POSSIBLE INFLUENCE OF LIMESTONE ON LANDSLIDES
ABSTRACT
Causes of Earth's crust soil displacement is very complex with an extremely large number of
influencing factors.
This work discusses one of the possible influences on landslides limestone surfaces.
Huge problem nowadays are acid rains. Acid rain appears as a consequence of increasing air
pollution, due to rapid development of industries, traffic and urbanization, since increased
amount of harmful gases is releasing into the atmosphere. Oxides of carbon, sulfur and
nitrogen are dissolved in humid atmosphere, and “fall” on Earth as acid rain. The impact of
acid rains is multiple and considerably harmful. This harmful effect is manifested on land,
water, wildlife, buildings and of course human health.
Since the natural rainwater is slightly acidic, by dissolving oxides of non-metals in the water,
pH of created acid is several units decreased. The acid dissolves calcium from the soil, rinse
important mineral substances like magnesium and potassium, dissolved aluminum and heavy
metals contained in the soil. This result in porosity of land, damaging plant roots, reducing the
pH value of water and extinction of plant and animal species
The increased concentration of hydrogen ions in rainwater causes increased decomposition of
rocks, which means that it speeds up the friability. In a similar way, sand collapses as well.
No matter that acid rains are a natural occurrence, their effect is largely increased due to
human activity, unconscious action.
Nature respond on different ways if natural ratio of content of the atmosphere above the
ground was disturbed.
KEY WORDS: landslides, acid rain, landslides initiators, chemical decomposition of
rocks
1. UVOD
u atmosferu iz dimnjaka fabrika, termoelektrana, kunih ložišta i izduvnih cijevi motornih
vozila svakodnevno ispuštaju na hiljade tona izduvnih gasova i estica. Oksidi sumpora i
azota uzrokuju odreene hemijske reakcije, pa kao sulfati i nitrati mokrim (kisele kiše) i
suvim taloženjem dolaze do tla.
najbolje pokazuje 2500 godina star Partenon u Atini. Na toj graevini primeeni su znaci
bržeg propadanja u ovom vijeku, što je naravno, posljedica veeg oneišenja u tom dijelu
Evrope.
