SATURATE: FOR THE EARTH WILL BE FILLED WITH
THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE GLORY OF THE LORD AS
THE WATERS COVER THE SEA.
HABAKKUK 2:14
We are entering the most significant moment at
Resonate that is very much like the beginning of our
church five years ago. I remember like it was yesterday,
sitting in my living room with 30 others, dreaming about
a church that would reach our beloved city with the
Gospel. I’ll never forget our first service at Forest Park
Elementary School. I’ll never forget all the people that
got baptized that year and have since. Despite being
in one of the least churched cities in our country, our
Gospel-saturated movement is forever changing lives and
is rapidly advancing in scope and influence.
This upcoming moment will be one that will mark our
church’s impact for years to come. SATURATE is a twoyear
journey that has the potential to transform our
church by taking us to new levels of effectiveness in
disciple making and by increasing our Gospel influence in
the Bay Area and the world.
4

We believe that during this next season, we
will experience the most extraordinary phase
in the life of our church yet. God did not call
us to be a stagnant church, or to be a growing
church, but a reproducing church. He’s calling
us to follow Him as He transforms the world
around us through us, starting with our
families, our city, and the Bay Area.
My challenge for you is to consider what it
looks like for you to be a part of our family
vision here at Resonate. Start thinking of what
it could look like if EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US
participated in radical, sacrificial generosity.
It would mean sacrificing time, unnecessary
commitments, and resources in order to make
investments in things that will outlast us for
eternity. I’m confident this Gospel impact will
be our legacy if we come together like never
before.
So I invite you in on this great adventure that’s
before us. No one has ever regretted giving to
Jesus of which He freely gave first. We once took
a huge leap of faith by launching a new church
in one of the hardest soils in our country. God
blessed it, and I believe He did it to bless others
with the Gospel we know and love. So let’s go
and SATURATE our cities and the world as the
waters cover the sea.
Christ is all,
PASTOR RYAN KWON
The vision God has given us is breathtaking.
The stakes are high. Countless lives will be
impacted by the investments we make to
SATURATE our family, city, the Bay Area, and
the world for His glory. And it will only be
done if people of the Gospel like you and I join
together like never before. My prayer is that
100% of us will joyfully commit to generosity
for the sake of the Gospel.
THE HISTORY OF OUR MOVEMENT

