LOST
FOR THOSE OF US WITH EMPTY POCKETS, TRAVELING
OFTEN CAPITULATES INTO NOTHING MORE THAN A
INTANGIBLE DREAM. WELL, I DIDN?T WANT JUST A
DREAM ANYMORE. I WANTED TO FEEL FULFILLED, TO
HAVE A MEMORY I COULD LOOK BACK ON, AND A STORY
I COULD SHARE WITH THE WORLD! SO, WHAT IF I JUST
LEFT? WALKED STRAIT OUT MY FRONT DOOR, DESPITE
THE LACK OF FUNDS. I?M A BIT CURIOUS, WHAT WOULD
HAPPEN THEN..?
THOSE WHO WANDER
RULE # 6: MAKE MONEY AS YOU GO
Got skills? Get a job! Yes, it?s really that easy!
What? Did you think you were going to be
panhandling to get around? Well, you might
actually end up doing that too. But, the ideal
situation is to get a job and make some good
money for a bit. Know your Visa rules and
regulations though, working for an extended
period of time will usually require a working
visa. It costs a bit more than the typical 30-day
visas, but its well worth it considering the
consequences. Immigration officers don?t take
kindly to misinformed travelers.
There are opportunities to make an extra buck
just about anywhere you go! Teach English in
Thailand, pick wine grapes in Italy, volunteer
at a children?s orphanage in Tanzania, or Au
Pair in New Zealand! These are only a few of
the very likely, and accessible possibilities to
consider on the road. Anytime, anywhere,
there is always something available!
RULE # 7: LEARN FROM LOCALS
Simply said, locals always know best! I mean
really, this rule trumps the Internet in terms of
useful information! With an established
wealth of knowledge, solidified by a lifetime
of residency, they can provide a comfortable
interpretation of your new surroundings.
Everything from local delicacies and cultural
history, to ancient traditions, enjoyable
hobbies and bequeathed techniques. This is
where you begin to discover enlightenment
within a new perspective. Something you
simply can not unobtainable with your hands
and your hands alone. These are the ones who
make traveling to a new place exotic and
special. As visitors, bring a smile and be
respectful!
RULE # 8: FIND A FREE MEAL
This isn?t always easy to do, but it is possible.
You just have to know where to look!
Supermarkets for one, often throw out tons of
fresh produce every single day! Most of it is
perfectly good fruits and vegetables! Just be
conscious of your selection.
Getting sick from something rotten or spoiled
would only be counter-productive at the end
of the day. Otherwise, go ahead and dive in!
If your looking for a step up from dumpster
diving, you can always try a smaller ?family
style? restaurant. At closing time, they will
usually throw out any left overs too! Ask
nicely, they might hook you up a meal, or more
likely, six! No one likes to see good food gone
to waste!
One final option is to volunteer! Volunteering
is a great way to get a few meals in you for the
day, maybe even earn a bit of spending cash if
An insta-bed suspended comfortably off
the ground, all in the compact size of a fat
water bottle! I would recommend checking
out a company called ?Hobo Hammocks?,
they make excellent, compact, and durable
hammocks for travelers, campers, and
loungers! Get one, and they will donate a
meal to the homeless too! If you prefer
sleeping on the ground, I would
recommend an ?Alpine BIVY? made by
Outdoor Research. Its a lightweight,
compact alternative to carrying around a
bulky tent. With a single collapsable pole,
the entire set up takes about 20 seconds
flat! Bada-bing Bada-Boom, you?re home!
The second, and probably best way to find
a free bed for the night would be through
an app called ?Couchsurfing?. It is a
community of travelers and hosts from
around the world. Create a profile, then
post where you?re going on the app! Before
you know it, hosts from that specified area
will be contacting you left and right! Once
you have the ?A-Okay? from your host,
arrange to meet up! If you?re a bit more
selective over who your staying with, you
can always scan the available hosts in any
specified area. Don?t be shy, send a
message and see what happens! You gotta
love you?re your modern day travel tools,
huh?
