vintage materials are used, no two are

From across the vast Pacific ocean, 

Dollmasters presents a series of 

traditional wooden Japanese play 

dolls known as Kokeshi. Although 

new to our catalog, the kokeshi 

doll tradition is centuries-old in 

Japan. The carved wooden dolls 

seem initially simplistic in design, 

but closer examination reveals 

incredibly detailed carving such as 

hair accents and ruffles in clothing. 

Most of the Kokeshi dolls are 

produced from Japanese dogwood 

trees, well known for their white 

bark and fine grain. All carving 

and painting is hand-done by 

experienced artisans.

Once in a blue moon, St. Nicholas hitched a ride. 

Hand-carved and painted in Russia in the centuries 

old tradition, St. Nicholas wears a superb costume 

with richly gilded chip carving to simulate fur, and 

gilt and "jewel" trimmed jacket. He holds a classic 

Russian scepter with pearl and bead ornaments in 

his blue-gloved hand. Angelic children decorate the 

serene moon slice, and the entire arrangement is 

posed upon a wintry village scene. So fine is this 

piece that the carving and painting extend entirely

paper-mache figures, has brought her unique 

aesthetic to this set of six blown glass Christmas 

ornaments. Many of them are molded after

is designed by Debbee Thibault herself and

The Brownie Band 

A Brownie Indian, 

I am known 

With tomahawk

Utilizing the Scottish highland folktales of his 

maternal ancestory, a then unknown Canadian 

artist named Palmer Cox created a group of 

playful sprites known as the Brownies and he 

introduced them to the world in February of 1883 

in a children's periodical, St. Nicholas Magazine. 

Like the greats, Rose O'Neill and Johnny Gruelle, 

Palmer Cox filled his world with a wide array of 

fanciful characters, and like those greats, Palmer 

Cox now finds his works immortalized by the 

contemporary great R John Wright. 

Each Brownie is an entirely hand-made wool-felt 

doll from R John Wright and each is specially 

designed with heavy-wire feet to stand unaided.
