Hail Holy Queen
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of
mercy, hail, our life, our
sweetness and our hope. To
thee do we cry, poor banished
children of Eve: to thee do we
send up our sighs, mourning
and weeping in this vale of
tears. Turn then, most gracious
Advocate, thine eyes of mercy
toward us, and after this our
exile, show unto us the blessed
fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O
merciful, O loving, O sweet
Virgin Mary! Amen.
Faces of Mercy
Art work in the main corridor is being worked on in the classes to celebrate
those who have shown mercy. We are calling these heroic people the
‘Faces of Mercy”. We’ll be using these people to inspire us to follow Pope
Francis’ call to have hearts full of love and mercy. Please help by singing
our Jubilee of Mercy song which you can find here:
www.smi.hounslow.sch.uk/the-jubilee-of-mercy.html. You can read information
about the 7 people we have chosen on the next few pages.

Year 3 Round Houses
As part of our learning about The Iron Age, the Year 3 children made some
round houses using clay as a base and then wove paper around wooden or straw
struts. The roof was made from a paper circle that was folded into a cone and
covered in tissue paper.
They worked really well in
pairs and had a great time.

I am Caroline Chisholm
1808 – 1877
I came to Australia from England in 1838. I set
up a home in Sydney for young women who
were arriving without any money, friends or
family or jobs to go to, and organised other
homes in several rural centres. The home was
soon extended to help families and young
men. During the seven years I was in Australia
I placed over 11,000 people in homes and
jobs.

I am Maximilian Kolbe
1894 – 1941
I was a Polish Franciscan friar, who provided
shelter to Jewish refugees during World War II.
I was arrested and sent to the German death
camp of Auschwitz. There I volunteered to die
in place of a man who had been randomly
chosen with 9 others. This man was weeping
for his wife and child. I felt great mercy for him.
I am Mary Glowery
1887 – 1957
I graduated from Melbourne University as a
Medical Doctor in 1919. I was the first president
of the Catholic Women’s Social Guild (now
Catholic Women’s League). In 1920 I went to India
to minister to the poor. There I entered the
Society of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, a Dutch order
of nuns and spent the next 37 years involved with
medical missionary work in Guntur, India.

I am Oscar Romero
1917 – 1980
As the fourth Archbishop of San Salvador,
I upheld the human rights of the poorest and
most vulnerable people. I defended the principles
of protecting life and promoting human dignity.
I opposed all forms of violence.
I am Jean Vanier
born 1928
I founded L’Arche in 1964, an international
federation of communities for people with
disabilities. In 1971, I co-founded Faith and
Light, with Marie-Hélène Mathieu, which
also works for people with disabilities, their
families and friends in over 80 countries. I
live as a member of the original L’Arche
community in France.

I am Mother Teresa
1910 – 1997
Although Albanian, I lived most of my life in India
where I was devoted to serving the poorest of the
poor. I founded the Missionaries of Charity to run
hospices and homes for people with HIV/AIDS,
leprosy and tuberculosis; soup kitchens;
dispensaries and mobile clinics; children’s and family
counselling programmes, orphanages and schools.
I am Pope Francis
born 1936
As Pope, I teach that our Church should be
more open and welcoming; that we must
reveal the merciful face of God. I have put
mercy into action by establishing a large
dormitory for the homeless of Rome as well
as public bathrooms and showers for them.
I have welcomed Syrian refugee families to live
in the Vatican City.

Dear Parent/Career,
Measuring the height and weight of children in Reception Year and Year 6
The NHS needs to have a good understanding of how children are growing across the country, so that the
best possible advice and support can be provided for them and their families. As a result, all children in
England in Reception and Year 6 have their height and weight checked each year.
Your child’s class will take part in this year’s measurement programme. We understand that some
children will not be able to use our standard weighing and measuring equipment, however we would still
like to offer the opportunity for them to take part in this programme. We will work in partnership with the
schools and where possible, use specialised weighing and measuring equipment the schools have
available.
The measurement will be supervised by trained staff from your local NHS Community Healthcare Trust.
The measurements will be done in a private area away from other pupils. Children who take part will be
asked to remove their shoes, and will be weighed in normal indoor clothing. Any cultural needs will be
respected.
Routine data, such as your child’s name, sex, address, postcode, ethnicity and date of birth, will also be
collected to help the NHS plan services for families. This information will then be used within the local
authority and NHS to help us understand and plan interventions for weight-related problems in children
in your area. The records of children’s height and weights will be made anonymous before being
submitted for analysis at a national level. All information and results will be treated confidentially. No
child’s height or weight will be given to school staff or other children.
After the measurement, we will send you your child’s results, as well as general advice on healthy eating
and being active approximately 8 weeks after the measurements have been taken if your child’s weight is
above a healthy weight.
Children will not be made to participate if they do not want to and if you do not wish your child to take
part please inform the school nursing team on the number below within two weeks of getting this letter.
More information about the National Child Measurement Programme and tips on healthy lifestyle can be
obtained from the following websites:
About Mini Music-Makers
Children are taught by specialist music teachers to make music through
singing and playing instruments. Melody and percussion instruments are
integrated with favourite songs and well-known nursery rhymes.
The Early Music programme will gradually introduce stringed instruments, in
particular the violin, and this instrument will become the focus of musical
learning for each child.
There are established pathways within the Music Service for children to grow
and develop as musicians throughout all of their school years, and our Mini
Music-Makers programme is the basis of this journey.
