The Leo Greco Lodge Project
Received a call from a friend of camp,
who wanted to do something special
to honor an incredible individual by
the name of Leo Greco. He asked for
ideas on camp needs. It was decided
a new audio/video system would be
installed in the lodge to honor Leo.
Leo was a band leader for most of his
life and is on the radio every Sunday.
So a large part of his life has been
surrounded audio, video, and music.
This project seemed most appropriate
to honor such a musically talented
man.
One can send donations to Camp
Courageous (see form on back of
newsletter), to Leo at 600 WMT
Radio, or make a secure contribution
on the camp’s web site. The goal is to
have the project done before camp’s
breakfast in April.

project. There will be a plaque in the
lodge with the names of those donating
to this project in the amounts of:

35th Annual Manchester Garage
Sale opens April 26th
The 35th annual Manchester
Garage Sale for Camp Courageous is
about to get underway. Just as Camp
Courageous has grown from 211
campers during the summer of 1974 to
over 5,000 campers year-round today,
so has the growth of the Manchester
Garage Sale.
The Manchester Garage Sale, Camp
Courageous’ largest fund raiser, is
run by over 60 volunteers. From 8:30
a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through
Friday and from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00
p.m. on Saturday, for six months out
of the year, these volunteers give of
their time to run the sale located at
913 East Main, in Manchester. The
sale will open Monday, April 26th and
will remain open until about the first
week in October. For the six months
following the sale, volunteers work
on the facilities, constantly making
improvements.
The Manchester Garage Sale has
been a win-win situation. People who
have donated their personal items to
the sale have had the opportunity to
clean house, knowing their things
will go for good use. The buyer has
the opportunity to get needed items
at a very reasonable price, and the
camp has obtained items it needs,
along with much needed financial
support, since the camp is run on
donations.
The Garage Sale is led by a very
dedicated committee. For these
ladies the sale goes year-round,
as they are constantly gathering
things, washing and mending items,
and doing whatever they can for the
betterment of Camp Courageous.
The committee includes, Marla
Schiess, Honorary Board Member
Jackie Snyder, and Vera Gienapp.

Kromminga family business continues long-standing support of Camp
Starting with Greg’s folks,
Art & Sharon Kromminga, the
Kromminga Family, and their
business, Kromminga Motors, have
been very involved in the growth of
Camp Courageous. Over the years
they have provided donations of
food, materials, equipment, art &
craft supplies, volunteered at the
omelet and pancake breakfasts,
have been involved in the Pineapple
Gala, sponsored events like the
Horse Show and the Duathlon and
so much more. On the train project,
Greg has played a key role in
providing equipment for months to
see that project succeed.
Back in the early days, Art
Kromminga was one of a small
group of Monticello Lions Club
Congratulations to
Warren Transport’s
Steven Recker who
was named 2009
Owner Operator of
the Year in a contest
sponsored by the
Truckload Carriers
Association (TCA)
and Overdrive. The
awards recognize
safety records, work histories, and community
and industry involvement. Recker has been
affiliated with Warren since 1985. He has
driven more than 2.8 million accident-free
truckload miles. He had placed as a top 10
finalist in the contest four times. In 2006,
he was selected as the Iowa Motor Truck
Association’s Driver of the Year, and he also
served a year on the IMTA Road Team. "It
takes a very special individual to stay the
course in this profession,” says Warren
President and CEO Robert Molinaro. “Steve’s
work ethic – ‘Let’s do it and do it right’ – is
a trait of Steve’s, whose large frame of over
6’3" is matched by the size and goodness
of his heart." Steve is a great volunteer and
supporter of Camp Courageous, as is Warren
Transport!

and bent the rim on a long steep hill
east of Scotch Grove. He spotted
a small bike in the front yard of a
friend and temporarily borrowed
it to complete the event. Greg’s
above and beyond resulted in Greg
receiving the Courageous Award.

Jim Metz of the Davenport Morning Optimist
shares some memories with the club of one of
their members, James E. Schick II. Jim Schick
played a key role in having the Davenport
Morning Optimist very involved in Camp
Courageous. He died at the young age of 49.
Over 1,000 people attended Jim’s visitation.
He was an incredible volunteer for so many
in need. Jim asked that his memorials go
to Camp Courageous, and the Optimist
presented those
checks to the camp
at their meeting. It
was a wonderful
opportunity for
many of us to tell
fond stories of Jim’s
adventures at camp.
This is a great loss

The Swim the Distance event to
raise money for the camp’s new
Ultra Violet system was a HUGE
success. It is due to the numerous
volunteers that the event ran as
smoothly as it did.
Thank you to the 24 swimmers
who raised a considerable amount
of money to go toward the new
UV system. It will help to equip
the camp’s indoor pool with the
latest technology in keeping the
pool water clean and pure.

