Project involving multiple watersheds<br />

Greater Blue Earth and Des Moines<br />

River SSTS loans<br />

This project was implemented to aid in replacing failing<br />

sewage treatment systems in Watonwan, Blue Earth,<br />

Cottonwood and Jackson Counties; thereby reducing<br />

surface and groundwater contaminants such as fecal<br />

coliform in the Watonwan, Le Sueur, Cottonwood<br />

and Des Moines River watersheds. A total loan fund<br />

of $1,2000,000.00 was dedicated to this project at an<br />

amount of $300,000.00 per county. Blue Earth County<br />

(BEC) was able to bring 52 systems into compliance<br />

using a total of $531,210.63 of their available funds.<br />

Watonwan County was able to bring 32 systems into<br />

compliance using a total of $298,839.61 of their available<br />

funds. Cottonwood County was able to bring 16 systems<br />

into compliance using $192,455.35 of their available<br />

funds. Of the total of $1,200,000.00 in available funds,<br />

$1,022,505.59 was utilized. Additional funds may have<br />

been used in early 2014 but spring weather delayed the<br />

start of the 2014 septic installation season.<br />
