As the fourth Archbishop of San Salvador,<br />
I upheld the human rights of the poorest and<br />
most vulnerable people. I defended the principles<br />
of protecting life and promoting human dignity.<br />
I opposed all <strong>for</strong>ms of violence.<br />
I am Jean Vanier<br />
born 1928<br />
I founded L’Arche in 1964, an international<br />
federation of communities <strong>for</strong> people with<br />
disabilities. In 1971, I co-founded Faith and<br />
Light, with Marie-Hélène Mathieu, which<br />
also works <strong>for</strong> people with disabilities, their<br />
families and friends in over 80 countries. I<br />
live as a member of the original L’Arche<br />
community in France.
