COMPUTER SCIENCE INSTRUCTOR
Ms. Roche has been teaching for 18 years, since 1998. Her
decision on becoming a teacher was based on how she
always liked her teachers when she was in school. There
was rarely a teacher that she didn’t like. When students
hit hard obstacles, Ms. Roche invites them to stay after
school and spend extra time working on something until
they are able to comprehend the skill. By the end of the
year, Ms. Roche hopes to improve students’ collaboration
and communication skills so they can easily create the
materials they need independently for High School.
Outside of school, she enjoys camping, going to the
beach, traveling, doing crafts with friends, and is also a
big fan of cats! If Ms. Roche weren’t a teacher, she would
be working with naturopathic medicine (different uses for
therapy / use of natural medicine), or maybe own a small
coffee shop!

What’s your Story?
By Ivy McDorman/Farrell
This year has definitely
been one the most
interesting years of my life.
Everyone has drama
squeezed into her life
somewhere, right? It’s either
middle school drama or
family drama--or it could
always be something else!
Some of the drama I’ve
had this year is friend
trouble. I mean who doesn’t
have that kind of drama
eventually.
What I’m thinking is
maybe you can write down
some of your drama
stories and sign your name,
or if you don’t want to sign
your name, you can sign
anonymously. Give the
story to Ms. Roche. I can
add your story into my
next article!
I’ll sum it up….
What’s your Story? continued…
1. Write your story and
sign your name or write
anonymous
( make sure to write if you
want me to type your story
or not)
2. Give your story to Ms.
Roche
3.Your story might get
picked to get written in the
newspaper
All About Penguins
By Adam Goncalves
Penguins are flightless birds
that live in the southern
hemisphere, especially in
Antarctica. There are
seventeen kinds or species.
Some live in warm climates.
They eat fish, squid, and krill.
Penguins have also been
known to live in huge
colonies. However, they face
predators. Chicks face skuas,
sheathbills, dogs, cats, rats,
pigs, and seagulls. Adult
penguins don’t need to worry
about those, but they do
worry about fur seals, sea
lions, killer whales, leopard
seals, and sharks. Other
seals and whales are
friendly, and they will hang
out with penguins. Some
penguins will face oil spills,
loss of food, and hunting.
However, some people have
put them in zoos, aquariums,
and marine parks. People
have loved penguins so they
stopped hunting them.
The penguin families are:
Crested Penguins:Fiordland
penguin, snares penguin,
erectcrested penguin,royal
penguin,rockhopper penguin
(3 or 4 kinds),and macaroni
penguin.
Banded penguins:
Magellanic
penguin,galapagos
penguin,african penguin, and
humboldt penguin.
Brush tailed penguins: Adelie
penguin,chinstrap
penguin,and gentoo penguin.
Large penguins:King penguin
and emperor penguin.
Other penguins:Yelloweyed
penguin,little penguin,and
white flippered penguin.
There are so many facts and
information about penguins
that there will always be
something new to learn.

Project 351: Uxbridge’s 2016 Ambassador
Project 351 is a youth service statewide, non-profit organization
inspired by the vision of a Commonwealth united in common purpose
and bound by shared values of kindness and compassion. Project 351
partners with educators, private sector and civic leaders, families, and
volunteers to achieve its mission of spreading the importance of service
to young people, and specifically, 8th graders. Every year since 2011,
educators in all 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts select an eighth
grader to represent their community based on displaying the values of
kindness, compassion, humility, and gratitude, and are known as
“Ambassadors.”
The Ambassador selected for Uxbridge in 2016 was Kieler Langemo. On
Saturday, January 16, Kieler and the rest of the Ambassadors from
across the Commonwealth were sent to Boston on a chartered Peter Pan
bus to celebrate their selection in a day of service, known as Launch
Day. Upon arrival, Ambassadors entered historic Faneuil Hall to meet
with their service teams, comprised of 10 Ambassadors and led by an
Alumni Leadership Council (ALC) member (an Ambassador from a
previous year). At Faneuil Hall, students were able to hear from guest
speakers such as Governor Charlie Baker, Lisa Hughes (WBZ News
Anchor), and James Gallagher, Executive Vice President of John
Hancock financial services. Following Faneuil Hall, Ambassadors were
sent to individual service sites, which were Pine Street Inn, Greater
Boston Food Bank, Cradles to Crayons, Service Village, and Inquilinos
Boricuas en Acción (IBA). Kieler and his service team went to IBA, an
organization that expands opportunities for youth arts, culture, and
education in Boston. While there, Ambassadors created hot cocoa mix in
mason jars for those less fortunate and painted murals of Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr. At the end of the day, everyone met up at the John F.
Kennedy Presidential Library for a meeting hosted by Charlie Rose and
Senator Seth Moulton. There was also a reception where Ambassadors
could talk with new friends and eat.
An important part of Project 351 is knowing that Launch Day is not all, it
is just the beginning in an Ambassador’s life of service. Coming up,
Project 351 and Kieler Langemo will conduct a spring service in support
of Cradles to Crayons. More information will be sent in the spring.
Harry Potter: What
Position Would You
Play In Quidditch?
Quidditch is a rave sport in
the wizarding world, but
have you ever wondered
what position you would
play? Take this quiz to find
out!
1) A person you know is
being bullied, you: A)
defend your friend B)
Punch the bully C)
Run away D)
Challenge the bully
2) You just happen to
find $1,000,000.
What do you decide to
spend the money on?
A) a new car B) a
computer game C) a
development project
D) nothing
3) Earth, water, fire, or
air?
4)Favorite movie? A)
Rocky B) The Hunger
Games C) Treasure Island
D) Fast and Furious
5) You see an old man. A
person attempts to steal
from him. You… A) fight
him B) chase him C)
Results: (this works as it
did last time)
B= Beater C= Chaser S=
Seeker K= Keeper
1) A= K B=B C=S D=K
2) A=C B=S C=B D=K
3) 3) A=B B=K C=C D=S
4) 4
5) 5) A=B B=C C=K D=S
The Results: If you got
mostly Ks you most likely
would play as a Keeper. In
Quidditch, these are the
people that defend the three
hoops at the end of the
pitch (field). You use your
hands and body to try and
keep the red ball-the
quaffle-from passing
through them.
If you got mostly Bs you
would most likely be a
Beater. In Quidditch these
are the two people that
defend their team from the
bludgers, two soccer ball
sized iron spheres that
magically fly around and
slam the nearest player.
You hold a piece of wood
much like a tough baseball
bat and slam the balls away
if they come near.
If you got mostly Cs you
would most likely be a
Chaser. In Quidditch these
are the people that try to get
the quaffle through the
hoops.
If you got mostly Ss than
you are Quidditch’s most
important position: the
seeker. The snitch is an
extremely fast flying gold
ball that if caught gains
your team an astonishing
150 points! It is your job to
catch this ball-a very hard
task. Good luck!
Thanks for taking this
month’s Harry Potter quiz!