RULE # 10: SOMETIMES, YOU JUST GOTTA SAY
F**K IT
Disregarding an negative implication,
these two words have an interesting power
when used properly. It has the power to
instill any thought, dream, or notion deeply
within us. It is the final decision maker in
self-provoked debates, and a magnet to
any personal wants or attractions. This is
the inevitable mental contract signed
instinctually with out looking back, a
decision that projects us into the world of
the unknown at the snap of a single
synapse. Conservative, confident and
curious, we are the select few, thriving on
the rushing spurt of impulsive spontaneity.
Seeing the world for what it really is, free
from the binding confines of social stature,
funding or fear. In the end, you know what
you have to do. Fuck it, just go?
New York was a city we dreamed about. We
would watch Harry met Sally while fantasising
about walking the same streets or drinking in the
same bars at parties the girls in ?Gossip Girl?
would experience. We always talked about going
and then it became a reality.
I had decided after moving home, a failed
attempt at a further university course and an
unhappy job that I was going to go travelling.
Swiftly after telling friend Lynne about my
intended plans, we immediately talked non stop
about our dream to head to New York and how
we would make this a reality if I was going to be
forever travelling.
Neither of us work in high paid jobs ? although
we really should have earned more for the work we
did ? so how on earth were we going to afford
this?
As it turned out, our trip to New York City was not
as expensive as we thought it would be. Thanks
to having knowledge of the travel industry (and
also friends within it), real budget cunning, and
severe motivation we made it a reality ? with
money to spare. How you ask? Well let me detail
how we got a week in New York City for less than
£800 per person.
PLANNING:
We booked our hotel before our flights to New
two options.
Eventually we booked our hotel of choice, The
Why? We got the hotel half the price ? due to
deposit (around, $2 USD) AND didn?t have to pay
the balance until November 2015. Plenty of time
Don?t set foot in a Yellow Cab (taxi) unless
absolutely necessary, but even then, the Subway
is still probably faster. While the thrill and hype
of the famous Yellow Cabs of New York City are
hard to ignore, they come with a high price.
The price of a Cab from JFK International to
Manhattan is $45 dollars plus tolls and then add
another 15% tip on top of that. The price of the
Air-train and the Subway to Manhattan; $5
dollars for the Air-train and $2.75 for a Subway
ride from Jamaica Station to Manhattan. ?
absolute no brainer which option we were taking.
Top Tip: If you are planning to explore NYC buy an
unlimited subway pass. They have them available
for selected day lengths and weekly passes. We
bought a week of unlimited Subway travel for
$31.
Otherwise, WALK everywhere you will see more
of the city, more of its people and find new
places to go that weren?t mentioned on the
tourist map.
Don?t use your hotel Concierge for Broadway
Tickets While I?m sure this isn?t applicable in all
hotels, however, when myself and Lynne decided
we wanted to see Matilda on Broadway we went
to the concierge. We had read online how they
often help you find cheap tickets. WRONG. She
tried to charge us more than triple the amount of
a face value ticket! If you are using your
Concierge, slyly check online during or before so
you know how much you can get them for, take
time to think about it.
We went to ?Matilda Box Office?Direct and got
pretty good stage view tickets for $42 per
person ? our concierge tried to charge us $140 per
person for the same seats?.
Head over to Brooklyn/ Williamsburg for
night-time drinking. The drinks AND bar food are
half the price you will find in Manhattan. There
are a wide range of funky bars all around the
same area. Head to Bedford Street for some of
the best places to eat and drink on a budget
?trust me, it?s totally safe to get home on the
subway even when drunk. We were fine!
Take the Staten Island Ferry instead of a tourist
boat/ helicopter. Obviously, if you are wanting a
beautiful aerial view of the city a ferry isn?t going
to do it.
You can get the Staten Island Ferry for free from
the port at Battery Park. While you are walking
toward the ferry terminal you will be approached
by those trying to sell you onto a tourist boat (a
lot of money, similar view) say no, always. They
will then try to push the helicopter on you and
that decision is up to you. But you get beautiful
views from the Staten Island Ferry.
Good food doesn?t always mean fancy
restaurants Get off the major tourist streets and
wander around and you will find amazing food at
fantastic prices. If you are going to a restaurant
make sure you go before 7pm if you don?t have a
reservation, before it gets to busy.
Las Ramblas is Calling..
