Le targhette sulle porte portano
i nomi-marchio di 4 differenti
capolavori dello yachting Riva:
Aquarama, Rivale, Athena, SportRiva e
il logo del famoso cantiere di Sarnico (si
veda anche Arte Navale 62) è ovunque
nelle 4 spaziose suite del nuovo albergo
affacciato sul lago d’Iseo. Il Cocca Hotel
Royal Thai Spa è a poche centinaia di
metri dai capannoni Riva (oggi gruppo
Ferretti), ma il legame tra l’uno e l’altro
non è solo la breve linea di costa che li
separa. Il gioco di rimandi tra le stanze
intestate di un albergo e uno dei nomi più
importanti del Made in Italy nel mondo è
più complesso e profondo.
Le 4 suite sono infatti non una copia, ma
l’essenza delle cabine amatoriali degli
yacht di cui hanno preso il nome. “Sono
soprattutto suite di lusso con tutti i confort
che questo comporta (comprese le
Jacuzzi a 2 o 3 posti)”, ci spiega Maurizio
Marini, uno dei proprietari del Cocca
Hotel e nostro anfitrione. “La loro vicinanza
al mondo Riva è più sottile e profonda.
Ha più a che fare con la suggestione,
l’emozione, il senso di appartenenza
a uno stile”.
Il progetto delle suite, seguito direttamente
dai designer del cantiere, voleva
raccontare la storia di Riva attraverso
lo stile di 4 modelli, grazie anche all’uso
delle stesse essenze e gli stessi tessuti che
sono presenti negli arredamenti degli
yacht. Gli arredi parlano dell’eleganza
rigorosa delle imbarcazioni Riva, della
purezza delle forme e della nobilità dei
materiali usati. Le linee geometriche
pulite sono enfatizzate dai contrasti cromatici
dei materiali. Claudio Colombo,
della Colombo Yacht di Cesano Maderno
ha coordinato la sua equipe con quella di
Cristino Bettoni di Tappezzeria Nautica
e Massimo Mulattieri di Mulattieri
Creation per riprodurre l’atmosfera che
si respira sui motoscafi. Non sono solo
i materiali e i colori a essere gli stessi.
Le rifiniture e persino la metodologia
La suite del Cocca Hotel di Sarnico
dedicata al mitico Aquarama
disegnato da Giorgio Barilani e
Carlo Riva. Fabia Giacomini, interior
designer per Riva ha voluto qui creare
un ambiente moderno e luminoso
che comunica lo stile senza tempo
di Riva e parla della sua tradizione
attraverso la reinterpretazione
dei suoi materiali più significativi.
The suite of the Cocca Hotel in Sarnico
dedicated to the legendary Aquarama

Carlo Riva. Fabia Giacomini, interior
designer for Riva, wanted to create a
modern and luminous environment
here that communicates the timeless
Riva style and also reflects its tradition
through the reinterpretation of its
most significant materials.
The plaques on the doors bear
the brand-names of 4 different
masterpieces of Riva yachting:
Aquarama, Rivale, Athena, SportRiva
and the logo of the famous boatyard in
Sarnico (see also Arte Navale 62) is
everywhere in the 4 spacious suites of the
new hotel looking on to Lake Iseo. The
Cocca Hotel Royal Thai Spa is just a few
hundred yards from the Riva sheds (today
the Ferretti group), but the connection
between them is not only the short stretch
of coastline that separates them. The links
between the names of rooms in a hotel and
one of the most famous names of Italian
quality craftsmanship and industry in the
world is more complex and deeper.
The 4 suites are not a copy but the very
essence of the owners’ cabins of the yachts
they are named for. “They are above all
luxury suites with all the comfort that
you can expect from these (including
the Jacuzzis for two or three people),”
Maurizio Marini, one of the owners of
the Cocca Hotel and our host, explains.
“Their close bond with the Riva world is
subtler and deeper. It has more to do with
evocation, emotion and a sense of belonging
to a style.”
The design of the suites, directly followed
by the boatyard designers, wanted to tell the
story of Riva through the style of 4 models
also thanks to the use of the same essences
and the same fabrics as in the yachts. The
furnishing speaks of the sober elegance
of the Riva boats, of the purity of shapes
and the nobility of the materials used.
The clean geometric lines are emphasized
by the chromatic contrasts of the materials.
Claudio Colombo of the Colombo
Yacht of Cesano Maderno coordinated
his team with that of Cristino Bettoni
of Tappezzeria Nautica and Massimo
Mulattieri of Mulattieri Creation to reproduce
the atmosphere of the motorboats. It
is not only the materials and the colors
that are the same. The finishes and even
the assembly methodology was that used
on the yachts: light oak for Rivale, warmer
for Sport Riva, walnut for Athena,
mahogany for Aquarama. The walls are

La suite più grande è ispirata ad Athena 115. Gli arredi parlano dell’eleganza rigorosa
della ammiraglia della flotta Riva, della purezza delle sue forme e della esclusività dei
suoi materiali. Le linee geometriche e pulite sono enfatizzate dai contrasti cromatici dei
materiali: il noce canaletto, il cuoio, il testa di moro, le pelli avorio, l’acciaio lucido, gli