7

INITIATIVE OVERVIEW
This vision God has given us is the greatest step
of faith we have taken as a church. Our sense of
calling is strong. We believe with all our hearts
that God has blessed us and grown us for the
purpose of blessing and growing others.
We are calling this new season, “Saturate.”
This is the very heart of God; to send his only
begotten son to die on our behalf, so that
the earth will be saturated with the loving
knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the
waters cover the sea. We believe God has given
our church the privilege in joining him to fulfill
his heart and mission.
Over the next two years, we’re focusing all of
our generosity (tithes, offerings) into one fund.
This single fund will provide the resources
needed to saturate our families, our city, and
the Bay Area with the gospel. Having one fund
for all of our giving celebrates the fact that
everything we do and everything we support is
significant in the kingdom of God.
ENLARGE THE PLACE OF YOUR TENT,
AND LET THE CURTAINS OF YOUR
HABITATIONS BE STRETCHED OUT; DO NOT
HOLD BACK; LENGTHEN YOUR CORDS AND
STRENGTHEN YOUR STAKES. FOR YOU WILL
SPREAD ABROAD TO THE RIGHT AND TO THE
LEFT, AND YOUR OFFSPRING WILL POSSESS
THE NATIONS AND WILL PEOPLE THE
DESOLATE CITIES.
SATURATE 2 YEAR GOALS
PEOPLE GOAL: 100% PARTICIPATION
TOTAL TWO-YEAR GENEROSITY GOAL: $9 MILLION
PRIMARY
Our primary goal is that as close as possible to
100 percent of our people would go before God
and have a life-changing encounter with Him as
it relates to their generosity. During this season,
we will experience biblical teaching, intentional
prayer, personal and group studies, and shared
testimonies with one another.
100 %
PARTICIPATION
$9M
SECONDARY
Our secondary goal is $9 million in
generous giving to do what we believe God
is calling us to do: invest in our 3 initiatives
to saturate our families, our city, and the
Bay Area and the World.
SATURATE OUR FAMILIES
TWO-YEAR GOAL: $5 MILLION
Resonate is responsible for the discipleship
of approximately 1300 people. In the past
year, more people have been transformed
by the Gospel than ever before in the
history of our church.
This investment over the next two years
represents the ongoing strengthening of
our “general budget” – which is anything
but general. It is the life-blood which
empowers the core of what Resonate is
about.
By providing funding to three areas, our
prayerful hope is to reach and catalyze
2000 disciples who are fully committed to
making disciples in their generation.
Weekend experience:
To increase our effectiveness in
communication within the congregation,
delivery of the weekly Gospel message, and
To strengthen discipleship, training
and ministry for our children and
middle school, and high school.
SATURATE OUR CITY
TWO-YEAR GOAL: $3 MILLION
RESOURCES FOR A FACILITY
As you may well be aware, some of our services
are maxed out and are more often than not
“standing room only”. This has become a
significant bottleneck to our potential growth.
Lord willing, we hope to lease an 800 seat
facility. In addition to providing new seats
to reach new people on the weekends, it
also makes it possible for Resonate to be a
beacon of light and provide valuable ministry
throughout the week in our city. Among our
hopes is that it would also serve as a hub to
reproducing church planters.
RESOURCES FOR THE CITY
The local church is God’s “Plan A” for bringing the
Gospel to our city. God has given us a vision to serve
the neediest in our midst, specifically the homeless
and the disadvantaged. As a church for the city,
we have the privilege of serving as the living proof
of a radically loving God by putting the Gospel on
display.
SATURATE THE BAY AREA AND THE WORLD
TWO-YEAR GOAL: $1 MILLION
Resonate was birthed with a dream of becoming a sending
agent by discipling people and planting churches. This
dream establishes our two core missional convictions:
EVERY DISCIPLE IS A MISSIONARY
We hope to open multiple new pathways to mobilize
students in schools, marketplace professionals, single
WE PLANT CHURCHES THAT PLANT CHURCHES
The church is God’s “Plan A” for transforming individual
lives and entire communities. If we want to see our cities
transformed by the Gospel, we must fill them with Gospelcentered
churches. By planting churches that plant
churches, we will see the Gospel advance beyond our
wildest imagination. That is why we are committed to plant
five churches in the next five years, for Christ’s sake.
adults, families, and retirees to strategically engage their
neighborhood, workplace, and hangouts.
NEXT STEPS
We are asking you to go on a spiritual journey with God and your family and take the biggest step of
generosity you’ve ever taken as we move together to accomplish all he has for us through Saturate.
These are four steps that we are specifically asking you to take:
1 ) PRAY FERVENTLY
Pray that God would saturate our family, our city, and the world
with the gospel by making disciples and planting churches.
2 ) COMMIT FULLY
Help us reach our goal of 100 percent participation in this lifechanging
experience. Stand side by side with your church family.
Commit to do whatever God asks. Put your “yes” on the table.
3 ) CHEER LOUDLY
Own the Saturate vision and become a cheerleader for it within
your spheres of influence. Engage in the Saturate study with your
Missional Communities.
4 ) GIVE GENEROUSLY
Commit to being at Sunday services from February 21st through
March 20th. Ask God to show you during this season what a
sacrificial gift looks like and take the bold step to trust God with
your provision. You cannot out-give God.
Commitment Sunday: March 20th
Bring back your commitment card on March 20th when we’ll celebrate our 6th year anniversary
and commit ourselves to the vision God has called us to. It will be a milestone in the life of Resonate
Church, one we won’t soon forget. Together, with God’s power, we will make disciples and plant
churches to saturate the world with His gospel.
18

