IQ business profile
plus they’ll do production runs was low as 1000.
If you go to the Far East you’re looking at the
lowest production runs of at least 50,000. Being
in the UK means you can also keep an eye on the
health and safety issues and working conditions at
the factory.
How are you funding the business?
Crowd-funding has been great for us. Generating
investment can be difficult with a product as
you have to pay a big cost up front for the
manufacturing run. We’re launching a campaign
on Kickstarter in January so that people can make
a pledge and effectively pre-order the game. We
will also be allowing people to buy equity in the
company for a limited time in January. People
don’t need a commercial background, they just
need to share our values of being a corporate
citizen and helping others with their learning.
What other games have you created?
We have six product series and each one has
various games. DeskTop Grand Prix is part of the
motoring series, then there’s a group of military
strategy games, including the one I started with my
godson. The key group is the educational series.
Working with children, I knew that there seemed
to be a distinct gap in basic numeracy and literacy,
and this has been in the press in recent times.
As a country we’ve dropped to about 14th out
of 20 in the literacy league, so as well as helping
people have fun, we also want to give back and
help turn the tide to basic literacy and numeracy,
as well as geography and history.
Which distribution channels will you
be using?
We have a basic marketing and distribution plan
as a whole, as well as one for each product series.
We have developed an individual marketing plan
for each game. So, for example, we’ll be selling the
DeskTop Grand Prix game online, with Amazon
as the main start-up channel initially, so they’ll do
a lot of the processing and distribution for us. We’ll
have some digital campaigns and we hope to get
this into independent motoring fan websites.
