Building mounted signs<br />

Before affixing a street lamp or traffic sign to a<br />

building, the authority will have to serve notice<br />

in writing on the building’s owner no less than<br />

56 days before the date on which they intend to<br />

commence the works. For further information<br />

please refer to the Code of Practice for Affixing<br />

Traffic Signs and Street Lighting to Buildings in<br />

London (2015) for exercising the powers set out<br />

in section 45 of the Public Health Act 1961 and<br />

section 74 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act<br />

1984 as amended by clause 4 of the London<br />

Local Authorities and Transport for London<br />

(No. 2) Bill.<br />

Low level signage<br />

• Design teams should consider how to<br />

minimise the visual and physical intrusion of<br />

low level signage such as traffic bollards<br />

• Integrating pedestrian and cycle signage within<br />

bollards can be an effective way of reducing<br />

the need for larger post mounted signs<br />

• ‘Keep left’ signs should be provided only<br />

where a road safety audit has identified the<br />

need