Mardi Gras dance and festivities
held at Camp Courageous
On Tuesday, February 16, the Camp Courageous lodge filled with over
150 campers to celebrate Mardi Gras and “Fat Tuesday.” Campers enjoyed a
great dance, refreshments, and other entertainment throughout the evening.

event a big success.

A huge thank you to Gary Ketelsen and
camp’s friends at Ketelsen RV in Hiawatha
for having a pancake breakfast to benefit
the camp. Over $1,000 was raised and that
was matched by Ketelsens. Ketelsens also
provided camp a lot of food. Thank you to
Jim & Mary Zimmerman and Gerry Rohr for
cooking up the pancakes.
Thank you to Doc Rossmann and the Preston
Lions for a full vehicle of needed items. Doc
is a wonderful man who has been helping
camp for decades. We are grateful to both
Doc and the Lions!
A special thank you to Tom Bogenski for giving camp the opportunity to give a program to the
Cedar Valley Evening Lions (Cedar Falls/Waterloo). A great group that came out on a cold and
snowy night. We are very grateful for the 2 camperships they provided the camp!
Thank you to Don Simpson (center white sweatshirt) for giving Camp Courageous the opportunity
to give a presentation to the area Presbyterian Men’s Group near Buffalo Prairie, IL. A wonderful
group of folks who came out on a cold, windy, snowy night to learn more about Camp Courageous.
We are grateful for the churches support. Don and Marilou Simpson donated two-years of their
life to camp, living and working here daily.
The Five Seasons Jim Beam Club had their annual party... and ended-up being a huge benefit
for Camp Courageous. There was so much wonderful donations for camp that it filled two large
cars! We can't thank this group enough for over 30-years of supporting camp. We look forward
to the International Convention being held in Cedar Rapids this summer!

Board and has been active with camp for many

This winter, 15 Rice University students traveled from Huston, TX to spent their spring break volunteering at Camp
Courageous. Below is a letter we received after their visit. It starts out, “To all the dear Camp Courageous staff who have
made our Spring Break an unforgettable one:…”
The camp motto “we’re more alike than
we are different” truly reflects the dynamics
of the everlasting impact that the campers
had on us as well as our impact on them in
the short time that we were at Camp. We
are all truly blessed to have randomly come
together to embark on this wonderful rollercoaster
of fun and emotions. Everyone in
our group teared up at least once. We all
at one point shed tears of sheer happiness,
utter frustration, blissful laughter, pure
compassion, and wrenching heartache. I
think I can accurately speak for our group
when I say that our cheeks were constantly
hurting from all the ridiculous amounts of
laughter and childish giggling. You guys
probably thought we were constantly high
off of something since we giggled at almost
anything, and I mean ANYTHING.
A few of you have asked how and why
such a group of college students randomly
decided to travel from a large, bustling,
pollution-spewing city to a small, placid,
crisp-aired town to spend a mere 5 days
at a camp during what we Rice Owls call
ASB (and yes, Mark, we really do like to
use acronyms for everything we say). My
answer: I don’t know. Fate? Salome and I
actually didn’t even know of each other’s
existence until the director of Rice’s CIC
(Civic Involvement Center) recommended
us to each other in September since we both
shared similar interests in working with
special needs individuals in a camp setting
during our Spring Break. It was like being set
up on a blind date with us two knowing only
each other’s names and general interests.
After a month of preliminary planning and
searching, we happened to come across
“Camp Courageous of Iowa” in our Google
search. We were hesitant at first to confirm
our decision, considering how the other 10
ASB trips were traveling to big cities like LA,
NYC, Philly, New Orleans, and even some
exotic island off the coast of California, all
these bustling cities that any college student
would be stoked to explore. The little town
of Monticello up in Iowa, however, had
never crossed our minds. With virtually all
of us from big cities like Atlanta, Houston,
and LA, venturing into a small town was
like trying out a foreign food: we poked
and prodded to find out anything interesting
about it (we were honestly concerned when
Google listed a canoe rental place, an 8-lane
bowling alley, and a campground as the
top attractions), wanted to try it but was
constantly pulled away by the idea of a larger
city, but then absolutely falling in love with
it after taking our chances. It wasn’t until we
officially submitted our trip destination and
details to the CIC that shaped our nebulous
proposition into reality.
It must have been extremely strange for
you, Shannon, to hear my voice on the other
line asking about accommodating a group of
15 Rice students for a week. I am eternally
grateful to you for being so patient with all
my questions and requests and for helping us
transform a desire into a priceless experience
that many of us are sure to repeat. Many of
us were rather apprehensive about working
with the campers during the orientation and
while studying the campers’ files. However,
like you said, a person is not a diagnosis;
rather, each camper is a unique being that
cannot and should not be subjected to a
mold of society’s misconceptions and
preconceptions.
An observation that truly hit home for all
of us after working at camp was realizing
every one of you staff member’s strength and
sincere selflessness. You are all so devoted
to your work and spending your lives to
make differences in the lives of others. Most
of us have never helped special individuals
with their personal needs and truly found this
an eye-opening experience. We have found
a new respect for you and the families and
friends of these campers, since taking care
of a disabled person is a feat that many of us
can never imagine doing for the rest of our
lives. It is only out of pure love and genuine
compassion can one find the strength and will
to care for someone like your own beloved
child. We applaud each and every one of
you for all that you do and the devotion and
love that so apparently emanate from your
every action. This camp experience has
contributed to our deeper understanding of
civic responsibility and growth in spiritual
fulfillment. As young college students pitted
against the demanding standards of the Rice
culture, we constantly find ourselves caught
up in striving to write that perfect paper, or
ace the next biochemistry exam, or be the
next Einstein. It is easy to become entangled
in our own petty problems and to lose touch
with reality and the community. Camp
has opened up our eyes to what’s beyond
our oak tree lined roads and the perfectly
trimmed hedges and manicured lawns. A
few of us have never worked with special
needs individuals before, so this experience
has made the concepts of civic duty and
social understanding more tangible.

