- NIU also finished ninth nationally in scoring, with an average of 40.8 points<br />

per game - a number that included 44 rushing touchdowns.<br />

- Huskies ranked fifth nationally in kickoff coverage, fourth in punt coverage.<br />

At University of St. Francis:<br />

- In seven years (2005-11) as head coach, he led that NAIA program to its<br />

most successful season in school history, as USF won a school-record 10<br />

games and claimed its first win over an <strong>NC</strong>AA Football Championship Subdivision<br />

(FCS) team when it defeated Georgia State.<br />

- The Saints advanced to the NAIA Playoffs for the first time in 24 years and<br />

captured their first playoff victory.<br />

- Also posted seven-win seasons in 2008 and 2010 and turned in a 27-19 record<br />

over his last four seasons as head coach.<br />

At Waynesburg College:<br />

- Offense flourished establishing school records for rushing yards (2,315),<br />

total offense (4,579) and passing yards (2,592), winning the first conference<br />

title in school history and playing in the Division III national playoffs.<br />

College - A three-year starter at linebacker for the<br />

Wolfpack from 1998-00 and a member of the special<br />

teams unit during his collegiate playing days at<br />

<strong>NC</strong> State. Ended his career with his name in the record book for several categories,<br />

including career tackles for loss (33), single-season tackles for loss<br />

(16) and tackles in a single game (23). Was named <strong>NC</strong> State’s special teams<br />

MVP in 1997; Professional - Spent three seasons in the NFL, with the New<br />

York Giants from 2001-02 and with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from March<br />

to August of 2003. Played every special teams snap during the 2001 season<br />

with the Giants.<br />

EDUCATION:<br />

Earned a B.S. degree in sport management from <strong>NC</strong> State in 2001.<br />

PERSONAL DATA:<br />

Born in Dunn, N.C., on Dec. 2, 1977. He and his wife Kelly, have a son, Chase<br />

(4) and a daughter, Macy (2).<br />

Big East pick. He became just the second Husky to rush for more than 1,000<br />

yards in a freshman season.<br />

- On special teams, UConn was ranked 17th in the country in kickoff returns in<br />

2011. Punter Cole Wagner was named second team All-Big East Conference.<br />

At Western Kentucky:<br />

- Punt return team at ranked third in the Sun Belt Conference with 8.1 yards<br />

per return.<br />

- Helped coach the defense that led the Sun Belt in total yards allowed in conference<br />

games.<br />

At Stanford:<br />

- The Cardinal was ranked as high as 14th in the national polls, posting an 8-4<br />

regular season record in 2009.<br />

- Sun Bowl appearance marked the school’s first bowl game since 2001.<br />

At Western Michigan:<br />

- In 2006, ranked sixth in the country in kickoff return defense at 16 yards per<br />

return and 10th in the country in punt returns at 13.6.<br />

- The 2006 defense led the nation with 24 interceptions and 3.5 sacks per<br />

game, while ranking in a tie for second with 37 turnovers gained.<br />

JASON VELTKAMP<br />

Jason Veltkamp oversees all of the strength and conditioning<br />

efforts for Wolfpack football. The 18-year<br />

veteran came to <strong>NC</strong> State after spending five seasons<br />

in the same capacity at Arkansas. Veltkamp has<br />

worked with dozens of NFL draft picks in his career.<br />

Prior to arriving at Arkansas in 2008, Veltkamp spent four years (2004-<br />

07) as the head strength and conditioning coach for football at Louisville.<br />

From 2001-03, the Bozeman, Mont., native was the director of strength and<br />

conditioning at the University of Utah after working as an assistant from<br />

1999-2000.<br />

A graduate of Carroll College, Veltkamp was a four-year starter for Bob Petrino,<br />

Sr. He was a two-time all-conference performer in 1993 and 1994 and was<br />

also a team captain of the 1994 team. Veltkamp earned his master’s degree<br />

in exercise science from Utah State in 1998.<br />

Veltkamp’s wife, Kristen, attended physical therapy school at Duke, graduating<br />

in 1998. The couple has two sons, Caden (11) and Colton (8).<br />

COACHING HIGHLIGHTS:<br />

At <strong>NC</strong> State:<br />

- Coached the team’s leading tackler, Hakim Jones, in <strong>2014</strong>.<br />

At Connecticut:<br />

- Team tied for the national lead with three punt returns for TD, led the Big<br />

East with a 12.5 punt return average, a mark that ranked 18th nationally.<br />

- UConn tailback Lyle McCombs earned Freshman All-America honors from<br />

the Football Writers Association of America and was a second-team All-<br />