Hit the tourist trail but don?t expect to snag any
bargains here and watch your bags(!). One of the
worst streets in Barcelona for pick pockets ? Luckily I
never experienced this but plenty of my friends have.
Here you will find awesome energy, street
performers and awesome cafe to people watch in.
Hit La Rambla at night, if you?re not sure where to go
tonight you?ll be enticed into pub crawls, food crawls
and drinking games ? everything tourists like right?
Parc de la Ciutadella
Forget you?re in the city for a moment and get lost in
this beautiful park. One of Barcelona?s largest parks ?
and once the only park! ? with so much to offer in its
70 acres it will sooth those not used to spending so
much time in the city.
A beautiful park where people part take in Yoga,
Fitness, Afternoon snoozing ? or siesta ? picnics,
performing arts, people watching and wondering.
With endless trails leading to surprising giant
fountains with beautiful carvings, to planted forests
and small lakes it?s easy to forget you?re in Barcelona.
Go to the Beach
Of course our time in Barcelona was not full spent
exploring we did have the odd day (or two) dedicated
to the beach.
Most people will flock to the Barceloneta Beach
which is often very busy and crowded, the shops and
beach bars are slightly more expensive and it can be
very windy.
Head on over to the Platja De La Marbella which is
slightly quieter and bit more sheltered from the
wind. Perfect for tanning days and some epic wave
jumping!
Hot Tip: If it is really windy, stay away from the Palm
Tree?s on the Walk of either beach. While deciding
whether to get ice cream or not the top ? yes, literally
the top ? of a Palm Tree came clean off and landed
meters from us. Thankfully no one was squished. It was
all kinds of hilariously scary though.
I was channeling my inner Mary-Kate and Ashley from the movie Winning London and
here are 3 things I?ve learned about dating a British guy.
#1 Don?t be late unless you want to hear about your lack of
punctuality the rest of the night. It takes about 45 minutes-an hour to
travel anywhere in London.Chivalry is not dead.
#2 They are SO polite.
ENGLISH ACCENT + BOARDING SCHOOL UPBRINGING = PRINCE CHARMING
#3 Dry Humour. The British are known for being very honest and having a dry
sense of humor. My first language is sarcasm so it?s pretty refreshing when
someone can keep up with it.
I have only been on three dates so far in London so it was pretty easy coming up with
this list.
DOOM! DEATHROAD
It?s the ?done thing?in La Paz, Bolivia. Most travellers pedal the 69
recently, named The Most Dangerous Road in The World.
GEMMAORROCK & CRAIGARMIT
TWOSCOTSABROAD.COM
SECOND LEG
Kieran took us through a very bumpy gravel pathway
(tunnel is out-of-bounds now after a gringo/ truck
crash). Say goodbye to smooth roads! After that the
pathway is gravel; rocks; bends and a downhill, oh and
a 4,650 metre drop. Craig loved it! Before we fully
committed to the downhill, we had to pay our 25 bs /
£2.50 for the pleasure.
THIRD LEG
After lunch, we hit the real Death Road. Kieran hung
back with me until I found a bit of confidence. I can?t
say I ever fully found it but I did ease up towards the
end, two fingers still on the brakes like! Craig flew
down, hanging back to check up on me now and again.
There were lots of regrouping and photo stops with
instruction on how to tackle the next part. Death Road
all in all took about three hours.
FOURTH LEG
Whilst entering the town, Yolosa (1200 asl), you are
asked to be respectful of the locals and slow down
slightly and say Hola. Recently there was a tour guide /
local van crash and the local was arrested. The locals
blocked the road until he was realised from prison so
the tour companies and locals had a meeting and came
to an agreement that they would not bolt through the
town. This town is the end point. Collect your beer, you
did it! You now decide whether to pay 200 bs for the
zip slide (do it!) or head to the animal sanctuary (which
you are bused to).
ZIPSLIDE
Craig and I opted for the zip slide. We were hooked up
and bundled into an open back truck. It took a while to
register that we were driving up The Death Road! For
the next half an hour we supermaned down three
different zip slides at speeds of up to 85 km/ hr. Now
this is my kind of fun!
We then joined the rest of the group for lunch at the
animal reserve (which you can actually stay over night
at). You can also shower here (soap and towel
provided). Craig showered with a monkey staring at
him which was a first!