A few of us were slightly disappointed and
nervous about working with adults instead
of children, especially adults who were
twice our age. We just didn’t know what to
expect since most of us have only worked
with children. We knew that it would be
more physically and emotionally demanding
working with adults since they typically have
more medical and personal needs. However,
as the week progressed, our anxieties quickly
dissolved as we realized that we could more
easily relate to the campers since their daily
lives seemed just as complex as ours. Many
hold jobs, experience relationship problems,
fight and argue with parents, experience
roommate conflicts, find it difficult to
express themselves, and some join in on
the counselors’ conversations (whether they
verbally chime in or just show a simple smile
or other gesture).
We all knew before coming to Iowa that
we would be changed in some little way or
another, just as all other ASBers do. Many
of us thought it would be the typical come
in and commit to a week of service work,
form bonds with people in our ASB group,
impact the community a bit, and then leave
knowing we did some good. Typing up
description sheets of our service at Camp
and other pre-trip preparation does no justice
to what we all experienced. How can simple
words on paper convey the complexity of
emotions and social dynamics that we each
experienced? By the second day at Camp,
we already felt right at home among all of
you. None of us had expected to form such
amazing friendships with not only each other,
but also with each of you and the campers. In
just 5 days, we all learned the importance of
certain virtues such as endurance, patience,
compassion, and tolerance.
Witnessing and being direct causes of the
campers’ laugher and smiles gave us all a
warm feeling of happiness and satisfaction.
We were able to see beyond the campers’
disabilities and instead focus on their
abilities and unique personalities. It was

Dear Charlie & All,
Enclosed in this box are 10 blankets that I made
for the campers at Camp Courageous to enjoy. These
are one of two boxes. The other box will have 11
blankets. I would like to share the story of these 21
blankets.
Our granddaughter, Katelyn, was born on March
13, 1989, and appeared to be perfect in every way.
She lived on this earth a mere 18 days and went back
to be with her heavenly Father. There were only three
days of any of us knowing there was a problem and
in those three days one can only imagine the many
prayers that were going out for her and our family.
Now for our granddaughter Katelyn’s 21st birthday
coming on March 13, 2010, I wanted to do something
special to commemorate it. One was crocheting
21 sets of newborn baby blankets and caps, and
sending it to a special hospital (which is Iowa City
and the nurse in charge of dispersing them is Arlene
Derwin Klesner in the Neonatal Unit, of whom you
are familiar with her and her family). Another was
to crochet 21 sweaters for the Sweaters for Kids and
sending it to the Guidepost Foundation/World Vision.
And now the 21 fleece blankets coming to you. All of
which I have now accomplished, with the grace of
God, as that special birthday present.
That little life of only 18 days has gone on and
on to share in so many special projects and this was
happening right from the start with her parents starting
grieving support groups for parents in to many areas
of where they lived as they were in the military.