GENEROSITY JOURNEY
The Generosity Journey is a tool designed to help you move money from being
an idol to money being a tool for God’s kingdom. The Journey focuses on the
condition of our hearts further transforming us into the likeness of Christ.
Each step of the Journey represents growth in a lifestyle of generosity and
sacrifice. These are not steps you slowly ascend to get to God, but rather a
way to evaluate your growth in generosity.
Sacrificial Giver
This is someone who asks the question, “Am I giving in a way
that changes me? Am I giving in a way that causes my lifestyle
to be different to reflect the transformation Christ is making in
me?” A Sacrificial Giver’s commitment changes how they live in
this world, affecting lifestyle, personal priorities, and budgeting
in a way that disadvantages them.
Intentional Giver
This is someone who asks a question such as, “Why am I giving
more to my cell phone bill than I am giving to God?” Or, “Should I
be giving to God more than I give for my mortgage each month?”
This giver starts to make their giving an intentional choice that
reflects their love for a Savior that has given everything for them.
Lifetime Giver
A Lifetime Giver is no longer
asking the question, “God,
how much are you asking
me to give?” This is someone
who is asking, “God, how
much are you asking me to
keep?” They think of this
life as a brief opportunity
to make a difference for the
kingdom of God over the
course of a lifetime and even
afterwards. They desire to
invest for the long-term.
Initial Giver
This is someone who decides to
give for the first time, trusting
God and the leaders of the
Church with their gift.
Consistent Giver
This is someone who decides to give on a consistent basis. It
often requires planning and an effort to set up a recurring gift
online or be disciplined in writing checks weekly.
SATURATE
WEEK ONE
FEBRUARY 21, 2016
21

RYAN WEBER
I have been a Christian for nearly 12 years. In
the beginning of my Christian walk, growth
was rapid and my desire for service was very
strong. I became involved in various kinds of
church activities like Awana, bible study and
other ministry activities primarily centered
around youth. I loved what I was doing but
I reached a point around 3 years ago where
I was no longer growing as a believer; I
was just serving as one. All of the activities
became things I had to do because that’s
what good Christians did.
I have always been a strong willed person and have always seen my relationship with Jesus as a
side-by-side kind of thing. But I began to realize that over time I would elbow Jesus out of the
picture and it just became me doing things in my strength. At that point, Jesus was no longer next
to me. I was detached from doing His will and just wanted to figure things out on my own. Living
this way left me tired and made me desperate for more in life.
I was hungry for discipleship and thirsty for real understanding of the Gospel. After I came to
Resonate about two years ago, things started to change rapidly.
22

I HAVE COME
TO SEE MY
RELATIONSHIP WITH
CHRIST NOT AS A
SIDE-BY-SIDE
RELATIONSHIP BUT
AS A “DENY
YOURSELF AND
COME FOLLOW
ME” ONE.
I would tell people it felt like I had a new life.
Through the powerful teaching I was receiving,
new opportunities to serve, and personal
discipleship through my Missional Community,
I began to understand the gospel. God has
been revealing His truths and it hasn’t stopped!
I have come to see my relationship with Christ
not as a side-by-side relationship but as a “deny
yourself and come follow me” one.
Finally, after nearly 12 years, I know what
it means to surrender my will to Him. It is
so empowering for me to let go and finally
give Christ control over my life. In light of
this, I recently left full-time private sector
employment, benefits and all, to devote more
of my time and energy to serving Him. This is
not to say that I am something great, it’s only
to say that I’m finally ready to surrender and
be part of something that is. I am more eager
today than ever to follow Christ with all that I
have and can’t wait to see what is next.
23

SCRIPTURE
[13] Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his
disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” [14] And they said, “Some
say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
[15] He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” [16] Simon Peter replied, “You
are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” [17] And Jesus answered him, “Blessed
are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my
Father who is in heaven. [18] And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build
my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. [19] I will give you the
keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in
heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” [20] Then he
strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ. [21] From that
time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer
many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the
third day be raised. Matthew 16:13-21 ESV
25

