All of Devon!
Keeping an eye on the flock
There’s great news in this landmark
issue of Devonshire magazine.
‘DOG POWER’
Taking photos at Yellingham Farm recently,
a place with many dogs in residence, it
struck home just how much our four
legged friends manage to fit into our
human world, neatly emphasised by
Janetʼs sheep dogs making themselves
useful, taking it upon themselves to
round up some errant sheep. When
you consider all the different jobs they
undertake for us, itʼs quite staggering,
drugs detection, guiding, tracking,
guarding, rescue, health diagnosis,
modelling, acting (yes -let us not forget
the immortal ʻLassieʼ), the list goes on
and on. Of course, theyʼre also our nicest
companions, always happy to share our
pork scratchings down the pub!
DEVONSHIRE
In this issue, John Fisher looks into the
lives of two famous women who lived several
doors apart at Exmouth - Lady Nelson and
Lady Byron. I take you on a photographic
excursion to Thurlestone and Burgh Island,
with Thurlestone Hotel being featured in our
March is a busy time for barn owls
by Hanneke Coates
Staycation. We also explore Devon’s Green
Man, a pagan symbol that repeatedly can be
found in churches across Devon, brought to
you by writer Ian Parsons. And Janet East
from Yellingham Farm talks about Daisy
and her new arrival Henry. As ever, our
extensive events calendar is brought to you
by the HubCast network of websites that now
operate across every region of Devon.
After all the rain and mud of January, it’s
wonderful to contemplate the onset of Spring.
Scouring through old seed catalogues,
checking through fishing tackle, greasing
chains, etc, all stuff that can be done whilst
waiting for the green explosion of April and
May. We’re so lucky to live in Devon, it’s all
here on our doorstep, beautiful coastlines
and countryside. Let Devonshire magazine
help you discover the hidden gems lurking
amongst the 2,500+ square miles!