So now we have the T-shirt to prove it, we did Death
Road. Apologies to Gravity who will definitely have to
replace the back brake pads of my bike!
VHe never really established contact on
at a family wedding. After approximately
13 years of never seeing the guy you can
imagine how fun that event was. After
much avoiding, from both myself and my
father, myself and my brother spoke with
him. There were obviously polite
exchanges before he asked if we could
?talk about it?. Being a wedding I wasn?t
really wanting to bring that up and didn?t
feel is was appropriate and knowing that I
kindly declined and said another time. It
was at this point my father decided to
leave the wedding, not return for the
remainder of the night and has not tried to
contact me since. It does need to be
known that I haven?t tried to contact him
either.
Fast forward 3 to 4 years and I am
currently sitting on a Malaysia Airlines
flight from Adelaide to Kuala Lumpur, with
my amazing partner, embarking on our
five week adventure of Asia,
# ljojlodoesasia. Being the slight control
freak I am we arrived at the airport 3 hours
before our international flight, checked in,
cleared security, had the token chai, made
the important ?I love you and yes I promise
international customs, obtained a refund
from the tourist refund scheme and
pre-ordered our duty free. My god we
accomplished a lot in that time, don?t you
think? Usually while going through these
motions I am bound to run into someone I
know, South Australia is a bloody small
place. Unfortunately, no cigar on that this
time. Without a second thought I boarded
the airline and sneakily (I am not sure if I
had to be sneaky) filmed it on time lapse
mode on my GoPro, just in case we need it
for the blog or we can put it together in a
cool montage (I included it below).
Finally, we obtained our seats after being
devastated by the fact we weren?t in
business class or had scored extra leg
room. As I was quickly trying to sort out
what I needed in the seat pocket and what
could in fact go in the overhead lockers I
noticed someone that looked familiar. I
did the quick double take and realised it
was in fact my amazing Nana and Pa from
my dad?s side. I was instantly excited and
there were hugs and kisses all around. It
was after five seconds of elation my heart
dropped and I thought f*&k, why are they
travelling to Asia? I think dad got married
to someone from Asia, where is dad?
At this point my Nana & Pa quietly
informed me that my father was in fact on
this flight, with his new wife and they
were all in fact travelling to Sri Lanka, the
place we are spending the most amount of
time on our trip. Holy Jesus what do I do?
Unlike my grandparents who were sitting
directly next to me my father was sitting a
few rows back so I had time to gather my
thoughts.
Ask yourself, are you
happy at your current
job?
The answer is easy. YES or NO. There is no in between
here or gray area. There is no answering the question
as, ?Well I have really great hours and benefits? or ?Not
really but I like my co-workers.? If what you are doing
today is not what you see yourself doing 1 year, 5 years,
or 10 years down the road, than quit. Don?t waste a year
of your precious twenties being at a job that isn?t
fulfilling your soul. I know it?s not that easy to quit
anything cold turkey, but neither is staying at a job you
don?t love. I had an amazing roommate and apartment
in Chicago (shout out to Amy & Bosworth Ave), a very
stable and nice paycheck, health insurance, benefits,
great hours, and fun co-workers. At the end of the day, I
did not love my job. I was always seeking for the next
vacation, or the next trip to take. My every day routine
got boring and I didn?t feel that passionate about what I
was doing. I had the idea in my head that I was going to
leave my job, but I did not want to say it out loud to
others, or myself. Saying it out loud would make it real,
and I wasn?t sure I was ready for that. I don?t remember
exactly what task I was doing at work, but it dawned on
me that all I have to do is walk into my co-workers
office, let her know that in about a month I?m going to
be moving on to other pursuits, and from there that will
jump start my dreams into a reality. My last day of work
When you are trying to book a trip, the first
thought that comes to mind is where do I want
to go and whom do I want to go with. Before
you start hitting up your friends on who wants
to travel, think. People are VERY different when
they travel. As well as you think you know
someone, you most likely don?t. Traveling can
be very fun, however it can be very stressful at
times. Traveling with a big group of people is
time consuming and a hassle. Traveling with
one other person is great if you have the same
vision when it comes to traveling. Pick your
travel partners wisely.
