The hopes of Timaukel:
PAMPA GUANACO:
AT THE SOUTH END OF TIERRA DEL FUEGO
A decade from now, total conectivity will be
achieved in Tierra del Fuego, when the road
from Lake Fagnano, south into Yendegaia
Bay, on the shores of the Beagle Canal,
is finished.
And this area belongs to Timaukel, whose
city council decided to move its administration
from villa Cameron, to the area of Pampa
Guanaco, located roughly a hundred miles
south of Porvenir, capital city of the Tierra
del Fuego province.
Alfonso Simunovic, mayor of Timaukel, has
promoted through the press the resolution
to reactivate an older project, and use 40
acres that belong to the council in Pampa
Guanaco.
There, over a year ago, the first twelve house
were built, destined for public workers, as
well as council offices. Near this location, one
can find the route south to lake Fagnano, the
police post, the small airport and rural school.
Timaukel’s population does not exceed 500
people, distributed among the 13 thousand
square kilometers of land, mainly used for
ganado.
The council is looking to revert the low
population situation, giving incentives to
new inhabitants with the energy to take
upon new projects related to logistics and
tourism services.
For this, during 2015 the work centered on
defining a sectional plan for the hundred
pieces of land the council will offer to whoever
is interested in growing permanent roots in
Pampa Guanaco.
Simunovic dream that in a near future, in
the newborn villa the visitor will find hostels,
shops, cafés, service stores, gas supply
and restaurants. All of this, to generate the
context on which a growing touristic force
can develop in this southernmost corner
of the world.