Take time to work through the following questions honestly
and write your answers here in your workbook.
1
For some people, church is an event you attend rather than a community you’re a part of or a
mission you’re committed to. In what ways are you a “consumer” of religion?
2
Is there anybody you hope would trust Jesus but you’ve lost hope for? When we lose hope for
others we forget our own faith is a great miracle. How is your faith a miracle?
3
Jesus says that to follow Him, we must deny ourselves daily. The Christian does not think “what
will you give me, Jesus” but “what must I do to follow you?” In what ways do you struggle with
denying yourself to follow Jesus?
4
The Gospel says Jesus went to the cross to absorb the wrath due to you, so you could be
saved from your sins in eternity and live a meaningful life on mission here on earth. How can
this motivate us to sacrifice for Jesus? How is that different from doing good things to get
God’s approval?
26

TAKE ACTION
What is one specific step you could take toward engaging more with God’s mission of
bringing the Gospel to the world? Think and pray about a step, then take it this week!
IDEAS
• Pray for someone in your life to know Jesus and ask God to use you somehow to
help it happen.
• Try serving one time on a team around Resonate (Setup/Teardown, Hosting,
Children’s Ministry, Street Team, etc.) email info@resonatemovement.org to express
your interest.
• Write down all the things Jesus has done for you and spend some time praying with
gratitude and asking God to change your heart.
SUMMON
WEEK TWO
FEBRUARY 28, 2016
29

TIM AND JENNY
Three and a half years ago, God moved
us from Philadelphia to Castro Valley and
prompted us to start praying for a vision
for this next chapter in our lives. We started
looking for a local church to call home but
never felt like we heard a specific calling from
the Lord. When we checked out Resonate,
we loved the church, but it wasn’t very close
to us and didn’t feel like it was part of our
community. Within a few months, Pastor
Ryan cast the vision of planting a church
in Hayward and we knew right away that
this was the vision we had been asking God
for. Not only was Hayward a practical move
for us, but we could see a clear need for Gospel redemption in this broken city. We felt newly
invigorated as we dreamt about God transforming people’s lives and how we could be a part of it.
Since moving to Hayward, we see more clearly the brokenness and struggles of this city. We
are reminded of Isaiah 53:6 which says, “We all like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—
every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” As we grow in
understanding our own brokenness and how God rescues us through Jesus, we see more clearly
how God longs for every individual in the Bay Area to gain the same hope and freedom that we
have in Christ.
30

BEING A DISCIPLE
IS INTENTIONALLY
GOING OUT OF OUR
WAY TO SHOW LOVE
TO THE PEOPLE
GOD HAS PLACED
IN OUR SPHERES OF
INFLUENCE…
Waiting for the church plant to be launched has
forced us to rethink what it means to live on
mission. It’s not about serving in every ministry
at church or inviting everyone we know to hear
a great sermon on Sunday. Being a disciple is
intentionally going out of our way to show love
to the people God has placed in our spheres
of influence with the hope that they will be
redeemed and reconciled to Jesus Christ. Most
days we fail miserably at this. We would rather
stay home than go to the park to see our
neighbors or we’re too self-conscious about
our mess to invite others over. We struggle with
guilt, fear of failure, and self-condemnation.
But thanks be to God for his rich mercy, grace, and patience with us! He chooses to use imperfect
people, made perfect through Jesus’ blood, to reach other imperfect people. To God be the glory!
31

SCRIPTURE
[20] Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered,
“The Christ of God.”
[21] And he strictly charged and commanded them to tell this to no one, [22] saying,
“The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief
priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.”
[23] And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and
take up his cross daily and follow me. [24] For whoever would save his life will lose
it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. [25] For what does it profit a
man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? Luke 9:20-25 ESV
TAKE NOTES
FOR WHAT DOES IT PROFIT A MAN IF HE GAINS THE
WHOLE WORLD AND LOSES OR FORFEITS HIMSELF
- JESUS
33

