Aegon Team Tennis
Aegon Team Tennis Surrey was
once again a huge success with
582 teams taking part, who were
from 94 clubs from around Surrey.
Huge congratulations must go
to all the clubs that won their
respective divisions in the County
Tier of the competition.
A particular mention goes to
Southwark Tennis Club 10U Team
who won 46 out of 48 rubbers
and put in some impressive
performances to win Division 2H in
the 10U Boys category. This resulted
in them winning Aegon Team of
the year Division 2 onwards at our
Surrey Junior Awards.
Aegon Team Tennis is a
nationwide competition, and
some of Surrey’s top teams will
take part in the Premier Divisions.
Sutton Tennis Academy’s 12U
Boys Team made a great run to
the final, winning their regional
group and beating some very
strong teams along the way.
Although they lost out in the
Grand Final to Northumberland
on a shootout, their performance
throughout the competition
was exceptional and led to them
winning Aegon Team of the year
Premier and Division 1 at the
Surrey Junior Awards. Wilton
Tennis Club, a four court venue in
South West London, were the No.2
seeds and successfully navigated
their way past strong competition
to capture the National Title.
Team Manager Terry Oakes: “I
am so proud of a group of young
ladies who displayed phenomenal
skill, determination and, above all,
team spirit. I should also like to
commend all at Holcombe Brook
for their graciousness and their
part in what was a magnificent
advert for the concept of Team
Tennis.”
As well as providing lots of
matches for our players, we also
encourage the competition to
be played in good spirit so that
players enjoy the experience and
team environment that they are
a part of. It was great to receive
feedback from clubs about how
they were made to feel welcome
at matches by their opponents.
Hopefully it will lead to these
players and parents/organisers
being involved in tennis much
more. One club we felt were
especially worthy of the Aegon
Team Tennis Hospitality Club of
the year award was Brightwell LTC.
Many congratulations to them.
We hope that Aegon Team
Tennis Surrey can go from
strength to strength in the years
to come.
