protect water quality. The measureable outcomes and<br />

non-point source pollutant reduction goals expected<br />

from these BMP’s are: 76 tons/yr of TSS (sediment), 76<br />

tons/yr of soil loss savings, 14,000 lbs./yr of P reductions<br />

and 18,000 lbs./yr of N reductions. This project also<br />

includes outreach, education, civic engagement, and<br />

civic organizing, to include key stakeholders, citizens and<br />

landowners in the process. Additional activities include<br />

the development of ten forest stewardship plans for<br />

landowners in areas that need protection to provide an<br />

inventory, assessment and mapping of the various forest<br />

cover types, and include management recommendations<br />

for reforestation practices, harvesting, wildlife habitat<br />

improvement, and overall protection of the forest<br />

resources. Finally, the agricultural BMP loan program will<br />

be used to assist landowners with BMP’s that protect and<br />

improve water quality.<br />

Kanabec Water Resources Protection Project – 2012<br />

Sponsor: Kanabec SWCD<br />

Funding: CWF (Grant) $201,892<br />

Purpose: This project will provide baseline data through<br />

water monitoring, recording and analyzing the results<br />

of six unassessed rivers/tributaries, three unassessed<br />

lakes and five storm water outlets in the city of Mora<br />

which drain to the Snake River; promote and implement<br />

approved BMPs, including feedlot runoff treatment and<br />

control, livestock fence exclusion from streams, heavy<br />

use protection areas for cattle, roadside runoff/erosion<br />

control, critical area seeding, sediment basin and wetland<br />

restoration; sponsor an outdoor water quality learning<br />

event in 2012 for 90 Girls Scouts and their families, as<br />

a national event for the Girl Scouts of America; provide<br />

technical assistance for the development of eight<br />

nutrient management plans for landowners; develop<br />

eight forest stewardship plans for landowners; promote<br />

and implement the Agriculture BMP Loan Program to<br />

assist landowners with BMPs that protect and<br />

improve water quality.<br />

Snake River <strong>Watershed</strong> Resource Protection<br />

Project – 2012<br />

Board (SRWMB )<br />

Funding: CWP (Loan) $400,000<br />

Purpose: This project will promote and install<br />

40 SSTSs and other rural BMPs in the Snake River<br />

watershed.<br />
