ABOUT CCCVI In 2012 the Certification Board of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (CBCCT) and the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology (CBNC) announced the formation of the Council for Certification in CardioVascular Imaging (CCCVI), with CBCCT and CBNC organized as divisions within the CCCVI structure. The Council’s launch was the result of more than three years’ effort and signified a momentous step forward in support of the existing programs and in furtherance of multimodality certification. Using the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) as its model, the CBCCT and CBNC divisions continue to function autonomously within their respective areas as they develop and administer the practice-related examinations and programs. The CCCVI’s mission to enhance the quality of patient care through individual and multi-modality cardiovascular imaging certification of physicians responds to the changes emerging in advanced cardiovascular imaging technologies. The joining of the boards and the formation of the CCCVI provides support for the respected and recognized certification testing programs by removing general administration from the divisions. The Council is working to provide greater value to Diplomates and Candidates with the introduction of processes and procedures to assist cardiovascular imaging practitioners. Diplomates of CBCCT and CBNC have the capability to document multiple certifications in a centralized online site and to communicate with a single office on questions or other information. Candidates from both programs can take advantage of the simplified online application processes and a preliminary discount for those certifying in both modalities. CBNC and CBCCT Candidates and Diplomates can look forward to reduced fees and delivery of a suite of enhancements to their online accounts as the boards further integrate. The CCCVI, through representation on the CBCCT and CBNC division boards, is partnered and supported by the ACC, ASNC, SCAI and SCCT. There are more than 9,200 current nuclear cardiology Diplomates in over 50 countries; greater than 10,200 individual certifications have been granted since 1996. Over 2,300 physicians have certified in cardiovascular CT across more than 40 countries. More than 1,300 physicians are certified in both cardiovascular computed tomography and nuclear cardiology and the numbers continue to grow. ABOUT CBNC The Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology (CBNC) was established in 1996 to develop and administer practice-related examinations in the field of Nuclear Cardiology and to award certification to those physicians who successfully complete the CBNC examination process. The mission of the CBNC is to support optimal patient care and enhancement of the field through a certification program that promotes quality, professionalism and practice-based learning and improvement. CBNC is a division of the Council for Certification in Cardiovascular Imaging. The Purpose of Certification The Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology (CBNC) is committed to the certification of Nuclear Cardiology practitioners. Certification provides practice-based requirements against which members of the profession can be assessed. The purposes of the CBNC Certification Program are as follows: • to establish the domain of the practice of Nuclear Cardiology for certification; • to assess the level of knowledge demonstrated by Nuclear Cardiology specialists in a valid manner; • to encourage professional growth in, and enhance the quality of, the practice of Nuclear Cardiology; • to recognize formally individuals who meet the requirements set by CBNC; and • to serve the public by encouraging quality patient care in the practice of Nuclear Cardiology. Candidates must pass a practice-based exam developed by experts in the field in concert with psychometric and test development experts. The exam is based on a substantial review and analysis of the current state of medical and scientific knowledge of nuclear cardiology as reflected in the medical literature and clinical practice. The exam is designed to comply with testing industry standards. CBNC will issue a certificate to successful Candidates who then may present themselves to the public as specialists in the field of Nuclear Cardiology. Successful Candidates may designate on letterhead, cards, etc. that they are “Diplomates of the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology”.
