6.1 N AT I O N A L I N S T I T U T E O F<br />

AYURVEDA, JAIPUR<br />

6.1.1 INTRODUCTION<br />

The National Institute of Ayurveda<br />

was established on 7-2-1976 by the<br />

Government of India as premier<br />

Institute of Ayurveda in the country<br />

to develop high standards of<br />

teaching, training and research in all<br />

aspects of Ayurvedic System of<br />

Medicine with a scientific approach.<br />

The Institute is engaged in Teaching,<br />

Clinical and Research at Under-<br />

Graduate, Post-Graduate and Ph.D.<br />

level and is affiliated to Dr.<br />

Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Rajasthan<br />

Ayurved University, Jodhpur for<br />

A c a d e m i c a n d E x a m i n a t i o n<br />

purposes and follows the Syllabus<br />

and Curriculum prescribed by the<br />

Central Council of Indian Medicine<br />

as adopted by the University.<br />

The Institute has a Governing Body<br />

consisting of 16 Members and<br />

presided over by Hon’ble Union<br />

Minister of State (Independent<br />

Charge), Ministry of AYUSH. There<br />

is a Standing Finance Committee<br />

Chaired by Joint Secretary, Ministry<br />

of AYUSH, Government of India.<br />

There is also an Institutional Ethics<br />

Committee to govern, regulate and<br />

review various research proposals<br />

in the Institute. This is constituted<br />

on the Guidelines stipulated by<br />

ICMR in its Ethical guidelines for<br />

Biomedical Research on Human<br />

Subjects.<br />

6.1.2 TEACHING ACTIVITIES:<br />

The Institute is conducting Under-<br />

Graduate Course of BAMS with 92<br />

Seats. For Post-Graduation, it has<br />

14 Specialties viz. Kayachikitsa,<br />

D r a v y a G u n a V i g y a n a ,<br />

Kaumarbhritya, Panchakarma, Rasa<br />

Shastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana,<br />

Roga & Vikriti Vigyan, Maulik<br />

Siddhanta (Samhita), Shalya Tantra,<br />

Sharir Kriya, Sharir Rachana,<br />

Swastha Vritta, Shalakya Tantra,<br />

Prasuti-Stri Roga and Agad Tantra<br />

for the Post-Graduate Course of<br />

"Ayurveda Vachaspati"/”Ayurved<br />

Dhanwantari” (MD/MS Ayurveda)<br />

with 104 Seats spread over in the<br />

these subjects and all the 14 subjects<br />

are also available for Regular<br />

Fellowship Programs leading to<br />

Ph.D.(Ay.) with 2 seats each. The<br />

Institute also conducts a Diploma<br />

Course in Ayurveda Nursing and<br />

Pharmacy of 2 ½ years duration<br />

with an annual intake capacity of 30<br />

seats. Reservation to SC(<strong>15</strong>%),<br />

ST(7½%), OBC(27%), PH(3%) is<br />

also available for UG, PG and<br />

Diploma Courses.<br />

The Institute has 3 Seats available in<br />

PG Course for candidates from<br />
