Road to Wimbledon Club and
County Stages
This year saw a great number
of entries from Surrey venues
into the Road to Wimbledon
Competition. Once the venue
stage of the competition had
been completed, we had over 150
players taking part in our County
Finals Stage, this took place over
4 weekends at Sutton Tennis
Academy and St George’s College
in Weybridge, where Referee Mike
Pinnegar once again did a fantastic
job in running a great event. It was
a busy few weeks, with some great
tennis on display, but eventually
we were left with two players, who
won the Boys and Girls Events
respectively.
Road to Wimbledon Regional
Finals, Surrey representatives:
Carl-Jamie Bashiri and Leah
Gonzales-Edwards
Our County Stage Winners were
in action at Wimbledon during
August. Carl-Jamie was runner-up
of the Boys Consolation and won
the Boys Doubles. Leah also did
fantastically as she reached the
quarter finals of the Girls Main
draw and was victorious in the
girls doubles. Results can be found
on the HSBC Road to Wimbledon
website.
Road to Wimbledon continues
to be a flagship event in the Tennis
Surrey calendar and we hope that
in years to come it remains one
of our most popular events, and
provide those few lucky players
with an opportunity to play at
Wimbledon itself.
A big thank you must go to all
Surrey volunteers who supported
the event throughout; it makes a
big difference in adding value and
prestige to the competition.
