In Memory of Jerry Tucker As many of you know, Jerry Tucker passed away on December 15. Our thoughts and prayers are with Nanette and the Tucker family at this time. Jerry & Nanette were the 2015 Presidents of H.S.R.D.C. and were slated to be President for 2016. Jerry was a generous, fun-loving man who wanted everyone to have a good time. I’ve heard him referred to as a “gentle giant.” His obituary and more photos are on the web at http://jerrytucker.iswithchrist.com/jerry-wayne-tucker/ Jerry Wayne Tucker, son of Harmon & Maudie Tucker, was born at home on November 26, 1941 and died on December 15, 2015. Jerry grew up on Houston’s East side graduating from Milby High School and went on to graduate from Sam Houston State University with a degree in Education. While at SHSU, he met the love of his life, Nanette. They were married the summer before their senior year. After graduation, Jerry began his career as a teacher. Not really liking this adventure he tried several jobs in the business world finally finding his niche as a salesman working for his father-in-law, who owned his own business. When “Dad” retired, Jerry took over the business and eventually ended his career when he closed the shop. Retiring did not agree with him so he took a part-time job with East Fort Bend Ministry, working with Nanette. He went on to work part-time for Home Depot and then U-Haul. He loved working at U-Haul because of the camaraderie with those he worked with. His love of square dancing began through the prodding and teasing of Wes and Barbara Henderson. On the very first fun night, Jerry signed them up for lessons and the rest is history. He began as a student and later became President of the Fairbees and on to President of the HSRDC. He was also President of Camping Squares and Texas State Camping Squares. While enjoying this activity he loved, he made many, many friends along the way. He is preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey. He is survived by the “love of his life” Nanette, son Chris (Alicia), daughter-in-law Jennifer, brother Harmon Ray Tucker (Haroldene), sisters Jean King (Harry), and Wanda Roberts (Marvin), and Betty Singleton (Kelvin), grandchildren Michael, Sarah, Jacob and Jason, mother-in-law, Dorothy Smith, sisterin-law Sharon Fischer, many nieces and nephews and the many friends and neighbors he met along his journey in life. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday January 6, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Bethany Christian Church, 3223 Westheimer, Houston 77098.
