Die Forschungschwerpunkte des IHP beinhalten volkswirtschaftlich
relevante Themen, insbesondere für die
- Telekommunikation
- Autoindustrie
- Luft- und Raumfahrt
- Telemedizin
- Automatisierungstechnik.
Als Leibniz-Institut betreibt das IHP auf diesen Gebieten
Grundlagenforschung und angewandte Forschung.
Besonderheiten des IHP sind:
- Die Fokussierung auf siliziumbasierte Systeme,
Höchstfrequenzschaltungen und Technologien für die
drahtlose und Breitbandkommunikation
- Der vertikale Ansatz (von der Materialforschung bis
zum Schaltkreis- und Systemdesign)
- Die Verstärkung der Kapazitäten für Grundlagenforschung
durch eine sehr enge Kooperation mit Hochschulen
auf der Basis von Joint Labs
- Ein forschungsorientierter, national und international
breit genutzter Multiprojekt Wafer & Prototyping
Service für Hochschulen, Forschungsinstitute und
High-Tech-Firmen
- Eine enge Kooperation mit einer großen Anzahl von
verschiedenen Industriefirmen.
Das IHP wirkt deshalb auch als Brücke zwischen Hochschulforschung
und Industrie.
2007 konnte das Institut bedeutende Fortschritte bei
der Einbindung in die europäische Forschungslandschaft
erreichen. Bereits beim ersten Call im 7. Forschungsrahmenprogramm
der EU gelang es, gemeinsam
mit Partnern vier wichtige Projekte einzuwerben.

the main research of the IHp is focused on economically
relevant topics, especially for
- telecommunication
- Automobile industry
- Aerospace
- telemedicine
- Automation.
As a leibniz institute IHp conducts basic and applied
research in these areas.
Special features of the IHp are:
- the focus on silicon based systems, high frequency
circuits and technologies for wireless and broadband
communication
- the vertical approach (from materials research to
circuit and system design)
- Strengthening of the capacities for basic research
by close cooperation with universities in Joint
labs
- A research-oriented, nationally and internationally
broadly applied Multi project Wafer & prototyping
Service for universities, research institutes and
high-tech companies
- An intensive cooperation with a large number of
different companies.
therefore, IHp also acts as a bridge between university
research and the industry.
In 2007 the institute achieved considerable progress
in its integration into the european research landscape.