Travel by
Imma do me
Traveling by myself to Europe was single
handlely the scariest but best decision I have
ever made. When you travel by yourself you
have no commitments to anyone but yourself.
You have the freedom to do whatever it is
that you feel like doing at any given moment.
When you travel with someone you are never
really pushed out of your comfort zone. When
you are by yourself you naturally put yourself
in situations you wouldn?t normally be in. You
seek out adventure and conversations with
others. Don?t wait until your friend can get the
time off work to travel with you. Do you, and
Imma do me.
The answer is
always no unless
you ask
I never was good taking no for an answer as a
kid. If my parents told me I couldn?t do
something, I would do it anyway to see and
prove I COULD do it. The same thing goes
when traveling. It?s very easy to be scared and
feel out of place when traveling to different
countries especially where they don?t speak
English. It is very easy to get ripped off, told
that you cant stay at a hostel because they are
booked, or told something you want to do is
too expensive. Where there is a will, there is a
way. I showed up by myself on the island of
Hvar in Croatia. I was told that the hostel I
wanted to stay at was booked, and there were
no tickets for the boat booze cruise left. I
decided I was not going to take no for an
answer. While being a girl did help my case in
this situation, I think this mentality is a good
tool for anyone to have. I walked up to the
hostel ready to go on the boat, and had my
money in hand to pay for my stay that night.
My exact words were (with a huge smile on my
face), ?I know that you guys have no beds
available, and no tickets left for the boat,
however I have no place to stay tonight and
I?m ready to go on the boat if there is an
available ticket.? The cute Australian guy
immediately said, ?YUP! YOU?RE IN!? Reserved
my bed and boat ticket, and I stayed the next 4
days at a ?fully booked? hostel.
Unknown!
The unknown can cause a lot of people
anxiety. Some need more structure than
others when it comes to traveling. I
definitely had my moments of anxiety and
almost break downs when things went
wrong. The BIGGEST struggle of my trip
happened when I got sick in Croatia. I had
just come from Budapest where I heard
everyone gets sick. I went to Sparty, which
was a crazy Budapest bath party. It was like a
Vegas pool party times 100. Everyone told
me not to go under the water? so what did I
do by the end of the night? Go under the
water. In the morning my head was
throbbing, my vision was blurry, my eyes
were watery, and I had the puppy mill cough.
I first thought it was allergies, but when I
woke up I realized I needed oral antibiotics
and prescription eye drops. In Split, Croatia
there are no doctors or immediate cares. I
had to walk all the way to the hospital to get
treatment. I had no idea what any of the
signs said, I couldn?t even see because I
didn?t have my contacts in, and no one could
point me in the right direction (I wouldn?t
have been able to see their finger anyway).
Finally I walked into the lobby and had a nice
woman I met translate to the nurse what I
needed. The nurse looked at me weird and I
wondered why until I heard the translation. I
was in the labor and delivery unit of the
hospital. DEFINITELY did not need treatment
there. Long story short after an hour I found
the ocular department & ended up paying
only $25 to have a full exam. Leaving the
hospital I realized how grateful I am to have
amazing access to health care in the US. This
experience taught me a life lesson and I can
look back and laugh at it now, even though I
was literally on the verge of breakdown
trying to get help. Embracing the unknown
and the struggles you go through will
challenge and change you. Life is
unpredictable and if you can see the beauty
in the unknown than your travels won?t just
be a memory, they will be life changing.
Do NOT bring up anything work related or
anything dealing with daily life as remember
this trip is a break from reality.
Traveling with your spouse also has the perks
of shared driving if you are on a road trip and
getting to lay on each others shoulders on a
plane which may be awkward if you were to try
with a stranger.
TIP: When choosing seats on a plane if you are
allowed that luxury, choose seats in the very
back of the plane as usually those fill up last
and that aisle of three may be all yours to share
between the two of you.
Managing Stress
The biggest thing that can ruin a trip between
spouses is fighting and many fights are simply
started by the stresses of traveling. Go into
every trip with an open mind and realize that
most of your best laid plans will probably not
go perfectly. Be ready for that plan B. Again, try
to remember back to when you were first
dating and were on your best behavior, there is
no excuse for not continuing that good
behavior. You are a team and no matter what
delays or change of plans may come your way
at least you will have each other.
