• Overall post design should be provided<br />

in accordance with TSRGD, with the flag<br />

positioned at a height of 3500mm to<br />

ensure good visibility. Flags are fitted with<br />

additional timetable and route information to<br />

complement the poster publicity in shelters<br />

• The finish should be silver grey in our standard<br />

approved palette<br />

Authorisation<br />

Our bus stop flag is a traffic sign as defined<br />

by the Traffic Signs Regulations and General<br />

Directions 2002, and is erected only after<br />

consultation with the highway authority.<br />

Bus passenger shelters<br />

The following should be read in conjunction<br />

with section 6.1.3 of the DfT’s Inclusive mobility<br />

guide (2002) and our Accessible Bus Stop Design<br />

Guidance (2015).<br />

Location<br />

There are three general arrangement options for<br />

bus passenger shelter placement based on the<br />

footway width, pedestrian flows, required bus<br />

stop capacity and adjacent building entrance<br />

locations.<br />

Shelters should ideally be positioned a minimum<br />

2,000mm from any other street furniture.<br />

Where there is inadequate space for a shelter,<br />

a free-standing unit with integral flag, Realtime<br />

information (RTI) ‘Countdown’ and perch seat<br />

may be provided.<br />

Bins should be provided where space allows,<br />

although not sited within 2,000mm of the<br />

passenger waiting, boarding or alighting areas.<br />