extremely rewarding to see LeAnn overcome
her anxiety of skiing and so rewarding to
have her trust me. Amanda opened up to Arthi
more as the week progressed and they started
to hold more personal conversations. Lindus
and Albert formed such a close trust system
that they seemed inseparable. Albert was able
to develop a communication system with
Lindus, especially when selecting food during
mealtimes. Sara became less pessimistic and
grouchy as the days passed by and I was
eventually able to joke around with her.
Before, Sara had refused to participate in any
activity. Salome, Stacy, and I were brimming
with happiness when she finally asked for a
marker so she could color during arts and craft
time or when she asked for a counselor to help
her with canoeing. Rob was brave walking
outside at night with all the ice on the ground
and Bryant surely pulled his fair share of
pranks. David blamed Mr. Grinch for having
Backstreet Boys on 24/7, but I’m sure that
we all secretly know that he’s just obsessed
himself. I know everyone simply adored Bill
and his cute smiles, sweet dance moves, and
awesome COWBOY BOOTS! Some of the
campers were more Texan than we are! I don’t
think we’ve ever heard anyone proclaim “I’m
a cowboy” so religiously in one day. I loved
how James and Mike always somehow ended
up a table over in my group just hanging
out with us girls. Danny and Michael, they
obviously enjoyed our company more than
yours. I’m pretty sure we were all addressed
as “honey” one time or another, since Cindy
Moore was like the sweet-talking grandma
of the group. Angel absolutely loved talking
about horses; I don’t think I’ve ever heard so
many stories about rodeos and horses in my
life. Leroy was undeniably the rad rockstar of
the group, busting out his dance moves every
chance he had and banging that awesome hair.
Seeing these little snippets of the campers’
personalities never ceased to make us smile
and laugh. Being able to impart so much
happiness in the campers with every one of
you counselors is very rewarding. What we
have all done together in the past week, and
what you all continue to do this week and
beyond, is more than just an experience: we
have all made lasting relationships that we
could never imagine losing.
It’s a shame that right when we all started
growing close to you guys, each other, and to
the campers the week was over. Then again,
perhaps that’s what an ASB trip does to you –
it throws you into an entirely new setting with
entirely new people, and just before you start
assimilating into this different environment, it
pulls you away, leaving you with a desire to
return.

Camp Courageous' Indoor Swimming Pool is very proud to once again be the home of the
Monticello Winter Swim Team. The team was bigger and better this year, qualifying many local
kids for state and regional competitions. In March these athletes competed in the state meet held
in Marshalltown and the team did very well. Congratulations to all of them!

The Manchester Knights of Columbus are
continuing their support of Camp Courageous
and their work with individuals with disabilities.
District Deputy Ray Marbach (R) and Grand
Knight Phil Turnis (L) recently visited Camp
Courageous to present a check to the camp.
A warm thank you to the Monticello Sacred
Heart Knights of Columbus Council 1821 for
their years of support and recent donation to
Camp Courageous. (L-R) Nick Miller, Doug

Manternach.
Thank you to Jerry Tegels, Grand Knight of
Msgr. J.M. Hanson Council 5038 in Ankey for
their wonderful donation. The Ankeny Knights
of Columbus have been long time supporters
of the camp. We thank all Knights for their
support of Camp Courageous.
Deputy Grand Knight Steve Kueter from
Coggon represents the the North Linn
Knights of Columbus Council 12136 with the
donation of another generous check to Camp
Courageous of Iowa. The proceeds from this
check was earned from their annual Tootsie
Roll drive that was held in October. Camp
really appreciates the dedication of the North
Linn KC's all who purchased Tootsie Rolls
from them!
Scott Schroeder with the Mechanicsville
Knights of Columbus #13426 stopped by
camp to make a generous donation. This
group has been giving to camp for several
years. Camp is very thankful for their hard
work and generosity.
Thank you to Eilertson Inc. out of Fond du
Lac WI...they are donating several semi loads
of cedar and pine to the camp. They will
be setting-up an outside saw mill at Camp's
Weepie Addition to cut the boards to any
size camp desires. Excess will be used for
fire wood. Thank you to Butch Krug from
Wisconsin and Jerry Draves from Monticello.