Take time to work through the following questions honestly
and write your answers here in your workbook.
1
Do you follow Jesus? What does that specifically look like in your life?
2
In Luke 9 some people say “Jesus let me do this first” before they follow Him. What things
do you want to do “first” before you follow Him? What competes with Jesus for your highest
loyalty?
3
What do you rely on to give you a sense of identity and make you a “somebody?” What makes
you feel like you are worth something? (Could be career, kids, acceptance, money, etc.)
4
How does knowing that Jesus absorbed the wrath of God for you change your sense of value?
How does it provide a different foundation for your worth and priorities?
34

TAKE ACTION
Following Jesus as His disciple is a journey. Jesus doesn’t say “if you follow me, I’ll go to the
cross for you.” He says “I went to the cross for you, so follow me.”
As we become obedient to His calling, prayerfully consider these two questions as you
continue your discipleship journey:
• What has mastery over your heart and affection?
• How can you replace this with the eternal, sacrificial, abundant love of Christ?
Write down all the things Jesus has done for you and spend some time praying with
STEWARD
WEEK THREE
MARCH 6, 2016
37

BRAD AND KARIN
Honestly, we’d be in a much more
comfortable place if it wasn’t for the
stewardship God is clearly calling us to. But,
we’re absolutely grateful that He continually
pursues us by pulling us out of our own
plans and placing us in His. But it’s hard.
Naturally, we desire security in the things
we know - financial success and status. But
we also know and believe that God calls us
to find security in Him. We’re definitely not
in the place we “want” to be when it comes
to finances; now that we have a baby on the
way we feel even more pressed. However, we
see this is a unique time where we get to trust and lean on God the most. He’s called us to generosity
and to give, not out of abundance but out of faith.
We’re committed to Resonate’s Vision to reach the unreached by planting churches by giving
sacrificially, not just leftovers or extra. This monetary sacrifice is nothing in comparison to the
steadfastness God has towards us. He continually pursues us even though we’re so slow to follow
Him. Yet we’ve found time and time again that He’s quick and faithful to be there when we call on
Him.
38

WE SEE THIS IS
A UNIQUE TIME
WHERE WE GET TO
TRUST AND LEAN ON
GOD THE MOST.
We truly believe God can use our finances
much better than we can. We’re reminded of
“The Parable of the Talents” where the servant
is rebuked for burying or storing his master’s
money (which is something we sinfully want
to do). God has been testing and molding us
to trust Him more. We’ve since adapted our
lifestyle accordingly and even though we feel
the sacrifice, we’re at the same time, able to live
with great joy.
God’s vision is so much bigger than ours and we greatly anticipate the life change in everyone
that’s reached through the church plants but also for everyone that gets to be a part of what God is
doing in the Bay Area and beyond.
SCRIPTURE
[19] “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy
and where thieves break in and steal, [20] but lay up for yourselves treasures in
heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and
steal. [21] For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
[22] “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will
be full of light, [23] but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If
then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
[24] “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the
other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God
and money. Matthew 6:19-24 ESV
HE IS NO FOOL WHO GIVES WHAT HE CANNOT KEEP TO
GAIN THAT WHICH HE CANNOT LOSE.
- JIM ELLIOT
41

Take time to work through the following questions honestly
and write your answers here in your workbook.
1
Look at your calendar or think about how you spent financially over the last seven days.
What do those days show your priorities to be?
Jesus laid down His life to pay for your sins because you are a greater treasure to Him than His
own life. How does that change your own perspective of your treasure?
3
Does God have the authority to tell you what to do with everything in your life? What areas do
you want to keep “for yourself?”
4
Is the fact that life is short and that all earthly things will fade away a reality to you?
What would be the most secure investment of your talents and resources?
5
As you consider the idea of putting God first in the way you spend your money, what do you
feel? Why do you think you might feel that way?
42

