Key West is renowned for its laid back atmosphere and as a destination for fishing, boating and scuba diving, and is also home to the Ernest Hemingway Exhibition. Generally, fishing, boating, kayaking and water boarding enthusiasts will delight in the many opportunities the sunshine state has to offer. For those interested in human space flight, just an hour’s easy drive from Orlando on the Atlantic coast is Merritt Island, home to Kennedy Space Centre from where brave explorers ventured to the Moon on the famous Apollo missions and later 135 Space Shuttle launches. I have been lucky enough over the years to enjoy much of what Florida has to offer, but have to say that experiencing three launches and one return to Earth is hard to beat. Just a day at the Centre gives an interesting and educational overview of the whole space programme, including the International Space Station and the Hubble Telescope and of course it now houses the shuttle Atlantis in a remarkable exhibit for all to see.
