WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP<br />

Lavonne Suwalski, Instructor<br />

The soft hues and translucent quality of watercolors<br />

make them a uniquely appealing medium. Join us as<br />

we learn various watercolor techniques and experiment<br />

with colors and textures. Drawing is an integral part<br />

of this class, but no experie<strong>nce</strong> is necessary – we will<br />

learn and practice in a fun, supportive environment!<br />

Please note that this class is open to both beginning<br />

students and those with some experie<strong>nce</strong> with<br />

watercolors. A materials list will be posted on the<br />

<strong>adult</strong> education page of the district website (under<br />

CRAFTS & SKILLS<br />

INTRODUCTION TO<br />

DIGITAL CAMERAS<br />

Sam Liggero, Instructor<br />

Designed for the beginner, this course will help you<br />

develop a basic understanding of digital cameras,<br />

as well as provide many practical tips on how to get<br />

good results from your camera. Students should<br />

bring their camera (compact or single lens reflex)<br />

and camera manual to class. Topics to be covered<br />

include how digital cameras work, memory cards,<br />

ART / CRAFTS & SKILLS<br />

features and benefits of currently available digital<br />

cameras, use of manual and automatic modes, lighting<br />

and composition, and how to organize, access and<br />

back up images in a computer. We will also review<br />

some common mistakes made by amateur digital<br />

photographers and how to avoid these. Printing options<br />

will be briefly reviewed. Familiarity with Windows XP,<br />

Vista, or Macintosh operating systems is not required,<br />

but will be helpful to the student. Limited to 14.<br />

PHOTOSHOP FOR DIGITAL<br />

PHOTOGRAPHERS<br />

Sam Liggero, Instructor<br />

This course is designed for amateur digital<br />

photographers who would like to learn more about<br />

image editing and creation using Adobe Photoshop<br />

or Photoshop Elements. The course consists of four<br />

hands-on image editing classes using i-Mac computers<br />

and Adobe Photoshop CS3. You will learn how to<br />

adjust image size, exposure, color, sharpness, and<br />

other parameters using several Photoshop tools and<br />

techniques, including adjustment layers, masks, and<br />

filters. You will also learn how to make composite<br />

images and montages, selectively change one portion<br />

or element of an image, and add text to images.<br />

Multiple Photoshop shortcuts to enha<strong>nce</strong> productivity<br />

will be demonstrated and discussed, and the<br />

differe<strong>nce</strong>s between RAW and JPG image formats will<br />

be explained. You will have access to the instructor’s<br />

website which includes several video tutorials<br />

addressing Photoshop techniques. Prerequisite: basic<br />

navigation skills on the computer. Limited to 12.<br />