TAKE ACTION
Ask yourself: Does anyone have permission to talk to me about my lifestyle choices? About
my generosity? About my sacrificial life?
• If yes, reach out to them and ask them to have a conversation with you where you
are honest and they can lovingly challenge you.
• If not, ask yourself why, and prayerfully consider who you might open this aspect of
your life up to.
• Schedule a time this month to talk with someone about your response to this
question.
SERVE
WEEK FOUR
MARCH 13, 2016
45

BYRON AND PRISCILLA
Growing up in the “church” as a married couple,
we felt that in order to establish our relationship
with Christ we needed to tithe, serve in a
ministry, and not waste our time on unspiritual
things. We weren’t always able to obey and felt
guilty when we did not give an offering, serve
the church, or failed to attend service on Sunday.
Conversely when we did give an offering,
actively serve and attend services regularly,
our subconscious thoughts hovered on how
fortunate God was to have such good people on
His team. We were keeping score!
Through Resonate, the Holy Spirit has opened up our eyes as to what true service is. It starts with
our understanding of God’s immeasurable and unconditional love and grace for us. He has already
proven His love for us through Jesus Christ. We don’t have to prove our love for God by our works,
actions or offering. Our Christian “accomplishments” and resume are worthless! While we do not
deserve to be called children of God due to our sinful nature, we are called sons and daughters
of the King because of Jesus Christ’s death on the cross for us. With such a price paid for us, we
gladly give of our time, talents and material possessions as a response of our love for God and not
out of duty. God keeps no score!
46

WE DON’T HAVE TO
PROVE OUR LOVE
FOR GOD BY OUR
WORKS, ACTIONS
OR OFFERING.
Our goals in the remaining days of our lives
on this earth are to finish well and be servants
just as He served us. We consider it a privilege
to respond in love to the One who loves us
unconditionally and with whom we will spend
eternity.
47

SCRIPTURE
[35] And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came up to him and said to him, “Teacher,
we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.” [36] And he said to them, “What do you
want me to do for you?” [37] And they said to him, “Grant us to sit, one at your right hand
and one at your left, in your glory.” [38] Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are
asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with
which I am baptized?” [39] And they said to him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them,
“The cup that I drink you will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will
be baptized, [40] but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for
those for whom it has been prepared.” [41] And when the ten heard it, they began to be
indignant at James and John. [42] And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You
know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great
ones exercise authority over them. [43] But it shall not be so among you. But whoever
would be great among you must be your servant, [44] and whoever would be first among
you must be slave of all. [45] For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve,
and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:35-45 ESV
TAKE NOTES
YOU ARE NOT YOUR OWN; FOR YOU WERE
BOUGHT WITH A PRICE…
- APOSTLE PAUL
49

Take time to work through the following questions honestly
and write your answers here in your workbook.
1
Would you consider yourself more of a “fan” or “follower” of Jesus? Why?
2
Jesus came to rescue us from many things, including bondage to self-focus. In what ways have
you and those around you been affected by your self-focus?
3
How can understanding God’s wrath toward sin, and the fact that Jesus absorbed it for us, help
us understand the extent of God’s love for us?
4
How does seeing the way Jesus served us provide a different motivation for serving God than
“to pay Him back” or “to make Him love me?”
50

TAKE ACTION
In serving others for Christ’s sake, we serve God. If we serve others for attention,
affirmation, or to pay God back, we are really serving ourselves. Ask God to help you see
His great love for you and how He served you. Then ask Him to help you see how you can
serve someone else this week. It could be by joining the Street Ministry for a Tuesday night,
doing something around the house you don’t normally do, washing your neighbor’s car,
or checking out a ministry team at Resonate. There are countless ways you can give of
yourself to bless someone else, and God has specifically placed you in some places to be a
servant.
Take a step and serve someone this week!
SURRENDER
WEEK FIVE
MARCH 20, 2016
53

