Championships 2015
The 2015 Surrey Championships
was once again a very successful
event, but was again disrupted by
the British weather. Many thanks
to Sutton Tennis Academy for their
generous assistance in making
additional indoor courts available
to us so we were able to play every
event to a conclusion.
The weather apart, we saw some
fantastic tennis - the Boys 8U Final
in particular, between Ronnie
Hickling and Jesse Clarkson, was a
thrilling match. Both boys showed
great shot making skills, using
spin and angles, with well thought
out points.
For the first time we ran
a 14U Girls Doubles and a
Women’s Open Doubles event.
Congratulations to those players
who got these events into the
schedule and I hope we can
persuade more players to enter
next year.
We again offered qualifying
draws at all yellow ball age groups,
18U Girls Winner Eloise Saraty
which proved popular, and will
continue to do so in future years
as this allows players of all levels
of experience to take part in ‘their’
County Championships.
Also featured was the Quorn
Family Tennis Cup Yellow Ball
competition, which is an informal,
fun family event. This was won by
Andy and David Middleton from
Purley Tennis Club, who went on
to play in the Regional finals and
qualify for the National Finals at
the National Tennis Centre where
they came seventh out of sixteen
16U Boys Winner Dan Siddall
pairs. Many congratulations to
them both!
Congratulations to all the
players who took part. I hope
they enjoyed the tournament as
much as I did and I look forward
to seeing them again next August.

Fuchs of Tennis Services UK for
ensuring a smooth and successful
tournament for all.