The largest suite is inspired by Athena 115. The furnishings reflect the rigorous elegance of
the flagship of the Riva fleet, the purity of its lines and the exclusivity of its materials.
The uncluttered geometric lines are emphasized by the contrasting colors
of the materials: black walnut, chocolate brown and ivory leathers, polished steel, mirrors

di montaggio è stata quella usata sugli
yacht: rovere chiaro per Rivale, più caldo
per Sport Riva, noce per Athena, mogano
per Aquarama. Le pareti sono nascoste
dietro pannelli, l’illuminazione viene da
faretti a led. Tutto converge a farci sentire
in un ambiente che ha a che fare con lo
yachting di prestigio.
“Un gioco di rimandi costoso”, sottolinea
Maurizio Marini, proprietario con il
fratello Mario Battista del Cocca Hotel
Royal Thai Spa. “Noi famiglia Marini,
per molti anni siamo stati fotografi ufficiali
della azienda Riva”, ci spiega.
“Senza questo rapporto sarebbe stato
ben difficile raggiungere l’intesa per l’uso
di marchi tanto pregevoli”. L’idea è quella
di offrire ai prestigiosi clienti del cantieconcealed

“Without this relationship it would have
been much more difficult to reach agreement
on using such fine brands.” The
idea is to offer the prestigious clients of
the Riva boatyard something more than a
hotel with clean lines, impeccable accommodation
and numerous services (Italian
and Thai restaurants, a wellness centre, a

e Riva qualcosa di più di un hotel dalle
linee pulite, dalla ricettività impeccabile
e dai numerosi servizi (ristoranti italiano
e thailandese, centro wellness, piscina
coperta, riscaldata e climatizzata di 18
metri, garage coperto e video sorvegliato
etc.). “Consentiamo loro di dormire in
stanze che regalano tutta la suggestione
delle cabine degli yacht di cui stanno
diventando armatori. Uno spazio pieno di
emozione dove concludere affari che, come
ben sa chi possiede una barca, prima
di tutto si fanno con il cuore”.
“Non c’è nulla di facile e niente di difficile
bisogna soltanto saperlo fare”, recita il
motto dei fratelli Marini, raccolto qundo
erano bambini da un circense cui avevano
chiesto se poi fosse così complicato avere
a che fare con animali feroci, trapezi
e acrobazie “Abbiamo sempre pensato
che, se volevamo una cosa, dovevamo

“We let them sleep is rooms that give all
the atmosphere of the yachts they are about
to own. A space full of emotion where to do

“There is nothing easy and nothing difficult,
you just have to know how to do
it,” is their motto, which they picked up
as children from a circus performer they
had asked whether it was very complicated
to work with wild animals, trapezes and
acrobatics. “They have always thought
that if they wanted something they simply
had to learn the art of doing it.” What
they wanted for their 4-star hotel was:
”a structure that perfected the sound of
silence”, that was technologically innovative,
ecologically sustainable and met the
real needs of the area, and it was built

No accessory is there by chance.
semplicemente imparare l’arte per farla”.
Per il loro albergo a 4 stelle volevano una
struttura che “perfezionasse il rumore
del silenzio”, che fosse tecnologicamente
innovativa, ecologicamente sostenibile e
rispondesse alle esigenze reali della zona,
e con queste priorità il Cocca Hotel è
stato realizzato. I pannelli solari sul tetto
producono 113 chilowatt di energia, gli
infissi e le pareti hanno un grado di coibentazione
tale da rendere superfluo persino
il riscaldamento in inverno e l’aria
condizionata in estate, e le ceramiche
“oxigena” in gres porcellanato producono
ossigeno a contatto con l’anidride carbonica
sterilizzando le superfici.
“Ci siamo chiesti chi potrebbe desiderare
di soggiornare in albergo a Sarnico”,
precisano i fratelli Marini, “e abbiamo
realizzato un hotel per chi vuole trascorrere
un week end sul lago, per chi vuole
un luogo piacevole per i suoi meeting di
lavoro, per i turisti di passaggio e i viaggiatori
per business".
Il panorama, in effetti, è di quelli da
togliere il fiato. L’hotel, realizzato tra il
1995 e il 2008 anche grazie alla legge regiowith

The panorama is breathtaking. The hotel,
built between 1995 and 2008, thanks also
to the regional law on tourism, is just a
few yards from the shore on the other side
of the road: 66 rooms that look on to the
lake, nestling against the hills. Marini
followed the building step by step, hiring
and firing architects, even reviewing the
calculations of the engineers, but above all
innovating with the genius of the outsider

nale sul turismo, è a pochi metri della riva
subito al di là della strada: 66 stanze che
guardano il lago, appoggiate alla collina.
I Marini ne hanno seguito la realizzazione
punto per punto, assumendo e licenziando
architetti, ridisegnando esterni e interni,
rivedendo persino i conti degli ingegneri,
ma soprattutto innovando con la genialità
dell’outsider i canoni della hotellierie
e favorendo una architettura pulita, minimalista,
efficace e funzionale, dall’eleganza
sofisticata. Un ambiente dove star
bene: l’albergo è infatti attrezzato con
una piscina interna coperta riscaldata e
climatizzata, un’area sensoriale con idromassaggio,
saune, bagni turchi e docce
cromo-terapiche. Dulcis in fundo una Spa
con terapisti thailandesi provenienti dalle
scuole più prestigiose di Bangkok.
In questo quadro mancano ancora alcune
pennellate che i fratelli Marini si apprestano
a dare. Come il lungolago trasformato
in un parco verde completo di pista
ciclabile e un molo a T dove gli ospiti del
ristorante potranno ormeggiare le loro
vele e i loro motoscafi. Magari Riva...

a T-pier where the restaurant guests can
moor their yachts and motorboats. And
they could well be Rivas.