JUSTIN AND RONA
In the past, our Christian walk was, for lack
of a better term, “young”. Though we had
been exposed to facets of the Gospel, our
discipleship was very much surface level, much
more safe.
Now hearing and actually experiencing the
Gospel has shaken up and tested everything
we thought we believed, practiced, and
lived out. Our journeys got messier, more
uncomfortable, much deeper and at the same
time completely saturated in His liberating
and underserved grace. The Gospel actually
became more beautiful and awesome
and more than just an idea. God’s grace is
magnified and so much greater as we see the size and depth of our sinful nature. His love is truly
bigger than any divide caused by sin.
For us, worship is everyday practice. It’s a practice of constantly surrendering and giving everything
to God for no other intention than to glorify Him and make Him above all your stuff. The big
stuff, the little stuff, the thoughts, the emotions, the actions, the exciting stuff, the everyday
stuff. Because we’re broken people, naturally prone to selfishness, we go back and forth between
worshipping God and worshipping other things, other people, or ourselves. But the more and more
we worship God, the more His grace becomes real.
54

LIVING OUT THE
GOSPEL MEANS
THAT EVERYTHING
WE DO OR NOT DO
HERE WILL HAVE AN
ETERNAL IMPACT.
That no matter if we worshipped Him entirely
on some days, or other days we don’t, it doesn’t
change our standing or His love for us. And
that view of the Gospel right there is what
motivates us to keep worshipping Him, even as
our attempts are imperfect. It humbles us yet
gives us great confidence knowing that God
truly loves us.
Living out the gospel means that everything we do or not do here will have an eternal impact.
The gospel is true. All of it. And others need to know that everything their hearts long for is an
indication that they were made by God and for God. Everything in this world is only second best
and any self salvation plan through good works only draws us away from Christ. There’s a hope and
salvation plan that Christ laid out for us and it’s all based on His sacrificial love. How can we not be
surrendered to that?
SCRIPTURE
[13] When Joshua was by Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man
was standing before him with his drawn sword in his hand. And Joshua went to him and
said to him, “Are you for us, or for our adversaries?” [14] And he said, “No; but I am the
commander of the army of the LORD. Now I have come.” And Joshua fell on his face to the
earth and worshiped and said to him, “What does my lord say to his servant?” [15] And the
commander of the LORD’s army said to Joshua, “Take off your sandals from your feet, for
the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.
6 [1] Now Jericho was shut up inside and outside because of the people of Israel. None
went out, and none came in. [2] And the LORD said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho
into your hand, with its king and mighty men of valor. [3] You shall march around the city,
all the men of war going around the city once. Thus shall you do for six days. [4] Seven
priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. On the seventh day you
shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. [5] And
when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, when you hear the sound of the trumpet,
then all the people shall shout with a great shout, and the wall of the city will fall down flat,
and the people shall go up, everyone straight before him.” Joshua 5:13-6:5 ESV
TAKE NOTES
IN CHRIST, I CAN GIVE UP ALL THAT I HAVE BECAUSE IN
CHRIST, I HAVE ALL THAT I NEED.
57

Take time to work through the following questions honestly
and write your answers here in your workbook.
1
Which more accurately describes how you approach God: do you live in His world, or does He
live in your world?
2
Have you prayed, “Holy Spirit, tell me how I might use my time, talent, and treasure?” What’s
the most frightening response you might hear?
3
Generosity is not something God wants from us, but something He wants for us. As we let go
of our money, it loses its power over us. What keeps you from believing this?
4
If your giving to God makes a statement about His value to you in your life, what does your
statement currently say? What do you want it to say?
58