TIP: Don?t try to cram too much into your daily
itinerary as things always take longer than
expected and trying to make it in time for
numerous reservations will only add stress.
Technology
Although technology has made traveling so
much incredibly easier through the use of GPS
car navigation instead of that large noisy map
your trip together should be an escape from
reality and not a time to conduct business or
talk with family. They can talk to you when you
get back.
Use of laptops and smart phones can be a
wealth of knowledge when it comes to finding
nearby attractions while traveling but limit
their use to aiding your travel alone.
TIP: Fight the urge to share your daily
happenings while traveling via Facebook,
Twitter, and blogs. Remember, the more time
you spend typing away, the less time you are
living your travels and you are only limiting the
stories you will have to share when you get
Following these tips should aid in you both
who has met his wife on vacation, proposed to
her on vacation, and gotten married while on
vacation, that traveling with your spouse is not
only possible, but when done right is the most
rewarding aspect of your time away from
reality.
Being in exotic locations where there are no
hectic schedules will have you falling in love
with each other all over again and if you
decide to travel separately then just remember
that the same exotic fun location will still exist
for you both, only your spouse will be
substituted for Raul the pool boy or Mindy the
bartender, which may result in you not having
the option to travel with your current spouse
in the future!

So after spending 3 years at my previous job
going on this trip even though we booked it
crazy, I still went ahead with it. After all I paid
a lot of money for it and wasn't gonna miss
thoughts, that life is very short and traveling
the world, meeting strangers is one way if not
the best way to prolong and fulfil that life of
ours. You have such a care free feeling when
your away traveling from home, but at the
same time appreciate where you are and how
you got there. Some believe that traveling is
you 'running' away from your problems, but
more exciting and scary than getting 'lost' in
CHRISTCHURCH, NEWZEALAND
"I wasn't truly happy for years. I was doing what I
thought was expected of me; graduated
university, had a good job and almost had
enough money in the bank to buy my first house
at 22. However I was also in a toxic relationship
for 4 years that had worn me down so much from
the alcohol, lying and then cheating that I
couldn't even deal with sitting alone for more
than 10 minutes before my thoughts would
consume me. I was a wreck, paranoid, self
conscious, worried and working out more than
you could imagine just to keep myself sane. But I
just couldn't get the confidence to leave him. It's
funny because to everyone else on the outside I
came across as this bright confident bubbly
woman, I was good at putting on a brave face
and just getting on with life. Now that I look
back, I was just completely and utterly in denial. I
still held onto hope that one day all his promises
would be fulfilled and we would be the happy
couple that we used to be.
And then one day it just hit me, I deserved to be
genuinely happy in life and not just pretend day
by day. Yeah I was getting by with my smile on
my face but it all felt so mediocre, and isn't life
meant to be amazing? Isn't the person your with
meant to build you up not bring you down? I
wanted to feel as good on the inside as I acted on
the outside. So one morning, I packed all my
things silently and left my partner and never
looked back. Of course I had the awful break up
period, I had just walked out on someone I still
loved. But he was no good for me and I hated the
person I had become being with him, for once the
little voice in my head was louder than my heart
and I knew I was was doing the right thing.
Once I had gotten over the initial breakup
sadness that one endures after 4 years together I
decided to look at other aspects of my life and I
decided I wanted change. I felt like I needed to
press the restart button on life and become me
again. Next thing I know I quit my job and
booked flights to Europe, travelling solo, for 4
months. Since then I have visited 8 different
countries and have met countless of amazing
people along the way. I have learned what I am
capable of and I now know that I am so much
stronger in myself that I ever thought possible.
Its been one of the biggest life lessons I have ever
experienced and I am so so happy I walked out
that door that day and even more so that I got on
that plane.
I've also learned that I don't need a man to define
me. Just because he couldn't treat me right was
no reflection on me and my self worth, it was a
reflection on his character and him. I don't need
someone to validate me as a person or me being
beautiful just because they say so. I've learned to
love my self the way I am and I make my own
happiness instead of trying to find it in someone
else. And it feels amazing.