Camp Courageous board member Steve
Supple traveled to Dubuque to accept a check
from the SAM's Club #4973. Steve gave a
short presentation to the employees on camp
and how it will benefit from this generous
donation. Many thanks to the Dubuque SAM's
Club and to Steve.
Thank you to Bob & Charlotte George of
Anamosa for this gift of a beautiful Ox Yoke
for the Sill Barn, along with some antique
lanterns for the Lions Train Depot. Bob &
Charlotte are long time supporters of Camp
Courageous and our friendship was a result
of Dotty Ireland Cummins, who proudly called
Anamosa home.
Here are two folks that are an absolute
delight! Some people bring so much joy into
the lives of others, and these two certainly do
that exceptionally well. They are Lee (Jordan)
and Sam Carstens of Ames. They have been
exceptional promoters of the camp's fruitcakes
and so much more. With every letter and
e-mail from Lee and Sam, much joy is brought
to Camp Courageous. We are very honored
to have them as friends of the camp....and
they are dear friends of other camp friends,
like Burr McFarland and Pastor Fred Lewis.

The camp is grateful to Todd Merfeld, Store
Manager of the Sherwin-Williams Store at
1000 Iowa Street in Dubuque, for taking
time out of his busy schedule to stop by and
see first-hand what Camp Courageous is all
about. Todd has been familiar with camp from
living in Cedar Falls, Manchester, and now
being located in Dubuque. Todd and Sherwin-
Williams will provide the paint for the lodge
remodeling project. We are grateful for all that
Todd does for Camp Courageous, the scouts,
and so many other worthy projects.
A big thanks to Stutsmans from Hills Iowa
for stepping up and sending two pallets of
softener salt for the camp’s water treatment
system. The camp appreciates Stutsmans
willingness to donate supplies that are vital to
the infrastructure of our camp and have done
it for years.

RENTAL OPPORTUNITIES AT CAMP COURAGEOUS
Camp is available for rental when not in use
by campers. Facilities include indoor swimming
pools, gym, lodge, cabins, nature center,
beautiful rustic Sill barn and several other
buildings. Camp Courageous is an ideal setting
for any meeting, family reunion, retreat,
reception, workshop or seminar. Be it a daylong,
weekend, or week-long program; consider

Ohnward Banks have utilized the camp’s “Board Room” for their luncheon meetings on a number
of occasions… which camp has appreciated. At this particular meeting, they asked for a tour of
the camp before their lunch and meeting. The group was so pleased with what they saw that they
collected among themselves a wonderful donation, above and beyond the rental for the board
room. A great group we are thankful to.

Camp can’t thank Dan Lynch enough, for his

campers and staff!
We had another terrific group of physical
therapy students from the University of Iowa
this semester. These students jump right
into the camp activities and are amazing
volunteer counselors. Camp Courageous is
lucky to have a relationship with such a great
program. Thanks to Rachel Kowalczyk, Laura
Sawatzke, Lindsay Gassman, Jenny Kirstein,
Bri Clarahan and Katie Niebuhr.
Travel Program takes a musical journey through Memphis, TN
Pictured is the entire group that enjoyed a
recent trip to Memphis, TN as part of the
Camp Courageous Travel Program. This
particular trip was an “assisting” trip that allows
individuals in wheelchairs to participate.

Fareway Stores and Camp Courageous teamed up for…
Cases For Camp
During this year’s ‘Cases for Camp’ event,
camp supporters donated a…
record
184 cases!!
The goal was to break 150 cases, but thanks to the efforts of
everyone the previous year’s record was surpassed!! Thank you
to those who participated and to the Fareway Stores that help
make this happen. Fareway provides these cases at cost and the
camp will be able to redeem these purchased cases throughout
the year for the over 5,000 campers attending.
Thanks to Al, Sheri and Riley Glew of Sherrill,
IA and Martha, Courtney and Rex Dawson
of Iowa City. The Glews and Dawsons were
among the first of the Give a Day, Get a Disney
Day volunteers. They spent an afternoon at
camp cleaning basements. Not glamorous
work, but important nonetheless. Thanks
guys!

