CHAMPIONSHIP
With half the season
almost gone and not
a single win to their
credit, the First XV against
Glynneath came agonisingly
close to a remarkable first
victory with just two minutes
of normal time to play.
They had performed with
tremendous strength, ability
and resilience against the
second half wind to hold
the visitors at bay, and were
leading 14-9.
It was a sad irony that when
they eventually broke the
territorial stranglehold and
advanced to a position from
where they could have
realistically held on, two
kicking miscues brought
the away team back on
the counter to grab a late
converted try, taking them to
a16-14 victory.
Llanharan had made
a mockery of their
championship record with

a first half in which they
scrummaged strongly
and attacked with neat
combinations, two deserved
tries coming from Craig Burton
and Morgan Williams, Scott
Jones converting both, and
they were ahead 14-6 at half
time
Defeat it may have been but
the performance suggested
that the campaign is not over
yet for this young and spirited
team.
They had gone into the fixture
after a nightmare 99-0 reverse
at table topping Merthyr.
Injuries and unavailability
meant uncontested scrums
with no replacements
allowed, Llanharan’s makeshift
side earning plaudits for a
never say die performance,
the score line exaggerated by
a flurry of scoring when down
to fourteen men at the end.
The week previously they
were again put to the sword
by reigning champions
Bargoed, going down 73-0.
MID GLAM PREMIER LEAGUE
The Seconds had mixed
fortunes in their defence of
the league title.
First team calls and other
withdrawals saw them
stumble to their first league
defeat of the season, 29-7 to
Kenfig Hill, coach Kevin Jones
nevertheless doing a good job
at scrum half. Chris Sharkey’s
try was converted by Ethan
Williams. However there were
also two wins. Brackla were
seen off 30-0 at home (tries
- Craig Burton 4, Tom Harris,
Paul Winters), and another
much changed side came
away from Nantyfyllon with
a creditable 21-10 win, coach
Hugh James playing in the
same team as son Evan in the
second row. The scores came
from Lloyd Thomas and Paul
Winters, with a penalty try
also awarded, Thomas adding
kicks.

Under 7’s TAGFEST
Tournament
Despite atrocious weather
the Under 7s had a big day
out at TAGFEST in Swansea, a
50 team tournament from all
over the Blues and Ospreys
regions, later watching the
Ospreys play at the Liberty.
The only defeat came against
a bigger Brecon side from the
higher age level.

On a very wet day in Cardiff,
the Under 9s braved the
elements to win, tries being
scored by Cohen, Dan, Ieuan T
(3), and Luke.
COMMITTEE CHANGES
Colin Pring has retired as
Entertainments Secretary.
Chairman Adrian Tattersall
commented: “We are sorry
to lose Colin, but respect his
decision. He has been with
this club as a player and
committee man over many
decades and has put a lot of
work in. He is a popular man
around the place and we
hope we will still see him in
the club. Colin has undertaken
his duties successfully despite
problems with his health. The
committee would like to thank
him for his services and we
wish him all the best for the
future.”
However, the running of the
club reached a significant
milestone when Kay Postans
joined the committee. Kay has
been a long time follower as
was her late husband Mal, and
she will be the first woman to
serve on the committee. Said
chairman Adrian Tattersall:
“Kay will bring a fresh and
complementary perspective
on things and plenty of
expertise; she is a very
welcome addition.”
IRELAND TOUR
The club will travel to Kinsale
on the evening of Thursday
April 28, returning on the
Tuesday. If you need to know
more, the guys to talk to are
Clinton, Rossi, Owain Howe,
Sam Bubble, Wall the Ball and
Jervy.
