I am Maximilian Kolbe
1894 – 1941
I was a Polish Franciscan friar, who provided
shelter to Jewish refugees during World War II.
I was arrested and sent to the German death
camp of Auschwitz. There I volunteered to die
in place of a man who had been randomly
chosen with 9 others. This man was weeping
for his wife and child. I felt great mercy for him.
I am Mary Glowery
1887 – 1957
I graduated from Melbourne University as a
Medical Doctor in 1919. I was the first president
of the Catholic Women’s Social Guild (now
Catholic Women’s League). In 1920 I went to India
to minister to the poor. There I entered the
Society of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, a Dutch order
of nuns and spent the next 37 years involved with
medical missionary work in Guntur, India.
