COOKERY
Wednesday 27 January 10.00 am – 1.00 pm
Demonstrator: Prabha Mistry £15, No Concessions
Find out how to make a vegetarian recipes with
an Indian flavour. A light ‘taster’ lunch will be
served at the end of the session for which a small
charge £2.00 will be made on the day for the
food. The demonstration takes place in the
kitchen at Rugby Methodist Church Centre,
Russelheim Way.

HEDGEROW MATERIALS
Saturday 30 January 10.00 am – 4.00 pm
Tutor: Margaret Cooper £24, £6
Frame baskets have a simple construction, and
woven with fresh willows and hedgerow woods,
they make a colourful basket for displaying fruits
or for using in the garden. You may bring flexible
cuttings from the garden or hedgerow to weave
into your basket. Please bring secateurs if you have
them. Cost for materials £10.00 payable to the
tutor on the day.
603sp THE ART AND ARCHITECTURE OF
MOORISH SPAIN
Saturday 30 January 10.00 am – 4.00 pm
Tutor: Richard Yeomans £24, £6
The aim of this dayschool will be to examine the
cultural impact of the Arabs in Spain and the
legacy of that contribution in both Spain and the
rest of Europe. It will examine some of the greatest
architectural monuments, including the mosque at
Cordoba, the Giraldo and Alcazar in Seville and the
Alhambra Palace in Granada. Other building types
will be covered as well as the legacy of Moorish
architecture under Christian rule. The decorative
arts will also be studied, and attention will be given
to the intellectual contribution of the Arabs to
philosophy, medicine, astronomy and mathematics,
which in many respects made the subsequent
European Renaissance possible.
604sp ART AND TEXTILES IN THE
20th CENTURY
Saturday 30 January 10.00 am – 4.00 pm
Tutor: Sheila Winterton £24, £6
Artists such as William Morris, Matisse, Picasso,
Henry Moore, Graham Sutherland and Eduardo
Paolozzi all contributed to the world of textile
design in the 20th century. We shall trace their
influence on bringing affordable art into the lives
of ordinary people through the medium of textiles.
The day will be a series of lectures illustrated by
images and, where possible, by samples of textiles.
Students are encouraged to bring along any
garments, textiles or accessories that reflect any
decade of the century.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Tutor: David Harding £24, £6
The purpose of this day course is to help you
improve your photography (irrespective of your
camera), and to look at photos critically. Please
bring a camera and some examples of your work.
606sp MAKE A TIARA/HAIR ACCESSORY
Saturday 30 January 10.00 am – 4.00 pm
Tutor: Helen Dugdale £24, £6
This class is suitable for all levels. Students will be
shown techniques in how to use wire and crystals
and can then choose to make either a Dazzling
Tiara or a Decorative Hair Comb. The class should
provide them with the basic skills to continue
making many more to come. Beads, crystals, wire,
hair fittings are available to purchase in class at a
cost of approximately £10. Alternatively students
can bring their own materials. Students will need
to bring a pair of pliers and wire cutters, there are
also some available for general use on the day.