TAKE ACTION
Prayerfully review this all you’ve done through this booklet. Ask God to show you His love
for you, what steps He wants you to take in your relationship with Him, and how you can
fully surrender to Him. Many steps may come to mind, or only a few.
• Commit to take at least one step the Spirit has shown to you.
• Share that step with someone.
• Ask them to pray for, encourage, and keep you accountable to take it.
FAQS FOR SATURATE
If we are committing to Saturate, how does this
change my giving to the general fund or other
special funds such as missions or For the City
offerings?
During this two year period (April 2016 thru April
2018), every gift you bring to God through Resonate
is a contribution to the Saturate initiative. Through
the ‘one fund’ approach we are taking, all ministry
initiatives and all money supporting those initiatives
will be included as part of Saturate.
First and foremost, we want you to go before the
Lord and ask Him the question “are You really before
all things in my life, or have some things crept into
the spot that is rightfully Yours?”. Then respond
to His leading. We want 100% of those who call
Resonate home to do this. That means regardless
of your socio-economic state, we want everyone
to respond in their generosity in a way that shows
that God is before all things in your life. See the
Generosity Journey on page 19 for help. Mark your
calendar for Commitment Sunday on March 20th
and be ready to make a commitment.
Are there additional ways besides cash that I can
give more towards Saturate?
There are creative ways you might explore for
you and your family to give to Saturate. You can
60
donate stock, property (excluding vehicles), or other
valuable items. You may have stored resources e.g.
investment accounts, significant bank accounts, etc.
that God has blessed you with that He may be calling
you to give out of during this time. To donate shares
of stock, please contact financial officer at finance@
resonatemovement.org for instructions.
How long is my commitment?
We are asking that everyone make a two-year
commitment or 24 months. The fulfillment period for
your commitment will begin with our Commitment
Sunday on March 20th and will culminate by April
2018.
What if I don’t have a job right now? What does
that mean for my Saturate commitment?
Saturate is about your total, radical, sacrificial
generosity to God’s mission at Resonate. We believe
God calls us to action even in times of hardship
as much as He does in times of abundance. And
that will look different for every person. Saturate
is about a heart change that is only accomplished
by surrendering our lives completely over to God
in the area of giving. One way to participate when
there is no income, or where you have no control
over the finances of your family, is to commit to God
a percentage of all income He provides to you that
is within your control. Then watch to see what God

does as you prayerfully pursue a job or input to how
finances are used within the family. For another
person it could mean selling a possession, or doing
without a Starbucks and pastry each morning. As
you seek ways to sacrifice, God will provide a way to
meet a commitment that you may not know today
how it will be achieved.
What if I am severely in debt right now? Am I still
supposed to give?
If you are currently making payments toward debt,
we commend you for making progress toward
financial freedom and meeting your financial
obligations. We would be honored to help you on
this journey by recommending budgeting tools and
resources if that would be helpful to you.
Being in debt does not, however, mean we cannot
also be generous and sacrificial givers. Generosity
back to God is not about what God wants from you,
but what He wants for you. In fact, He doesn’t need
our money at all. But he uses this area of our lives
to help us become the disciple he desires. If you
would like to seek assistance on the road to financial
freedom, please contact us.
that is sacrificial, thereby reflecting the love of
Christ for the people around us. If you have never
given before, this is your opportunity to get in the
game with a committed sacrifice for others—to see
the mission that we believe God has given us to
be realized through personal growth, community
outreach, world missions, and a church home to
facilitate the vision.
What if I am new around here?
Saturate is about the vision for our church. We
believe that the local church is one of the most
compelling missions to be a part of, and we would
cherish having you as part of Resonate and the
vision of Saturate. If you are ready for it, this is a
perfect time for you to put a stake in the ground and
make this your church. We would love to have you on
the team!
You may have questions that aren’t answered here. If
so, look for our Information Tent in the courtyard of
American High School where you will find members
of our serve staff to assist you, or email
Marty Smith at marty@resonatemovement.org , or
info@resonatemovement.org .
What if I have never given to Resonate before?
Saturate was crafted specifically with you in mind.
This is a generosity initiative for the purpose of
seeing a lost community and even a lost world
come to a relationship with Jesus Christ. It involves
meeting needs and building relationships in a way
