COOKERY<br />

Demonstrator: Prabha Mistry £15, No Concessions<br />

Find out how to make a vegetarian recipes with<br />

an Indian flavour. A light ‘taster’ lunch will be<br />

served at the end of the session for which a small<br />

charge £2.00 will be made on the day for the<br />

food. The demonstration takes place in the<br />

kitchen at Rugby Methodist Church Centre,<br />

Russelheim Way.<br />

HEDGEROW MATERIALS<br />

Saturday 30 January 10.00 am – 4.00 pm<br />

Tutor: Margaret Cooper £24, £6<br />

Frame baskets have a simple construction, and<br />

woven with fresh willows and hedgerow woods,<br />

they make a colourful basket for displaying fruits<br />

or for using in the garden. You may bring flexible<br />

cuttings from the garden or hedgerow to weave<br />

into your basket. Please bring secateurs if you have<br />

them. Cost for materials £10.00 payable to the<br />

tutor on the day.<br />

603sp THE ART AND ARCHITECTURE OF<br />

MOORISH SPAIN<br />

Saturday 30 January 10.00 am – 4.00 pm<br />

Tutor: Richard Yeomans £24, £6<br />

The aim of this dayschool will be to examine the<br />

cultural impact of the Arabs in Spain and the<br />

legacy of that contribution in both Spain and the<br />

rest of Europe. It will examine some of the greatest<br />

architectural monuments, including the mosque at<br />

Cordoba, the Giraldo and Alcazar in Seville and the<br />

Alhambra Palace in Granada. Other building types<br />

will be covered as well as the legacy of Moorish<br />

architecture under Christian rule. The decorative<br />

arts will also be studied, and attention will be given<br />

to the intellectual contribution of the Arabs to<br />

philosophy, medicine, astronomy and mathematics,<br />

which in many respects made the subsequent<br />

European Renaissance possible.<br />

604sp ART AND TEXTILES IN THE<br />

20th CENTURY<br />

Saturday 30 January 10.00 am – 4.00 pm<br />

Tutor: Sheila Winterton £24, £6<br />

Artists such as William Morris, Matisse, Picasso,<br />

Henry Moore, Graham Sutherland and Eduardo<br />

Paolozzi all contributed to the world of textile<br />

design in the 20th century. We shall trace their<br />

influence on bringing affordable art into the lives<br />

of ordinary people through the medium of textiles.<br />

The day will be a series of lectures illustrated by<br />

images and, where possible, by samples of textiles.<br />

Students are encouraged to bring along any<br />

garments, textiles or accessories that reflect any<br />

decade of the century.<br />

605sp IMPROVE YOUR DIGITAL<br />

PHOTOGRAPHY<br />

Saturday 30 January 10.00 am – 4.00 pm<br />

Tutor: David Harding £24, £6<br />

The purpose of this day course is to help you<br />

improve your photography (irrespective of your<br />

camera), and to look at photos critically. Please<br />

bring a camera and some examples of your work.<br />

606sp MAKE A TIARA/HAIR ACCESSORY<br />

Saturday 30 January 10.00 am – 4.00 pm<br />

Tutor: Helen Dugdale £24, £6<br />

This class is suitable for all levels. Students will be<br />

shown techniques in how to use wire and crystals<br />

and can then choose to make either a Dazzling<br />

Tiara or a Decorative Hair Comb. The class should<br />

provide them with the basic skills to continue<br />

making many more to come. Beads, crystals, wire,<br />

hair fittings are available to purchase in class at a<br />

cost of approximately £10. Alternatively students<br />

can bring their own materials. Students will need<br />

to bring a pair of pliers and wire cutters, there are<br />

also some available for general use on the day.<br />
