We all know that Exeter’s one cool
city, deep countryside a few miles
outside, but all the facilities and
amenities at hand in what has to be
the most intimate city in England.
There are many reasons to visit
Exeter, shopping is excellent with
all the main brands and stores in
town. Dining’s equally great and
and whistles such as mood lighting
switch arrays, excellent bathing
facilities, elegant large windows, etc.
The bed was luxuriously large and
comfortable, happily ensuring a good
night’s sleep. Outside the room and
on the ground floor, there are some
funky spaces, such as the airy lounge
area that’s a new addition to the back
of the building as is the dining area
Framboise Martini and Mootiny on
the Bounty - absolutely delicious,
particularly liked the innocently
presented Mootiny. Top marks!
Food was modern, interesting,
visually appetising and most
importantly, delicious, with a cleverly
thought-out menu, they’re certainly
on top of their game. It’d be hard
to find any reason to venture out of

pomegranate and coriander seeds
MC’s puddings are delicious,
delicate and light
varied or you may be coming to
town for the theatre. Our Overnight
Stay features the Magdalen Chapter,
located in the old Victorian Eye
Infirmary. It’s a characterful and
imposing building that makes for a
great hotel, being grand inside and
out. Our stay was in one of their
ʻfeature’ rooms which was luxurious
and spacious, having all the bells
which is a modern, chic place to enjoy
your food. Pre dinner, was enjoyed
in the bar over several cocktails, and
what cocktails they turned out to be.
There’s always a worry that you get
the ʻusual’ fruit juice with a bit of
spirit thrown in, but here I have to
say we were mightily impressed with
the sophistication and flavour of our
selection: Blueberry Bellini, Chocolat
the hotel, particularly in the evening
with the standard of cuisine coming
from the kitchen, combined with the
great ambiance of the hotel.
If you’re coming to town for the
weekend, it’s a great place to stay
and can recommend it fully. Don’t
