30 RECREATION AMERICA’S BOATING COURSE ® Great Blue Hill Sail and Power Squadron Members, Instructors Boating is a fabulous family activity, but you shouldn’t leave the dock without basic boating skills. Now is the time to prepare for the next boating season. Useful for paddlers, sailors, or those with powerboats, this course is meant for both captain and crew. Topics to be covered include boat handling, safety, federal and state requirements, aides to navigation, charts and course plotting, trailering, marine radio use, knots, personal watercraft use and more. Upon successful completion of the course, a certificate will be issued which is honored by all states for their basic licensing requirements, and most insurance companies for premium reductions. Those between ages 12 and 16 may obtain their Massachusetts Powerboat Operator’s certificate. If you are going to be on the water, let us show you how to do so with skill, confidence, and fun! 11501 $110 5 Thursdays @ NHS Room 728 6:30-9:30pm May 3 – 31 Note: Great Blue Hill Sail and Power Squadron is part of the United States Power Squadron (www.usps. org), a 50,000-member organization dedicated to showing the public how to be safe on the water. RECREATION / WRITING WRITING WRITING YOUR MEMOIR – TELLING OUR STORIES Anna Simon, Instructor Creative writing is one of the best ways to explore and record your life’s stories. It is a stimulating and fulfilling way to express yourself, and you’re never too young or too old to discover its wonders. In this class you will discover your own unique voice and bring out the storyteller that dwells in each of us. We will make use of different creative exercises to launch the writing process in a supportive, nonthreatening environment. Stretch your writing using helpful prompts such as mementos, photos and short meditations to help get you started (note for Anna’s former students – new prompts and exercises will be used in this class to further jumpstart your writing). This class is open to both new and experienced writers. Please bring a pen and notebook (or laptops) and a bag lunch. Limited to 12. 11808.3 $69 1 Saturday @ NHS Room 204 9am-3pm May 12 Anna’s courses have been by far the best I have ever taken – better than any graduate course I ever attended! – Student in one of Anna Simon’s writing classes NEEDHAM COMMUNITY EDUCATION • ADULT PROGRAMS • WINTER/SPRING 2012