I return to New Zealand in a month, I'm currently
in Germany riding horses for a job which has
been the dream for many years, and have also
decided to go back to university next to start
building the life I want - instead of the life I
thought was expected of me. I'm finally
genuinely content although there are still ups
and downs, I have learnt that happiness isn't
something that you have to find ... It's something
you have to make yourself."
I've had my own fashion labels in Australia for
the past 10 years and wanted to grow and
challenge myself creatively. I wasn't prepared to
be stuck in the same routine so I decided to move
to America to explore different opportunities and
seek out different perspectives.
Considering all the factors in moving to a new
city can be daunting as you are starting from
scratch. Social media tends to project an image
of having this insane LA party lifestyle but the
truth is no one is documenting the daily
struggles. You are continuously out of your
comfort zone as everything is unfamiliar
territory, it's not easy but you have to believe in
your purpose. I've travelled the world many
times but the biggest challenge is being without
your friends and family whilst adapting to a
whole new lifestyle, especially in Hollywood.
It's easy to let the negativity take over when
negative things are happening to you and its
hard to be persistent when you feel like you are
failing. I found the only way I can ever become
comfortable is by pushing through feeling
uncomfortable. I think of giving up on a daily
basis, but sticking it out is what's going separate
you from the rest.
I'm a creative person so I try to surround myself
with like minded people, I met my roomie at a
bar in LA 3 years ago whilst travelling. I believe
in creating your own luck and so I went up to
him and it turns out he was in the creative field
so we got along great. We connected via
Facebook unbeknownst to me I would be moving
to LA a year later. Coming over to LA knowing
only one person was terrifying but a lot has
progressed in two years, the many sleepless
nights and tears has been worth the life I have
now created.
It's amazing what time can do and strength can
prove, I've learnt how capable, resilient and
determined I am. If you have a dream and it
ultimately makes you happy, stick to it because
thats going to make all the difference. My
business is growing, I'm achieving new goals,
experiencing new things and have created my
own family. This outweighs the sad times, and
fuck I have grown immensely. I now know that
even though there are always going to be daily
struggles, you have to stay confident in the path
you have chosen.
BAMBAEXPERIENCE
Travelling is becoming more accessible
every day. People travel farther and for
longer periods of time, flight tickets are
cheaper than before and there is more
competition among tour operators that offer
customised trips and unique services.
Independent travel is becoming increasingly
popular. People are looking to travel by
themselves rather than with a large group,
and want to be free to do what they want,
when they want during their trip.
Furthermore, it has become easy to
personalise your ideal itinerary and trip.
Here below you can read about emerging
travel trends:
Local experiences to share
There is a newly emerging class of travellers
who want to discover the culture and the
traditions of a destination fully by going to
meet the local population, sharing a meal
with them and sleeping at homestays.
Immersing in the local way of life is an
integral part of authentic travel nowadays.
One of the most important characteristics of a
trip is for travellers to feel that they are living
a unique experience and they are not on a
group tour. Travellers are looking for
different ways to create their very own travel
story
Emergence of ?do it yourself?travellers
Because of the emergence of social media
and blogs, there are more and more people
who travel by themselves creating their own
?tailor-made? itineraries inspired by online
reviews of other travellers. As a result, there
is a high demand for tailor-made trips and
tour operators are turning to this tendency.
For example, at Bamba Experience, we
specialise in creating customised trips.
The ?flashpacker?
A flashpacker is a person who has both the
spirit of a backpacker as well as the spirit of a
jetsetter. As much as they love to try the best
local food with the locals, they also enjoy the
best local wines with their meals. They are
very connected to social networks and they
carry a laptop in their backpack. They look for
combining local cuisine and experiences with
a notion of well-being and luxury.
The "poshtels"
This is the accommodation of 2015, the posh
hostel! The poshtel is a hybrid between the
hostel and the hotel. The poshtel has the
same communal feel of an hostel but the
amenities go above and beyond those of a
typical hostel, with the added plus of having
breakfast included.
Newmarketing strategy ? ?the braggie?
Social media is one of the best way to
communicate nowadays and promote one?s
products, hostel or hotel chains. Travel
companies encourage people to take selfies
in their establishments and upload them onto
social media to show off all of the cool places
they have been. This trend is called ?the
braggie?.
