34 SHAKUR ABDUL-KHALLAQ has a BA in Psychology from Boston University. He taught in the Boston Public Schools for one year before joining the staff at Needham High School as METCO Coordinator, and has taught SAT Prep classes for Needham Community Education since the fall of 2008. DONALD ANDERSON has been working with college strategies since 1990 and has successfully guided his three children through the financial aid process. He received his BS in Engineering from Northeastern University and his MBA from Syracuse University. As a College Funding Advisors associate, Don now lectures extensively throughout the greater Boston area on the financial aid process. GEORGE BARDIS is the wine director at Martignetti Liquors in Brighton, MA. He has studied food and wine for many years, and has taught wine courses for several area adult education programs, including Brookline, Cambridge and Needham. He holds a BA from Washington State University. INGRID GOLDBLOOM BLOCH www. ingridgoldbloombloch.com is an artist who uses common objects in creative and unusual ways to create her art. Her pieces have been described as “innovative, ironic, and humorous.” Her works have been featured in museums and galleries throughout the United States, including two Bead International: Best in Contemporary Beadwork touring shows, the Fuller Craft Museum, and The Society for Arts and Crafts in Boston, and Ripley’s Believe It or Not! She has also been featured in a number of books and magazines, including 500 Beaded Objects, and Fiber Arts Magazine. J. SCOTT BRUMIT has been studying various forms of martial arts since 1983. He has studied and taught Kung-Fu, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and numerous weapon forms. He has performed as a martial artist in Sarah Caldwell’s production of Puccini’s Turandot for the Opera Company of Boston. Scott also has been INSTRUCTOR BIOS performing, directing and producing opera throughout the U.S. for over 30 years, and currently serves as the General Director of Needham’s Longwood Opera. MATT CARROLL, along with his wife Jackie, owns the Medfield Wine Shoppe, established over 12 years ago. Before opening up his own shop, Matt worked selling wines throughout Massachusetts for wine suppliers and wholesalers. Matt and Jackie have focused on finding wines that over-delivered on price and quality, usually tasting between two and three thousand wines each year to make their selections. PAT CANAVAN has been a beekeeper for 5 years, and has mentored new beekeepers for the last two. He is a member of the Middlesex County Beekeepers Association and enjoys sharing the magical world of beekeeping with others. HSIU-HUI CHEN was born in Taipei, Taiwan. A native Mandarin speaker, Hsiu-Hui holds a BA in English from Fu-Jen University in Taiwan. She is a member of the Chinese Language Teachers Association, has taught Mandarin to adults in various settings, and is currently working as a private Mandarin tutor. Hsiu-Hui is also a Nia certified instructor, and has taught in several area programs. MARILYN CRUICKSHANK, a Needham resident, is the owner of Creative Simplicity Professional Organizing, LLC, which provides an array of organizing services to individuals, families, and businesses in the Metrowest area. Marilyn is a member of the National Organization of Professional Organizers (NAPO). RICHARD DERBY, an elementary teacher for 27 years and also a Needham resident, began teaching paper folding in his classroom over 30 years ago. INSTRUCTOR BIOS MARY KATE DILLON holds a BS in Nursing from Simmons College, and is a certified spinning instructor with over 5 years experience teaching spin classes. She works as a school nurse, in addition to leading enthusiastic spinning classes. DENISE DRISCOLL has an MFA in Visual Arts from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University and a dual BA in Cultural Anthropology and Psychology from the University of South Carolina. She teaches Conceptual Development, Installation and Illustration at the Art Institute of Boston as well as Drawing and Mixed Media at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh’s Online Division. She uses painting, drawing, sculpture and printing to create collaborative installations that have been shown at the Boston Center for the Arts, Babson College, Bunker Hill Community College, Lesley University, UMass-Amherst, Dana Hall Gallery, the Natick Center for the Arts and Studio 370. ROBERTO FIGEROA is a professional dancer and teacher and Artistic Director of Rumba Y Timbal, a dance company he founded in 2007. Since moving to Boston in 2002, he has fallen in love with the world of Salsa, as it reminds him of his life and culture growing up in El Salvador. Roberto enjoys performing and teaching in workshops all over the United States, Canada and El Salvador.