Courageous in the hearts and minds

How can you help?
The camp is amazed at the many ways that supporters have helped make the dream of
Camp Courageous a reality. Many have contacted the camp asking how they or their
group can help. Below are just a few suggestions on how you can help the camp:
Make a Financial Gift
You can make a financial gift to the camp using the
form on the back page of this newsletter. Payment can
be made with a personal check or credit card (VISA,
MasterCard, or Discover). In general, donations to the
camp will be tax deductible to many. However, you
will need to contact your tax advisor to determine the
deductibility of your contributions. You can make your gift
in memory of or in honor of an individual(s) or occasion.
An acknowledgement about your gift can be sent to the
individual(s) if you provide an address.
Volunteering
Nothing is more valuable than your time and we
would appreciate your gift of time helping the camp.
Help is needed from cutting grass to working with
campers. Individuals, groups, clubs, and organizations
are welcome.

Vehicle Donations
Do you have a car, truck, or RV that
you’d like to donate to Camp Courageous? Please contact
the camp or visit the camp’s web site for information on
how you can donate your vehicle.
If you are donating your vehicle so it can be sold to
allow the camp to benefit from its sale, then please review
the V-DAC program. Due to the IRS laws, the easiest way
to donate a vehicle that is to be liquidated is through

Riley Train Depot Plaque
Tom and Nan Riley donated a train to camp to thrill
thousands of campers! The track and depot are installed
and built. Many camp and/or train enthusiasts have
asked, “How can we help?” We will continue to have
workdays to work on landscaping around the track and
depot. A special railcar designed by Iowa State University
Mechanical Engineering students to accommodate the
many needs of Camp Courageous campers has arrived.
Expenses for this railcar and the overall project still needs
to be covered.
The name, or the wording of choice, will appear on
the plaque in the depot for all $1,000 donors. Use the

the Mission Fish
Do you sell on eBay? You can donate
a percentage of your auctions to the
camp through eBay’s Mission Fish
program. 10% to 100% of your auction can go to Camp
Courageous of Iowa through this charity program.
It’s a great way to promote your auctions since visitors
will see (through a special icon) that part of their payment
goes to a great charity. To participate, simply use the charity
option as you list your items on eBay. For additional details
and information you can visit eBay and click on the “Giving
Works” link on their home page.
Used Laser/Ink Cartridges & Phones
Camp can redeem used laser printer toner cartridges,
used inkjet cartridges, and used cell phones for cash.

United Way (Donor Option)
Even though Camp Courageous of Iowa
is not a United Way agency, we strongly encourage those
that give to the United Way to choose “Camp Courageous

Camp has been fortunate to have donors from New
York City to San Francisco give through the United Way
Donor Option.
Pool Blocks
The Camp Courageous indoor pool was built one block
at a time. Over the past few years it has become one of
the more popular activities for the campers. You can help
support this activity by buying a pool block for $1,000.

welcome to rolando Morales
as Camp’s new travel director
Rolando first joined the Camp
Courageous team during the summer
of 2008 as a camp counselor. It soon
became apparent that Rolando was a
natural when it came to connecting
with campers. He also related well
with staff and had a gift for motivating
others. His gregarious personality,
genuine concern for others and natural
leadership skills shone. With two years
prior experience working in Europe with
Camp Adventure as Camp Director and
Project Coordinator, Rolando possessed
a wealth of experience before he
embraced Camp Courageous.
And embracing Camp Courageous
is just what he did. He returned as the
swimming specialist for the summer of
2009. His work ethic was evident as he
life guarded, helped campers in the pool
area, willingly tackled any cleaning
task and assisted with leading evening
programs.
As Travel Director he will be able to
mesh his love for all people especially
those with special needs, his passion
for travel and his administration skills.
Camp is fortunate to have Rolando
available just when we need him. He
completes his Masters in Leisure, Youth
and Human Services in May which
compliments his BA in Psychology.
We are all thrilled to have him become
a year-round member of the Camp
Courageous staff.

Where is Camp Courageous located?
The camp is located five miles south of Monticello,
Iowa off Highway 38 or 151. The camp lies on 80 acres
of wooded land surrounded by thousands of acres of
state primitive land and the Maquoketa River. Use US
Highway 151 exit 65, turn south on Hwy 38, then east
on 190th Street (all hard-surfaced IOWA roads).
