse, Biologie und Medizin. Zur Anschaffung der dazu notwendigen Forschungsausrüstungen konnten für die kommenden drei Jahre zusätzliche EU-Mittel (EFRE) in Höhe von 22,5 Mio. € eingeworben werden. Die Drittmitteleinnahmen des Institutes überstiegen im Jahr 2007 erstmals 8 Mio. €. Durch die zusätzlichen Projekte konnte die Anzahl der am Institut tätigen Mitarbeiter auf 220 wachsen. An dieser Stelle möchten wir unseren Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern ganz herzlich für ihre engagierte Arbeit danken. Ebenso danken wir der Brandenburgischen Landesregierung und der Bundesregierung für die außerordentliche Unterstützung unserer Arbeiten. IHp scientists are actively working in bodies of european technology platforms such as enIAC, ARteMIS, epoSS and eMobility. the institute`s new 0.13 µm SiGe BiCMoS technology with 300 GHz HBts is an important step towards higher working frequencies, smaller required areas and less power dissipation for complex circuits and systems. Important long-term goals for IHp are silicon based devices and systems with working frequencies up to the terahertz range as well as integrated solutions in silicon for optical data transmission. the cost-effective generation of terahertz radiation is a basis for wireless communication systems with highest performance as well as for imaging applications in promising areas such as security, analysis of materials, biology and medicine. For the investment in the research equipment needed for these applications an additional european eFRe funding of 22.5 million euros was procured for the next three years. In 2007 the third party funding exceeded 8 million euros for the first time. With these additional projects the number of IHp employees grew to 220. At this point we would like to express our sincere thanks to our staff for their committed work. We are also grateful to the regional government of Brandenburg and the federal government for the extraordinary support of our research.
